I never thought we'd get to the point where late 90s/early-mid 00s Maconaquah football would derail a thread, yet here we are.
I've never been more proud.
The Otto Brothers (and their dad/uncle) would probably be considered one of the first families of Maconaquah sports, up there with Betzners, Maples, and Hevezis.

Just going to throw Phil Garnett out with the trash?
I think even PG4 would concede that! Now combo football/basketball/track/golf manager? Nobody will ever touch Phil in that regard...

But it's not about wins and losses, but that you got to play the game. Right?
Go Braves. That Josiah Ball is a heckuva shooter.
Braves Basketball is back, baby. I was at a boys/girls DH against Lewis Cass a few weeks ago and the place was full. Seating has been reduced a bit with some renovations over the last few years, but there were close to 3k in attendance that night. Felt like being in there in the mid/late 90s as a kid again.
Josiah Ball may end up being the best player to come out of 256 E 800 S since Corey Burns in the late 90s. Probably has a higher upside than him, too.

Keep 9 games.
Take the top 32 teams in all classes, split it N/S and seed them. The rest get put into regional pods and based on their record/Sagarin/whatever get a 10th game against an evenly matched opponent. That becomes their "bowl game."
You want to talk about equity for the athletes--a system like this gives probably twice as many young men a chance to end their career with a win as opposed to losing by six scores in the opening round of the Sectional.

ADM?? Sorry, I am not familiar with that acronym ?? Care to explain??
Is the "migrant worker population" no longer around the area with their children, or did they move to another district??
ADM = Average Daily Membership.
Fancy DOE jargon for the student count.

My inside source tells me the buyout is all the Terra Villa pasta and garlic bread he can eat for the remainder of the contract length and 10 meatball calzones from Gerries.
@Donnie Baker the best pizza in west central Indiana is Overpass Pizza. The thin crust is ambrosia. We should eat there sometime!

Manchester shocks the world on Friday night!
Last TRC team left in the tournament!

I am with you on this, several years ago I think it was Casey Kolkman who was the head coach and there was mutual respect between the programs and some great games. Recently, the sham show going on has ruined it. It starts with coaching. I know there are many officials on this site that could add to how bad it really is when they do their games, but they have refrained from doing so. Kudos to them
Unfortunately it’s not just a football issue. Their basketball program is equally undisciplined.
-
I think Rochester wins, but my hope is that they not only win, but humiliate that program who thought they were all of a sudden too good for the TRC.

How’d scrimmages go? Manchester is not very good!
Lol no, we aren’t. I was pretty impressed with Triton. We’ve got a lot of rebuilding to do at Manchester.

Madison-Grant? Oak Hill?
Oak Hill had a caveat that the entire Grant 4 get an invite. Sort of a tough ask, but totally get them wanting to stick with their county cohort.
Eastern was a name I’d also heard. Not sure how far down the road that went, but certainly would be desirable if you’re one of the southern TRC schools.
Maybe adding Eastern is enough to entice Oak Hill?? Eastern left the MIC due to wanting to be a big fish. I think their athletic programs would compete in the TRC, but maybe not at the championship caliber they’ve become accustomed to in the HHC.

IIRC Lewis Cass had this stupid bell at one end of their football field they would ring incessantly every time they scored. Is that still there? Also during my playing days their visitor locker room was this dank, dark, hole underneath the home bleachers. It was like something out of a bad horror film.
As a player, I got to witness them ring it twice…

I am glad the adults and professional educators are focused on doing what is best for the youth of Indiana.
Do you mean professional educators like the Valley administrators who were intent on not upholding the bylaws to which they had signed and agreed?
Should the Valley professional educators have handled this in a way that didn’t have any negative implications on their student athletes? Or is it the job of the rest of the schools in the conference to do what is best for the Valley student athletes?

Does the TRC have an All Sports trophy? Is there a comprehensive record somewhere of where each Valley Team finished in the TRC last year and in the years prior? Be interesting to see how they compared to the rest of the TRC in all sports.
Also, I've heard that some of the frustration for the former NIC schools was lower level games being cancelled over and over again by certain other league teams. I wonder if Valley ran into any of that in the TRC?
I'll look into your first question, but in regard to your second I think that answer would be a resounding NO. The RRC (the middle level version of the TRC, in which all schools participate) does a really good job in terms of scheduling. There may be a few programs with low numbers...but for the most part teams are fielding full teams in all of the main sports.

People forget that these decisions are made by schools for their overall athletic department, not just one or two programs.
Unless you’re Tippy Valley. They made this decision solely on what they believe is best for their football program. It’s high times right now in Death Valley, but only 5-8 years ago, they were stringing together 2-4 win campaigns. They just view themselves (for some reason) as a class above the TRC schools. Valley arrogance.

I saw what you did there! Pretty clever. I have heard the same rumor...have also heard that he backed out.
Dang. I would’ve liked to see that come to fruition.

I’ve heard Manchester has 15 applicants. Quite a bit of interest.
Whitko hired Brad Sprunger—the third Sprunger to coach the Cats.
I have heard a name at Southwood. Can’t officially confirm it, but it would be an absolutely sick hire, Mark my words.

I would see the TRC poaching teams from the HNAC before I see the HNAC taking teams from the TRC.
-
Does the TRC look to add one? I would think so. Some fits:
Cass? Pioneer? Winamac? Caston?
I think Cass is definitely the most attractive, followed by Pioneer.
-
Rochester seems like a logical fit.
Honestly, I'm shocked that Valley is leaving the TRC.
Fairfield to Knox is probably at least an hour and a half or so and a time change. Wawasee probably at least as far as Fairfield.

MSD (Southwood and Northfield) don’t want to take on Wabash City’s debt. And legally I don’t think they can due to the structure of the Wabash City Schools.

Everybody should want to attend Carmel High School, right?: https://www.indystar.com/story/news/local/hamilton-county/carmel/2023/02/13/carmel-high-school-students-tiktok-videos-natatorium-stadium-auditorium-studios-auto-shop/69899563007/
BTW, the middle school at my little 'ole podunk rural school corporation had a working planetarium when I attended it. Seemed pretty cool at the time. I hear it's closed now, the room repurposed for something else.
It was a computer lab and more recently a Study Hall room.
-
Why would the ACAC want to add Blackhawk? Sure, it’s a fit from Blackhawk’s perspective, but I don’t see the benefit for the other conference schools in sports besides football.

I always liked Howard Kellman on WHMB.

East Noble has an Assistant AD--Brandon Durnell, the varsity basketball coach. They also have an athletic secretary.
They probably could have allowed Amstutz to continue to serve in both roles if that was desired at the corporation level.
