801 Day 1 isn't what they use though, right? Everyone's #s are a little inflated Day 1, but I don't believe those are the #s they use for the state, could be wrong there.

Like... I think they wait to further in the school year to make the distinction on what your true enrollment is. The spring it was 717. Now, with housing you mentioned.... seems like 2026 is probably a very safe bet. But... do others grow enough? It's not JUST Charlestown's enrollment to look at. There are multiple schools bigger than you in 3A with larger FR and SO classes.

Either way, I'm just glad there's another school in the conference with turf. lol love your guys set up. PA system is impressively loud, wow.

I think one of their drives is 2.5hours this year to play a KY team. Then... probably another two hour drive to Greenwood to play Hammond.

Agree day 1 enrollment is not number they use, however 801 is biggest enrollment number ever at Charlestown. Also rumors of redistricting could effect enrollment.

Also PA Speakers are ridiculously loud🤣

    Good points.

We picked up Madison next year, in place of Indian Creek.

With you guys and your enrollment, which hasn't changed a ton in the last decade, I mean... maybe you guys start gaining some enrollment.... but there are still 20 schools with larger enrollments than you guys in 3A. I don't think it's a guarantee at all that you guys end up 4A.

Enrollment at Charlestown high day 1 of this school year was 801 students. Which is borderline of 4A. Also over 650 new residential home and apartments have been announced to be built in Charlestown in the next few years. Fully expect Charlestown to be 4A by 2026 if not 2024.

They have 900 students.... the bottom of 5A takes over 1500. If they add 600 students in 1-2 years... that's crazy enrollment spikes, holy cow.

They are a far cry from 5A. It's not a knock on SC to say that.

I would say a schedule of Jeff, Floyd, BC, Salem, CT, and NH would generally prepare you for the tournament, as well as, any other conglomerate of teams you could come up with.

    ^^^^^Agree 100%.

Would also add that Clarksville contracts with Scottsburg and Charlestown are up. Would expect Madison to fill at least 1 if not both of those spots on Charlestown and Scottsburg schedules.

Clarksville will find it harder and harder to fill Schedule, unless they join PLAC

I think it should stay at 7.

Silver Creek fits geographically and could jump right in immediately but they need to grow some more. They’re 47th in 4A with 913 students. The smallest school currently in the HHC is Jennings County at #22 in 4A with 1,181 students.

Jennings County is shrinking quickly though. They’ve lost nearly a quarter of their student population since 2011. If that trend continues, they won’t be able to keep up in the HHC. Wouldn’t be surprised if they leave by 2030 if things don’t change.

Back to the original question though, Silver Creek could jump in now but I don’t think it’s the right time for them. Personally, I’d love to see Bloomington North, Bloomington South, and Columbus North join. I think it’s beneath Bloomington South and Columbus North to do that. I think Bloomington North would at least entertain the idea.

Nevertheless, as I stated originally, let’s stick with 7. If the HHC and/or the Conference Indiana landscape changes, or if Silver Creek has a boom in growth, then we can entertain the idea of adding some schools.

I think more of a possibility than Silver Creek joint the HHC is Jeff, FC, and New Albany leave HHC to form a conference with a growing Charlestown and Silver Creek

PiratePride...I guess Friday’s win means I keep my job. From one Pirate Football Alum to (maybe another?)...Thank You! We have had a football program at Scottsburg for 6 years. When I took the job, we didn’t have a suitable field, bleachers, field equipment, helmets, paid assistant coaches,...not even a football. This year our 8th grade (first group all the way through since re-starting the program) team lost only 1 conference game. We have a record # of kids out for football in grades K-12 and a successful youth program. You have no idea about the direction or momentum of our program! Please keep hiding behind your screen ( though I’m sure I know at least of you) and making comments like those above, it definitely helps motivate me to work even harder! Coach Dean is a great man and coach as well, which I’m sure you know.

Good Luck Coach! Use what ever you need to keep motivated. I picked you to win by the way vs Eastern. Wish you and your Wife well.

BTW since we got you in here, with conference realignment in PAC and Big 8 going away how is that going to impact your non conference game vs MT Vernon? Any chance you guys pick up Madison? Would make a good rivalry game.

  7. Going to be a fun week in the MSC. A lot of competetive games.

    Silver Creek at Brownstown

For the Conference Championship. Silver Creek D is for real, but can their Offense put up points? Will Creek QB Myers be back from broken ankle?

    Salem at Charlestown

Should be a battle. Two very good Defenses. Can Charlestown muster enough of a passing game to keep Salem from going 9 in the box to slow down Lukes? Can Corbin and Salem put up points on a stingy Pirates D?

    Clarksville at Corydon

Both very young teams trying to build for the future. Both need a momentum building win. Clarksville has a ton of skill position speed, Corydon......not so much. Can the Panthers bounce back from being shut out back to back weeks to put up enough points to win?

Even Scottsburg at Eastern Pekin is interesting. Neither Coach Dean or Coach Mullins has been able to muster any sustained program momentum. Both seem headed in wrong direction. Is this a loser leave town (Coach gets Fired) type of match up?
