  1. Quick question for the rules experts here...

Last season we were warned that it is illegal for players on the LOS of a PAT/FG to step and interlock their feet after the snap. Is this a new rule? For years this is how I had always been taught and don't remember seeing anything about a rule change on it, but just want to clarify

    Thanks!

Justin Fields is a bigger, faster, stronger, younger version of Jalen Hurts, but with superior arm talent.

    Change my mind.

21 INTs and 28 Fumbles in less than 2 full seasons would be my starting point.

  3. Really looking forward to this one. Think it will be a 4 quarter battle

I do have to ask, is GCSN going to be broadcasting the game? And if so for the love of all that is holy can they find someone to commentate that knows even a little about football? Or better yet can they just link in to Miner Pride’s radio broadcast? My goodness the talk during the Southmont game was horrible…

    Go Miners!

  4. Much respect to the GS program and their well earned success, certainly not going to guarantee a loss or anything like that for them.
But I will guarantee that you GS fans will leave impressed with OV and their team. They have some very talented players, are extremely well coached, and play their tails off. They would win at least 7 games on GS’s schedule thru 10 weeks.

I expect this to be a great game, best of luck to both teams!

I see BNL as improved. I like their QB a lot. They’ll be competitive. Jeffersonville is going through another coaching change and lost some good Srs from a team with a losing record.

Jeff isn’t going through a coaching change, it was somehow mistakenly listed as open, but Coach Parker is still there.

Your math is quite a bit off there Uncle.  Linton NEVER has 25 out for football in a class.  You look at this year's roster.   There are 42.  That is an average of 10.5 per class.  The senior class only has 5.   And when you consider the Freshmen are playing on JV to be able to have a JV team the reality of the situation is there isn't enough for a freshman team.  So those are not just "my words". I realize it isn't another school's fault for another school's numbers.  My point to this whole discussion was how many "extra" numbers that MD gets over other schools.   75 on your roster (and someone posted that will be bigger now that freshman season is over.  So you average 25 per class if you don't count your freshman. If you think about it, that is superior numbers over a lot of other schools.  You may argue that numbers don't equate to wins, but it gives a team an advantage over choices of who you can draw the talent from.   Not to mention having most of your starters playing only one way.  In small school ball that is huge.  Your team stays fresher for 4 quarters especially with the linemen.

That's the point that he is trying to make. Linton has around 105 kids in their freshman class, but don't get 25 of them out for football. MD has around 128 in their freshman class, but gets 25 or more to come out for football. Sure, having an extra 25 kids per class gives you a better chance of getting 25 out but you still gotta be able to pull the numbers from what you've got.

I don't really buy into the enrollment=success argument much. Doesn't matter how many options your kids have for prom dates compared to mine, if my kids are bigger, faster, and stronger than yours I'm going to win 9 out of 10 times. Just like back in the day when LCC was routing everyone with a much smaller enrollment than their competition. New Palestine has built a dynasty of a program in 4A-5A playing 8-9 kids both ways every game, it's all about who can adapt and play the best with what they got.

Anyway, this has been fun - you got some conversation happening again on Linton threads! 😉

I've got the Miners winning tonight in a close game. They make a big play late - turnover or 4th down stop on D to seal it. Good luck to both teams, should be an awesome game!

I don’t think the East at Franklin Central game is going to be as easy a win for East as some might think. That 1-8 record is misleading because they play in the second best conference in the state. For instance, Noblesville (one of Franklin Central’s fellow HCC members) was 1-8 heading into sectionals last year and took a ranked and undefeated Homestead team to overtime before losing. Throw in the fact East will be without McDonald and Franklin Central could give us as much trouble as Noblesville gave Homestead. Still picking East but I’m definitely leery.

What's up with McDonald? Always been really impressed with him anytime I've seen him play since his Freshman year, hope he will be back next week for East

  8. Linton got over the hump, that's what killed off a lot of the chatter on here. And since then they are 3-3 in the tournament with all 3 of those losses being by 19+ points. The "old days" were mainly filled with arguments trying to defend the program and show that it could compete (and win) with anyone in 1A, as they proved that they could. The "rivals" have changed, it's no longer about beating Ritter, Scecina, LCC it's about beating Southridge and Mater Dei; and then eventually more potentially bigger and better teams. So far they haven't shown the ability to do that. I don't believe that will be the situation permanently, I think it will change soon - very soon - and then we'll start to see some new rivalries be built and more interest pick back up.

On paper, it looks like the AFC South will be a fight between the Colts and the Titans.  O'Brien has trashed the Texans and Jacksonville really hasn't done much to improve in the off season.  The Colts have an easier schedule than most this year, so they look to be set up for double digit wins.  As I see it their 3 toughest games are:  the Vikings, the Packers, and the Ravens.  However all 3 games are at home so there's that.  They do have the Steelers late in the year (on the road) who usually has their number especially in Pittsburgh.  All things being equal I see the Colts with a minimum of 10 wins.

Agreed. If they can't win 10 games with that schedule, regardless of who is at QB, they need to clean house and try again.

Houston will still be in the mix for the division. Hopkins is a great player but Stills, Cooks, Fuller, and Cobb will be enough to help Watson score points, not to mention a still improving O Line and running game. Defense will be the biggest question for them, and bouncing back from the collapse in Kansas City.

I am expecting Tennessee to take a bigger step back than Houston. Jacksonville is tanking and looking to lose 13-14 games.

I am disappointed in our round three selection.  A guy coming off an ACL is not exactly a great pick.  Only time will tell, but it is often said that players never get that spark back after that type of injury.  Just too many questions for that early in the draft.  Really wanted the receiver out of Texas at that point.  Scratching my head on the deal.  We also could have improved the OL at 75 or even 85.  With the amount of talent that was still there in the 2nd round, I would have tried to move into round two for as many picks as I could get.

I found that pick interesting as well as the Eason pick. Everything the team had been doing this off season seemed to be geared towards winning now, but then you take 2 guys in those rounds that most likely won't play a snap this season. Or at least not until pretty late in the year. IMO the 3rd round is still a time where you should be getting a player who will be expected to be on the field for at least 50% of your snaps on the season for their side of the ball.

I don't mind the Eason pick as much because he had fell a little and was probably worth a little more due to his potential. Really like the Pinter selection at 149 however, should be good value and a guy that can rotate around positions up front as needed.

  11. Is Phillip Rivers an upgrade over Brissett? Last season says no and that the Colts still have the 3rd or 4th best QB in their division. But the Colts can protect Rivers far better than the Chargers could. And they have a superior coaching staff.

  12. Crazy times. Sad to see him leave New England, but really think it is best for both sides. BB will be able to rebuild around a QB on a rookie contract making less than a million bucks the next 3 years. Brady will be able to make the money he is deserved for a couple years. And he gets to play with much better weapons than New England could afford to get this year. I don't think the offense fits him the way they ran things last year, but I'm sure he will have a large say in play calling and game planning.

Very curious to see if Antonio Brown tries to get in the door with the Bucs...wouldn't surprise me to see Arians give him another shot.

I wasn't stating an opinion, just facts.  You say your guys are rolling.  That is your opinion which you are entitled to.  They have a 2 game winning streak.  Linton is on a 13 game winning streak, but I won't say Linton is "rolling".  And those wins are facts and NOT my opinion.  Past games mean nothing ONLY when someone is trying to get their opinion recognized.  I deal in facts and reality.  You say you are at full strength now.  How long has that been?  Just the past 2 games?  And to say you are rolling due to beating Clay City and Cloverdale?  Your opinion doesn't have much basis in that regard.  VERY small and weak sample size.  I can agree that every game is different, but I don't agree that past games mean nothing.   In your mind if past games mean nothing, then I guess I can see how you can just ignore the fact that THS beat you in overtime and 3 days prior Linton beat them by 24.  And that was just last week!  So your guys are rolling for one week???  The facts don't support your opinion.  But hey, I'll give you some credit for being a true, blue homer.  "Rah, rah, rah.  Our guys can beat your guys".  Reality is such a bitter disappoint for those who tend to wear rose colored glasses.

    Good Lord...calm down man

    No sectional 47 topic?

Why would someone create one? If anybody even dares suggesting someone can compete with Linton you rip into them..
