  5. So what I am hearing is that football plays are more important than other things right now. You have to be kidding me. Our players just need to see your face and talk about life and how to deal with the things that are going on around them. If you want to have a great team. Care about your players mental health first.

What about Mark Brown.  He is an asst. at North Central(Indpls) with head coach experience Carroll(Flora).  I think he has been calling the shots on the offensive side of the ball for coach O'Shea.  And he is a darn good o-line coach.

I have heard about this Coach Brown. Whoever is able to hire this young man. Watch out. Your program, your players and your school will be truly blessed. I have heard that he truly cares for his players first. He wants to win. But, producing great young men for our communities. That is another gift this young man has.

  7. I was wondering if any coaching staffs in the state have installed what I think might be the very best playbook/game plan. Have you installed what myself and others as Man Talk, Come to Jesus, Big Brother, Manly Mondays, and or Thinking Thursdays.

If you have installed this idea. How has it worked for your team? Not in wins on the field. But, wins in your school and your team chemistry. Do you any lessons you wish to share with others about your 15 to 30 minute talks?

    Ok.

Very interesting why a team would want to keep playing when they are down that much. Should the other team say it is ok? We can call it a game. I am wondering what would the outcome be. West Lafayette should have been declared the winner if they did not wish to keep playing Benton Central?

Do both coaches have to agree to keep playing?

The Indiana mercy rule has the clock run through the try and then stop. It starts again when the kickoff is KICKED. It will not stop for other changes of possession. The only other times it will stop is for team time outs and injuries.

I would definitely get behind this. There are a lot of things not well done in the national mechanics book and several other things that need local interpretation or philosophy defined. If kept simple it could be a valuable resource for officials and be another step in the right direction to get us all on the same page.

Here is the state Mercy Rule.

    Rules and Procedures

    1. Beginning with the second half of any high school football game, when the point differential between teams is at or reaches 35 points, the game clock shall convert to a running clock.  A running clock is defined as a clock that does not stop during play with the exception of timeouts, scores and/or injuries.

    2. Once the running clock is implemented, the clock may not revert back to standard timing protocols regardless of the score of the contest.

    3. The 40 second play clock shall remain in effect throughout the contest.

    4. Coaches do not have the ability to override the implementation of the Mercy Rule during a contest.    The Referee shall notify the head coach of each school when the Mercy Rule goes into effect.  The home team is responsible for notifying timing personnel of the running clock

I haven't been on here in a while but this thread intrigues me. I have said for years that college coaches must take part of the blame for this AAU/Travel ball stuff getting out of hand. Instead of getting out during the season, it is more convenient to wait until the summer. I can speak from experience that both of my nieces were told by their volleyball coach, at a school in Indiana, you must play travel volleyball or you cannot try out. Isn't this against IHSAA regulations or is that just something that football coaches follow. (Sarcasm intended).

My daughter was told that by our HS volleyball coach. She was cut here sophomore hear because she was not on a travel volleyball team. She did 4-things and enjoyed being a kid. My question is if you truly have a freak of an athlete would you allow them to play if they did not participate in all the summer stuff with AAU/Travel?

its interesting that we can make coming to practice In the summer mandatory, but we have a mandatory week off.

I was told you can not make summer workouts mandatory for football.

  13. I have coached for a few years. I think it is very important for the kids to get away from the school and the coaches. Some conferences even have a dead week before the official IHSAA practice start date. I think that is a great idea. We do forget sometimes that some players even the great ones do not love football like their coaches. They need a break.

I do feel the AAU/Travel teams seem to gotten out of hand. When coaches say to a player if you are not on a travel/AAU team then you are not on the school team is wrong. I do know that is happening in the state.
