I am an advocate of neutral sites to host tournament games after the sectional round, and I think the facilities in Indiana are capable of a format with neutral site hosts for regional and semi-state.  Here are my hypothetical neutral site regional games for this year.  All games would be played at locations with turf fields.  This will reduce travel times and remove field conditions as a variable.   It also gives schools an opportunity to showcase the investment they have made in their facilities.

Neutral Site Regionals - Friday Night

    6A

    Crown Point/Penn @ Chesterton

    HSE/Westfield @ Noblesville

    Ben Davis/Cathedral @ Arsenal Tech

Warren Central/Center Grove @ Franklin Central

    5A

    Merrillville/Valparaiso @ Hobart

    Mishawaka/FW Snider @ Warsaw

    Decatur Central/Whiteland @ Southport

    Bloomington South/Evansville North @ Jasper

    4A

New Prairie/NorthWood @ SB St Joe

    Leo/Mississinewa @ Huntington North

    Mooresville/New Palestine @ Greenwood

East Central/Evansville Memorial @ Silver Creek

    3A

    West Lafayette/Knox @ Kankakee Valley

    Delta/Indianapolis Chatard @ Pendleton Heights

    Tri-West/Gibson Southern @ Bloomington North

    Batesville/Heritage Hills @ Bedford NL

    2A

    LaVille/Lafayette Central Catholic @ Logansport

    FW Luers/Bluffton @ Norwell

    Southmont/Eastern Hancock @ Plainfield

Triton Central/North Posey @ Bedford North Lawrence

    1A

    North Judson/Park Tudor @ Northwestern

    Carroll/Adams Central @ Oak Hill

    Sheridan/North Decatur @ Greenfield Central

    Indianapolis Lutheran/Providence @ Seymour

Not trying to be smart aleck but you have a 3a game and a 2a game being played at Bedford is one on a Saturday?

Wonder if it'd be something like Harrison and McCutcheon joining up with THN/THS and perhaps toss in a couple of others like West Lafayette and Lebanon.  Harrison had THS on the schedule for a couple of years along with Westfield before trading for West Lafayette and Plainfield.

Wouldn't be ideal for the bigger schools, but it's not like the NCC was doing all that much for Harrison anyway ... outside of Jeff.  Could probably still schedule Jeff as an out-of-conference team.  Maybe look at playing one or more of the Catholic schools too as out-of-conference.  Chatard has played Harrison on its undercards for a few years.  They could replace Tech on their schedule with Harrison.  Maybe add in Brebeuf who could replace Tri-West or Marian with Harrison.  Brebeuf already plays THN and THS and has also played Harrison on undercards.  Of course, you'd have to convince WL to bolt the HC, but stranger things have happened ... and West Lafayette already plays McCutcheon and Harrison on their out-of-conference schedule.

Again, not a great solution for Harrison/McCutcheon, but right now they are without a conference and if THN/THS are also out looking, the Island of Misfit Toys might end up being better than possibly getting split or staying independent for several years.

Lebanon, Tri-West, and Danville will be free agents when the Sagamore splits

I know there is a growing sentiment among people at Sheridan that the WeBo game is pointless, and needs to go away. I'd love to see the Hamilton Heights matchup come back. Maybe a Lutheran/Covenant/etc?

On the other hand, Coach Wright often uses the WeBo game to just try stuff and see if it works. He might be lobbying to keep the game, just as another scrimmage.

I think there is a possibility that when the Sagamore conference splits that Webo drops Sheridan to pick up their rival of Lebanon or Tri-West. Tri-West is maybe 10 minutes away from Webo and about the same for Lebanon. Just my 2 cents.

Sheridan has scrimmaged C'ville for many years, they play WeBo to open the season (goes back 40+ years) and they have played North Mont in years past.  They could compete with those schools, but not sure they would jump ship from the HHC.  I would think if they could keep Clinton Central on the schedule (the SHS/Kirklin-CC rivalry goes back over 100 years) that would keep some folks happy.

Sheridan has been on Webo's schedule since 1997 not 40 + years

Western or Sheridan would be my personal choices, but it will probably be North Putnam.

And I still haven't seen an answer as to why these 5 schools chose to leave the Sagamore instead of attempting to kick out the other three.  Is anybody here privy to the Sagamore council bylaws and willing to share

Sheridan and Western have been on Webo's schedule for a few years. I believe one of those schools will be dropped to add Lebanon because of the rivalry.

The problem with the Lily development for WeBo is all the residential building is within Lebanon city limits after the mayor annexed land further out.  Lebanon will continue to grow and WeBo will only get the leftovers similar to how Tri-West and Danville have had in recent years with kids moving out of Avon and Brownsburg.  I think WeBo in 15 years or so will start to see residential growth but other than the farmers who sold land to the state, a lot of them aren't selling closer out to WeBo because no one wants the suburbs out here.

Lebanon annexed the Lilly development so it's part of Lebanon now. People that move to work there will live in Lebanon or whitestown. Lebanon is building several housing additions and whitestown is the fastest growing place in the state. There is no place to live in Thorntown, Advance, or Jamestown. No rentals available and very few houses for sale. There is supposed to be a housing addition in Thorntown but that is now on hold because people of Thorntown don't want it because they want the small town to stay a small town.

Not sure about Facebook but I seen it first on Twitter on a few post back in late March or early April. I tried to find the link  about this but they are not there anymore so I Google it and found it there. I think they were not supposed to mention this but everyone will definitely know when the youth start up. I did find it on Facebook it's under North Putnam touchdown club.

Seeger would make no sense geographically, if that even matters. It's almost an hours drive to the closest of the five former SAC schools. The three Putnam County schools make the most sense for an eventual eight team conference down the road, so coupled with the quoted post below, I would definitely say one of those three, though I don't know as much about the WIC.

Is this from Facebook? And if it is, is it still posted? I ask because this statement reads as if written by someone who is in the know but taken with the corresponding silence from North Putnam maybe wasn't supposed to let the cat out of the bag yet.

Regardless, North Putnam does make the most sense as the sixth team and with the new league not starting until 2026-2027, that g8ves plenty of time to bring the other two Putnam County schools on board. The question remains: what do Lebanon, Tri-West, and Danville do? There are plenty of  options I think for each, but what I can't figure out is why would they want to keep the Sagamore Conference name intact? If those three were each targeting separate or a joint move to other existing conferences, why are the othere five leaving of their own accord? Seems like this is simple one of many dominoes in West Central Indiana.

  9. Not sure if this is reading into something but here is this

FROM THE NORTH PUTNAM YOUTH FOOTBALL LEAGUE:

Good Afternoon Cougar Nation!!!! Just wanted to drop in with some very important and exciting news about our upcoming youth football season! Our board recently has sat down with each other several times, along with board members from NorthMont, SouthMont, Crawfordsville, and Western Boone, and our North Putnam board has voted to leave the West Central league. With that being said the new league being formed has voted and APPROVED us to join with them! So we will now officially be joining with Northmont, Southmont, Crawfordsville, and Western Boone beginning this upcoming FALL 2023!!! This is going to be so much easier and better for our community and our youth players and parents. We will adapt to the new league and their new age groups as well, starting now with our ROOKIES team now being a FLAG ONLY K-1st grade team, our Minors will now be 2-3rd graders and tackle, and our Majors 4-5th graders and tackle, and now our 6th grade boys and girls will be a solo team and tackle as well. We will need your help COUGAR NATION  spreading the word as we try to venture into flag again, and  to get as many as we can to sign up at all ages. We also will be doing online sign-ups again, that will begin here very soon, and I will update on here with all that information. I will have flyers going out to all the schools to let you know more information and also more important dates, and I will be getting those out before the end of the school year. Feel free to let us know any questions you may have, and we will respond as soon as we can. Thank you and we look forward to this huge step in our program and our community!! GO COUGARS!!!!!!

End of week 8 up until kickoff of the opening round of sectionals always brings up the qualifier debate, one I'm deeply passionate about. One of the biggest talking points for keeping the all-in is this roundabout myth that bottom half Sagarin teams flourish in the state tournament. Short answer is....they don't. If sectionals were seeded accordingly it would only further my point that a qualifier that cuts the field in half at the conclusion of the regular season is more than an appropriate measure for the IHSAA to put out a more competitive and exciting product come tournament time. I have decided to once again track every postseason outcome (especially games that feature a top half Sagarin rated team vs a bottom half Sagarin rated team), and if history repeats itself, will only further the narrative for a new postseason format.

By doing it this way can you tell which sectional is weakest, most balanced, or strongest?

I watched Plainfield play Tri-West this year in-person. A few costly turnovers at the start of the game proved to be fatal the Quakers chances of victory; the Bruins capitalized off of all those turnovers and jumped to a 19-0 lead at the end of the 1st. Slowly but surely, however, the Quakers inched back into the game and even took a 20-19 lead. However, TW scored on their final drive and won 25-20.

I think that turnovers are the key difference maker in this game. Once Plainfield got going, the Bruins had trouble stopping them, and GS definitely has a better offense than Plainfield. GS has also been great at not causing turnovers. As a result, I like your chances, GS posters.

Tri-West is a totally different team from that game. I think it was either their 1st or 2nd game
