  1. #3 is a big time game changer at QB. Not nearly as dynamic as the QB Cass played back in 2012 (can't remember his name but he was one of the best players I've suited up against), but he can make big time plays with his feet. I haven't been super impressed with the passing game from Andrean from the film I've watched but they have the athletes at wide receiver for it to be effective.

If I knew the answer to that, I'd probably be coaching somewhere, or out in Vegas handicapping games.  I'm just going by current Sagarin for an objective view of things.  And I said Andrean had played teams better than Cass, not West Lafayette.  Howerver, here's where these teams are ranked state-wide currently:

    16.  Merrillville

    22.  New Prairie

    23.  West Lafayette

    30.  Hobart

    33.  Lewis Cass

    62.  Pioneer

    72.  Andrean

Obviously you can only take so much from the rankings because we've seen both West Lafayette and Lewis Cass beat one another this year.  The main point is that Andrean has played 3 teams ranked around/above Lewis Cass and West Lafayette and I believe they are the only 2A team left that can say that.

I should have worded the question better asking how the three compare to WL and not are they better. Your definitely right on Andrean being the only team that has played a schedule tougher than Lewis Cass left. You could make the case for Eastbrook's early schedule but their conference opponents other than Miss, not impressive.

I think you're trying to read what I said as a slight to your team and it is actually exactly the opposite.  I'm just saying that Cass is #1 and I think that in itself is an intimidation to other programs.  I'm not sure anyone left in the 2A tourney besides Andrean can claim that they've played a game against a team better than Cass.  Maybe Mater Dei but I don't think Sagarin would agree with that.  If Cass should beat Andrean, I think they'll have a big psychological edge to whoever they face in semistate because neither of those teams have faced a team I think is on a similar level.

Nobody would expect Cass to be intimidated by anyone the rest of the way.  They are certainly the team with the most "swagger" to them right now.

Are Merrillville, New Prairie, and Hobart better than West Lafayette? I'm just curious, I don't know much about the three teams other than I know New Prairie is pretty tough every year.

Anyone at the game last night that would like to recap what they saw last night?

Can Lewis Cass make it through the next couple weeks to get to LOS?

Will Laville ever get their program to a level that can compete for sectional titles at a 2a level?

Hats off to Cass, they got punched in the mouth right off the bat but did not flinch.  They execute their game plan to a t and played physical and fast.  Laville let the game get away from them from self inflicted mistakes and over a period of 10 mins, the score went from 8-7 Cass to 40-14 Cass.

Would like to hear others comments on the game.

As far as the game went, Lewis Cass feels they played a lackluster game. Fumbled very first drive, couldn't punch it in before the half, and a lot of missed tackles throughout the game. They were just that much bigger and faster than laville for it to not matter. That won't be the case coming up this next week. Andrean is a team that can match that size and speed.

As for making it to LOS, the Kings control their fate in my opinion. They are the best team in at least the 2A north when all teams are playing at their best. But they can't do all the things I listed above if they want to make it to LOS. The cupcake games are gone. You don't show up from here on out and your going home. I expect the Kings to come out this next Friday and make a statement against Andrean. So to answer your question, the Kings could def make it to LOS and should make it there. But they have to play better than they did against Laville.

Hats off to Laville for playing tough and not backing down from the challenge. Hopefully they have a great offseason and come back better than this year. Kings are just on a different level than most 2A teams this year.

With John. I think it was that but more so.... Knox is much closer to him then what Northwestern was.. And Knox did shell out the dough for him. Knox was always a sleeping giant. They have had good athletes, an increasing enrollment. I probably would have left NW too.

The two fastest kids on the field will be the lewellen boys.

Im not even a Pioneer guy but Damn. Ill put money on Ezra and Addai to beat any kid on Cass.

I'd take your bet. I'm sure Zeck and Eurit would find a way to make it happen!

  6. I've said it a couple times and I'll say it one more time, I wish teams who have lost to a team another has beat that is behind that team will get ranked above that team. Especially after said 2A team just beat a top ranked 3A team for a conference championship. Is what it is, can't wait for the playoffs to start good luck to all teams and hope everyone stays as healthy as possible.

For all those who might get confused because that was oddly worded Team A lost to Team B, Team B lost to Team C, Team A is ranked higher than Team C.

The question from my desk is how much has each team improved from week 1?

From what I've watched, you can see the improvement in Pioneer's defense every week. They get after teams. Offensively I haven't seen it as much. its a lot of option, buck sweeps, and belly. They run bootlegs, but I haven't seen much improvement or threat in the pass game. Their probably better off just having the quarterback take off every play. A lot of their scoring comes from one of the twins getting in space and just outrunning everyone. I think they had some lineman injured week 1 that didn't play. I felt like the biggest thing Cass did week 1 was controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball so hopefully those one or two guys up front can help out. For Cass, you can see a lot of improvement just from the first game against WL to the Conference Championship. Offensively, the improvement in running the wing-T effectively causes teams fits. Preparing for the Wing-T is difficult enough to prepare for in a week. Then having to prepare for a team that could completely switch it up on you the very next drive and go complete spread. The defense for Cass has been good from the start. The only thing that needed improvement was probably the secondary which had 3 INT's against West Lafayette so I think their making progress there. I just don't think Pioneer has the firepower Cass has at the end of the day

  8. I've watched a ton of both Pioneer and Cass film. I personally don't see Pioneer winning this game. Cass played about as good on defense as you can play against WL who has a couple more weapons on offense than Pioneer does. Its no secret when Pioneer snaps the ball who's going to carry it. One of the twins is going to end up with it. I don't think the twin playing quarterback has established himself as a serious threat throwing the ball. I also don't think there is a defense in 2A that can handle all of the weapons Cass has. Eurit is a straight up beast and gave WL fits all night running the ball which opened up the pass game for Zeck, Humphrey, and Good. Pioneer is a great program that is well coached, so it will be a ball game but they have to play a near perfect game in my opinion. I think Cass wins by at least two touchdowns.

Its the most blatant "restrictions" broken each and every year

Each Sectional should have a meeting, I know some do not, others do, each school gets together and talks about this stuff, what they do, make sure its ok, if its ok'd by the visiting school then home team proceeds.

I'll tell you one thing. If I'm in Eastbrooks sectional, I'm asking to smash each and every one of those darn cow bells to pieces. Love the tradition and atmosphere but man I can here those things a month after being there.

They're (Eastern) solid. Watched film from Ole Miss scrimmage.  I haven't seen Lapel play, but think neither will be able to hang with Eastbrook 4 quarters. Eastbrook is battle tested against a few really good teams and will roll through this sectional.

    Tipton?

Tipton's been just as battle tested as the Panthers, if not more so. This upcoming game this week against RC will tell a lot going into the tournament. I personally think saying they will "roll" through the sectional is a bit bold. If I remember correctly, last year Eastbrook thought they would "roll" through their sectional and another hoosier conference team gave them all they could handle in the Sectional Championship.

Enough about Eastbrook.  I think my Alexandria Tigers have a decent shot at playing in the sectional championship game.  Thoughts??

I think they get beat by Eastern/Lapel winner.

The road for the 2A North representative will probably go through state road 35, which goes through both Walton and Royal Center.

How are the health of teams going into the last 2 weeks?

I can't speak for Pioneer, but I don't think Cass has anyone seriously banged up. They play a big Hamilton Heights team and an even bigger WL team the last two weeks, but right now injuries shouldn't be a problem for them.

  13. I'll say what I said back in week 1. Pioneer has the two best athletes on the field, but they don't have the two best football players on the field. Eurit and Humphrey had big games against Pioneer week 1 and I'm predicting they will again. From what I understand, Pioneer had some guys injured week 1 that were key pieces. I don't think it will matter this time. Close game but Cass has too many weapons for Pioneer to stop.

To play WL two times in a span of 3 weeks should be considered cruel and unusual punishment.

I'll say this. As long as everyone is healthy after the next game between them(this meaning Cass can keep from getting upset by HH), I can't see it doing anything but making the Kings a better team for the tournament. This goes for any team that has had to play WL this year. Other than maybe Western who i don't think even played WL, the conference isn't going to see a team of that size and speed in the tournament all the way to LOS. So for players to see it and play against it, it elevates your game if you accept the challenge which from the only two games I saw, Cass and RC, they did. Were they both blowouts yes but there are always positives you can take away from losses, especially regular season.
