Three rematches with sectional titles on the line this week for HNAC teams.  Like they say, it's hard to beat a good team twice!  Having said that, I'm taking the previous winners in each matchup this week...

Glenn at Knox - The Redskins found out last week that regular season success won't translate to 3A playoff success!  They are a great team with some excellent weapons, but they'll have to take it to another level to win these tournament games.  The HNAC is a good conference, but it didn't prepare the Redskins for what they'll see if they go deep in the 3A tourney!  But Radtke will have them focused this week and Knox will get another Sectional 26 title.  Redskins 30-14

Bremen at LaVille - I think Coach Kaiser sat his guys down after the Triton game and had them all eat a Snickers bar, 'cause through those first two games, they were not themselves!  I was not impressed with the Lancers after two games, but they righted the ship and they're playing some good football at this point!  I don't think they'll have any trouble taking care of the Lions this week.  Lancers 31-7

North Judson at Triton - Forget about it!  That game on September 29 means nothing.  Notta.  Zilch.  The Trojans could do no wrong that night.  It was the best game I've seen a Triton team play since 2018.  Everything clicked.  This one will be different.  Judson will be prepared to defend Triton's passing game by applying pressure to Shively and not letting guys beat them deep.  Triton will need to be able to move the ball on the ground this time around.  The Jays will ground and pound all night long.  This game will be won in the trenches.  I'm expecting a lower scoring affair.  Triton's kicking game makes the difference.  Trojans 17-14

These teams are very similar except that Triton has Cole Shively!!  He runs, throws, kicks field goals and touchbacks!  NJ doesn’t have a player that does any of that as good as Shively does!  He is the difference in this game!

I forgot tackles and covers and intercepts as well!  His best position is on defense!

This game with NJ is going to be a slobberknocker!  Look at what Judson has done...  They've lost 4 games and three of those by less than a touchdown to 4A, 3A and 2A schools which are each playing for a sectional title tomorrow night.  Yes, Triton humiliated the Jays a few weeks back.  But that was by far the best game the Trojans played all year.  And the Judson kids will be looking to avenge that embarrassment.

I just don't see Triton dominating this game.  I'm not saying they won't win, but it won't be easy.

To me this game comes down to 1 thing!  Can Judson run the ball get first downs and control the clock?  If they can it’s gonna be a fight to the end.  If they can’t I believe Triton winds going away because of their ability to run and pass

Let's get this thread back to where it's designed to be and away from local small town drama/politics...

The game of the week in the north is the rematch between Triton and North Judson. Triton got the best of the Blue Jays in a big way in the regular season, but JH is predicting a 1-point margin this time around in favor of Triton. It looks like Park Tudor at North Vermillion could be a good one, but I don't know anything about these teams. I don't expect AC or Carroll to have any problems making it back to a regional rematch assuming they stay healthy and play relatively clean football.

It looks like there are a few good games in the south with North Decatur at Milan and Springs Valley at Providence. I don't know anything about these teams, but on paper it looks like a fun sectional final week.

Thanks Flying High for attempting to get this back on track!  As of now it’s looking to be dry in Bourbon Friday night along with a fresh field that hasn’t been played on in over a month,  I think is an advantage to Triton and the shifty qb

You can dance until the cows come home in Starke County if you want to.  We don't care one bit if it's raining over there!!  We just want it dry in Bourbon!  😉  Ha!

I don't think the Trojans have played a wet home game yet this year.  The field is in great shape for late October!

That field hasn’t been played on in a month

Shively is a very good athlete!  But he's not a guy who can single-handedly win a game against a quality opponent.  He's great when the team is great!  And he'd be the first to tell you that.  If the line doesn't show up, his numbers show it.  (See the Knox and LaVille stat lines.)  Great athlete!  Great kid!  Just not Superman.

    Exactly!

I’ve said it a hundred times,  you could have the best skill players in the state but if your line is overmatched,  it will be extremely difficult to get anything accomplished.  It ALWAYS starts in the trenches and lineman NEVER get the credit that they deserve!  That being said, Shively is MUCH more effective out of the shotgun versus under center!  Triton needs dry weather to execute against better teams!

North Judson is much better than they were that night, and Triton clicked in every possible way.  Check out the passing line:

That isn't happening again.  Judson will adjust!

If NJ and Triton meet in the sectional final - and they definitely should - it will be a totally different game.  Triton won't be able to duplicate that performance again.  The second meeting will be won in the trenches, not through the air.

I think May & Workman along with Shively proved against Judson during the regular season that they were the 3 best athlete’s on the field BUT NJ will try to run the ball down Tritons throat and bleed clock!  Can Triton stop them?  I think they can!

NJ sagarin rating went up by virtue of beating Pioneer. Triton’s sagarin went down after beating North Newton.  Judson is now rated higher than Triton.

The head to head between Triton and NJ must not carry anymore weight than a normal game in sagarin rankings?

How many HNAC teams have a reasonable shot to be sectional champs?  It appears that all but Triton have tough games in the first round!

    Knox 35-21

    Andrean 24-20

    CC 42-7

    NJ 28-14

    Triton 56-0

    SC 28-14

Then I don't understand why Knox is not 2a. From what I can find it says 3a is 600 plus kids. Knox has been below that for years now. I guess I'm looking in the wrong places. Thanks for the reply.
