That is absolutely correct.  Prior to the playoffs; So long as all pertinent information is in compliance with NFHS rules....any football is allowed.

Once the playoffs begin, it is just the Wilson leather GST.

So theoretically what would happen if both teams show up to the first round sectional game with non-Wilson footballs?  Or what if one team has the correct balls and refuses to let their opponent use them?  Do you just delay the game until they can get the correct ball?

I've just always wondered how you would handle that as an official.

  2. Team Issue is made by Big Game USA.  Big Game makes all of the Nike and Adidas balls for college programs if I'm not mistaken.  I think Team Issue is their "in-house brand".  I've been intrigued by them in the past, but have never tried them out.

Double check with an official, but I'm pretty sure that we are only allowed to use Wilson footballs come sectional time.

  3. As an old school coach, I have mixed feelings about these scrimmages, but ultimately I believe they are necessary in today's world.  It is difficult for us to ask our kids to show up to practice all summer long while never competing against another school until the middle of August.  We live in a society of instant gratification and I think the competition and seeing those other teams is a huge moral boost for our kids.

  4. This game will NOT be streamed via EH Sports Network.  There was some miscommunication between ourselves and the IHSAA Champions Network in regards to streaming the game.  We are an educational station and therefore our license only allows us to cover games for our team.  We did not realize this rule, and apologize to any TC or MD fans who were planning to watch the game.  WSVX and WREF will both be covering the game and doing an amazing job as they always do.

Thank you to both ADs for working with us and to the IHSAA Champions Network for helping figure out the situation.

Your questions are definitely valid. I have heard coaches say the only way to ‘win’ the scrimmage is to get out with everyone healthy. It still can be a valuable dress rehearsal though.

I would guess it’s more of a coach’s preference as opposed to regional/parts of the state. Some want to treat scrimmage like week 3 of the NFL preseason and starters play into the second half. Others are more like week 4 - one series and done.

I think overall it’s worthwhile. But matching up against the right opponent is the biggest thing, IMO.

Personally I think it also depends on the makeup of your team.  If you have a ton of returning starters, you may play them for a series and then use it to develop your #2s.  On the other hand, if you have a whole new team, then you might be more likely to use your starters for a larger portion since they often need every rep that they can get.

  6. We have been broadcasting all of our school's games for 3 years now on Youtube and Facebook.  What we have found is that we are drawing in more casual fans and other people in our community who wouldn't normally go attend games in person.  This includes teachers, elderly people, and those with large families of small children.  Our ticketed attendance has been relatively unchanged (excluding this year).  The only time that we have seen poor attendance due to a livestream is when the football team is playing in terrible weather.

Instead of charging people to watch, we just asked for donations.  That way people could donate if they wanted, but didn't feel obligated.  They also didn't have to get a credit card out for every game, just to pay $10 to watch a 50-0 blowout.  This also ensured that 100% of the proceeds went back into the athletic department, rather than 50% that most PPV platforms do.

  7. MEC

Eastern Hancock- Sits right on I-70 and is always windy.  Field runs East-West, so none of the fans are looking into the sun.  Pork Burgers are top notch!👍

Monroe Central- Excellent Locker rooms and concession stand setup.  Press box is nice and bleachers are pretty good on each side.

Shenandoah- Visitor bleachers are small, but the new locker rooms are nice.  Ham, green beans, and mashed potatoes in the press box 👍

Wes-Del- Visitor bleachers are tiny, and the press box has no roof access, but facilities are decent

North Decatur- New bleachers.  Always a fun atmosphere every time I have ever been to a game there.

  8. Eastern Hancock is hosting a 7 on 7 this summer on Thursday June 27th.  We are looking to host 4 teams this year.  It will be a round robin tournament with each team playing 4 games.  The cost is free, and we will have porkburgers and other concessions available.  We will play both Varsity and JV games.
