Georgia did a test run of their new replay rules during the preseason kickoff games at Mercedes Benz stadium. The new rules will be in effect for state championship games this fall. Here is an article about the new rules.

I know there are certain high school state athletic associations who have barred their teams from playing schools like IMG for this exact purpose, Georgia specifically. I think Texas in another. x
Georgia banned all schools from playing IMG several years ago.

How are they supposed to stop anyone with only 8 guys on defense!
We have trouble stopping people with 12 or 13 on Defense!
It is a significantly smaller field.

The more schools, the merrier. I'm hoping (against hope) that Barr-Reeve will start fielding a team. They have some great athletes in that section of Daviess County.
Maybe if the IHSAA approves 8 man football we will see quite a few new teams.

It looks like Boonville and Mt Vernon may have PAC top dogs like GS, HH, and Southridge looking over their shoulders. This should be interesting. Also Tell City may enter into this conversation.

Nice video run down of SIAC contests.

All the tribes that lived in the Lafayette area had at one point attacked and slaughtered the tribes that were there before them. Warfare was endemic among Native American Tribes. So we should remove all tribal names from all places right?

Wood Memorial suspended football a couple of years ago after a hazing incident. They also suffered from low numbers. Has there been any talk about restarting the program?

Rogues, Rascals, or Rowdies.

How about how long does it normally take the IHSAA to evaluate proposals like this?

Lets face it people. Competitive team sports are dying a slow death right in front of us.
This is no time to be adding silly sports like 8 man high school football.

Eight-man football is a form of gridiron football, generally played by high schools with smaller enrollments. Eight-man football differs from the traditional 11-man game with the reduction of three players on each side of the ball and a field width that can be reduced to 40 yards, 13 1/3 yards narrower than the 53 1/3-yard 11-man field. Most states continue to play on a 100-yard length field, whereas a few states opt for 80-yard lengths. Reduced-player football, which consists of eight-man, six-man, and nine-man football has gained popularity across the United States. As of 2015, 1,561 schools in 30 states sponsor reduced-player football, with 1,161 of those teams participating in eight-man leagues, whereas 284 teams play six-man football and 116 teams play nine-man football.
1.561 schools in 30 states play reduced-player football. So you think those schools all play a silly sport?

Look at Youtube 8 man football. There are a lot of videos including the Illinois 2019 championship game. There are also some very good instructional videos. There is generally a lot more scoring, usually games are in the 40, 50, 60 point range. It seems pretty entertaining to me. I think Indiana is behind the times as is par for the course.

I sure hope this is true.

I would love to hear some thoughts on the 8 man proposal. It basically states that any school under 300 students could opt for 8 man football. They would require at least 16 teams statewide to be able to do this. I wonder if this would prompt any small schools to start a football program. I know in SW Indiana there are several schools that don't currently play football. Some that come to mind are South Knox, Loogootee, Bloomfield, Shakamak, NE Dubois, White River Valley, Clay City, Orleans, and others. Also Wood Memorial suspended their team a couple of years ago. It seems like that most of these schools could get at least 15 or 16 boys to come out for varsity play. I know there are start up costs, but if there is a will to do it, it could happen.

I am always disappointed when I go to the IHSAA website. I have visited many state high school websites and I have to say ours is by far the worst. Go visit Kentucky and Illinois websites. Kentucky's is a 10 and Indiana's is a 2. It has been really bad forever. I wonder why they can't be bothered to create a new one. But then again it is the IHSAA.

Just out of curiousity, what do you not like about it? I would say it's better than Ohio's. I'll check out Kentucky and Illinois to see what types of differences there are.
It is very poorly done. It looks like to amateur created it.

Hicks: Indiana needs another wave of school consolidation - Affect on Indiana High School Football?

If two districts consolidate, they don't necessarily have to combine high schools. They could continue to operate both. They could combine resources and share AP instructors and other specialized positions.
