Even if those schools have another season before they are eligible, they need to be included in the alignments since they will be eligible for the second year of the cycle.

I get that.. The way I read that was you were saying they are eligible this year.  I wasn't sure if there was a special rule since a couple of those teams participated in 8 man before going to 11 man.

The DOE has released enrollment data from the fall count day for the 23-24 school year.  Here are the enrollments for each school for grades 9-12.  I made a tentative split for each class just to give an idea where they could be.  Note that there always seems to be a few schools that have slightly different numbers when the IHSAA releases their enrollments for classification.

Two schools in particular really stood out as having enrollments that were significantly lower than their 2022-23 enrollments - Rochester and Mitchell.  I think there may have been some kind of reporting error.  For now, I left them in the classroom they would have been in based upon previous enrollments, but I did list the enrollment that was listed by the DOE.

Schools with an * did not report their data to the DOE, so their enrollments are listed as the same as the number they gave the IHSAA in 2022.  I included Indianapolis Irvington, Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian, Greenwood Christian, and Lafayette Faith Christian since they have moved to 11 man football or plan to do so, and they are tournament eligible schools.  I also moved the schools who earned enough success factor points in the current cycle to be in a higher class.

I may have missed something, but I thought  Indianapolis Irvington, Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian, Lafayette Faith Christian had one more full season until they become tournament eligible? Unless the 8 man season counted for them... I know GCA is eligible for the tournament this year.

  3. With being a small school (enrollment only 228), we can not force summer workouts even if we wanted too. I am realistic when it comes to football not being the #1 sport at our school and that kids (especially in our area) have to work to pay for certain things. I do get a few kids that try to participate in both football and basketball in June and I try to take it easy on them as I know they are doing both. The one positive for me is our basketball team is a run and gun type team and so the basketball guys are going to be conditioned for sure.

  4. 1 hour ago, Julio said:

IHSAA was supposed to make all sports figure out a summer schedule, like football has the 12 days.  Some have done so, girls basketball and soccer, while most of them have not.  They keep saying we are leading the charge, but basketball will not change until the IHSAA makes their rules for them.  We try to work things out with our basketball coach, they get June and we get July.

We normally do this as well, but this year seems to be worse. It might be because we get all the moratorium all in July. We also start school July 28th so not much time between moratorium and start of school.

  5. I was just curious how everyone deals with summer workouts. We are a small school and share a lot of the same athletes. I just was told the schedule for basketball in June and they only have 7 days off and that is including Sundays.

On another note to me it is crazy that we only have 12 practices we can use between June and July, but basketball can workout basically everyday and play 20-30 games in June.

    Thoughts?

  6. I am a second year head coach and I am trying to get our players more involved in our community. We do not have a great history at Edinburgh (most know this), but our fans have always be in the stand supporting us no matter what.  We did a cemetery clean up last year and I am wanting to get more ideas. My goal is to take 1 Saturday a month for June through October to do an community service project. I would like to know what are some of your guys ideas are.
