I ain't gonna lie ... while I share your confusion as to the strange change in schedule, that's going to be a cool match-up for Harrison. I'm hoping its across all the levels as my son plays on the freshman team for Harrison and that weekend was vacant due to the recent Muncie Central quarantine. Also looks like it's going to be a home game for Harrison, so I'll maybe get a chance to see that one ... and maybe even both varsity and freshman if all levels are scheduled.
Roncalli versus Harrison is varsity only. The Roncalli (not the Rebels) JV and freshman play Cathedral on September 26. The Roncalli freshman do play Lafayette Jefferson on October 10.

The Trojans do not have the depth compared to last season and they do not have a top-tier running back as compared to past years. Coons is pretty good but he also plays defense so they have to platoon RBs. Chatard's lines are pretty small but they are very talented. They took it to much larger Roncalli linemen. I think Cathedral has too much offensive firepower and depth. The star from the southside, Nathan McCahill, is proving to be a real leader. Cathedral 35-14.

The other David versus Goliath game last night was New Albany (5A) at Eastern Hancock (a small 2A). New Albany, who beat a pretty good Bloomington South team in week 1, held on to defeat the Royals 50-43!

Rebels dominate Franklin Central 36-6. FC's only score was on a one yard drive after a bad snap and Rebels led 30-6 at half. Baron Huebler had 266 yards rushing and the Rebel JV defense pitched a shut out in the second half. Good debut for Coach Rodenberg.

Roncalli just had a 87 yard TD called back for a sideline infraction! Baron Huebler has 199 yards rushing but could've had over 280! Someone should be running at practice!

IHSAA website is very confusing. They made a press release today regarding their re-opening plan.
However, when you open the post, it is dated June 5, 2020!

I believe the delay applies to all contact sports; football, volleyball, and soccer.

Who is the new coach?
Matt Geske - former assistant at Zionsville who was hired as an assistant at Brebeuf earlier this year.

WOW! I thought Mic Roessler did a great job at Brebeuf! His teams were always talented and very well prepared. A record of 54-30 with two recent State Title appearances weren't enough for him to keep his job.

The problem Roncalli had in their past with this is that the symbols used identified more with the American version of rebel. The flag you could see at football games was a single bar with stars in it, rather than the X in the stars and bars....way too similar. If memory serves me right, they had a mascot in a gray military uniform as well.
The Stars & Bars and uniformed Rebel mascot were banned from Roncalli over 25 years ago.

I do not like the name change. The Rebel name was perfect since Pope John XXIII (Angelo Roncalli) was known as the Rebel Pope. It was a perfect name voted on by the students and staff in 1969. Frontrunners are Rams and Lions. Lions because Roncalli was the Nuncio of Venice (symbolized by the Lion of St. Mark) before becoming Pope John XXIII. His papal coat of arms includes the Lion of St. Mark.

Given that Vatican II occurred under the time of Pope John XXIII, Angelo Roncalli, I can understand the reasoning behind Rebels from that standpoint. Yes, Roncalli was canonized a saint back about five years or so ago.
Pope John XXIII (Angelo Roncalli) was known as the Rebel Pope for his leadership on Vatican II, thus the perfect nickname chosen by the students and staff when Roncalli was formed via consolidation.
-
Roncalli has caved to secular political correctness! Too bad since Roncalli's namesake, Pope John XXIII (Angelo Roncalli), was known as the "Rebel Pope". It was a perfect nickname for the school and was voted on by the students and staff when the school was formed via consolidation.

I hear otherwise ...... conversation has started at roncalli
Yes, Roncalli has caved to secular political correctness! No more Rebels nickname even though Pope John XXIII (Angelo Roncalli) was known as the Rebel Pope!

The only college nickname that I feel offended by is Syracuse Orangemen (Catholic Killers)!
I hope that Roncalli doesn't cave to the pressure to change from the Rebels. Pope John XXIII (Bishop Angelo Roncalli) was known as the "Rebel Pope".
