  1. The Cass Kings were never happier than the day that kid graduated from Pioneer! 4 years against him was 4 too many. This young man was impossible not to like. An absolute unit on the field, and yes sir yes ma'am off the field. So cool to see the success he is having, and so very very thankful there are no more Kisers coming up!!

Its an absolute travesty that the IHSAA is sitting by and doing nothing while Indianapolis private based institutions move to take over the lower class football post season tournaments.

Indy schools own Class 6A, with Ben Davis, Carmel, Center Grove and Warren Central capturing all 10 state titles since this class came into existence.

Cathedral, Zionsville and Decatur Central sit on top of 5A, with Roncalli likely soon to join.

Chatard, Brebeuf, Roncalli and Cathedral have dominated 4A for decades.

Chatard owns 12 3A state titles.

Now the IHSAA is clearing the path for Indy to take over the smallest classes as well.

Covenant Christian and Indianapolis Lutheran are hybrid football factories built to win state championships.

Neither , nor should any other private school,  be allowed to compete in Class 1A.

Private schools have emerged much stronger and much deeper in the post pandemic period.  The gap between private school football and public school football in Indiana, especially at the lower class levels, is wider now than it has ever been.

Class 1A football was designed for small rural communities that would do everything they could to scrape together 25 to 30 players to fill out a roster , and hopefully survive a full season plus a tournament.

We are now seeing a 1A classification with private school rosters of 50 to 60 players, many recruited locally and on scholarship, playing in multi million dollar facilities with huge coaching staffs, the best equipment money can buy, and massive levels of administrative and community support, levels that very few public schools can match.

Its flat out wrong, it goes against the good intentions of competitive balance initiatives, and it needs to be rectified.

A 2.0 enrollment multiplier will force all PPs up a class, address the competitive imbalance realities that currently exist, and restore Class 1A to its rightful place as the home of rural, outpost football in Indiana.

IHSAA , Commissioner Paul Neidig and Assistant Commissioner for Football Robert Faulkens, its time to act and protect small school football in Indiana.  Its not healthy for the sport to concentrate all the power and success into the Indy Metro Area.  This approach discourages participation in other areas of the state.  Do you really want that as part of your respective legacies?

GID readers, if you agree, email Neidig and Faulkens and let your thoughts on the subject be known.

State baseball tourney just concluded - 3 of the 4 state championships won by private schools...ridiculous. 6 of the 8 teams in the state finals were privates, yet private schools compose a little less than 20% of the TOTAL high schools in Indiana. Privates are playing with a different deck of cards. If you think otherwise, please continue to keep your heads buried.

*yawn*  This is one of the more boring off-season threads I've seen on the GID.

That said, of course it is usually a p/p or mega school that does this due to different reasons:

Mega schools, by their very nature, just have that surplus of OMG! Athletes which makes athletic specialization more possible.

And p/p tend to develop their much smaller pool of OMG! Athletes into multi-sport automatons, coaches are able to plug them into a different sport after a relatively small practice window.

Just some food for thought - in baseball state finals, 5 of the 8 schools are privates, comprising roughly 63% of the teams in the finals. Yet when you look at ALL the high schools in Indiana, privates only make up around 19% of the total schools.

Twin Lakes JV baseball has played Harrison ... Western plays baseball both JV and varsity against Harrison.  My son says that Western has a pretty decent baseball team when they play them.

Western is 21-2 this year in baseball. Their top 3 pitchers are Louisville, Purdue, and Duke commits. Always solid in baseball, wrestling, and football. Hoops has been so so.

  5. Tough to pick in the Hoosier Conf - so many great programs.

    1. LCC - great tradition and support. Winning culture, college town and always tough.

1A - West Laf - many reasons as above, such close ties with Purdue makes it a really cool place to play.

2 - Rennsy Bombers - really tough nosed kids, great program, well coached, great fans and culture. Also Wagonmasters after all home games....

Physically this South Adams team is an anomaly for 1A football. South Adams wins this football game and that is in no way a knock on a very good Southwood team.

Of the teams Cass played this year, SA was the most physical team on the schedule. That includes West Laf, Tipton, Pioneer, Western, etc.. I'm not so sure SA couldn't make a run in 2a this year.

Jimmies and Joe's or Run/Pass Game don't matter.  Whichever schools lunch ladies prepare the better midday meal will determine this games winner.

I checked Tipton's website...no listing of lunch menus in the month of October, but they have November all planned out and for the community to see.  Makes me feel they will have a good Friday plan to get the boys ready to go.

I checked Eastbrooks website...uh-oh, they're on Fall Break.  Hope they make the sacrifice to still come in and make a solid post walk-through snack.  Or maybe they and the boys peaked last Friday with Pizza Rippers and a Spicy Chicken Filet?

Brings back fond memories of CJB. Would love to his thoughts on possible cures for Covid....

Pike just updated their turf. Will be one of the only fields with cork infill and new shockpad technology. Looks great!

Looks great. Sprint Turf is a great company. They are the only company where 100% of materials are made in USA and have the latest tech relative to infill, drainage, etc..

  9. 2012 Andrean at Cass. 5 OT time game with Andrean winning 67-66. If you were at the game, it was electric. Packed stands and crowds 2 deep around the track. Cass could not stop Desomer on the zone read, and stuggled making PAT's which proved costly late in the game. Total exhaustion after the game for both teams. I feel like Andrean came into the game not expecting Cass to play at the level we played at, and the physicality. By far the best HS football game I have experienced. The reward for winning this game was to face Jaylon Smith the next week....

  10. If  Spring sports do cancel, let's take baseball for instance. Is there anything preventing players and coaches from meeting another local team and playing at a non school facility? No team buses, get there on your own, and not mandatory. Teams would not have to wear any uniform provided by the school, or use any school purchased equipment. Obviously it would not be a sanctioned contest, but would allow players to still compete.

Just trying to ruffle the Panthers feathers aren't ya 🙂....  Cass #1 in the state last year, couldn't win a Regional... Would've loved to see an old school MIC match-up in Semi-State last year.

Lol just seeing how long it would take!!! Panthers are in a league of their own in all things cowbell. Both of these schools are great football schools. Tremendous support from community and buy in from players.

  12. This could be a really good job for the right person. Community loves football. Return the Johnson kid (move in from Winimac not sure first name) and Meister plus the Moss kid on the line. Other than that I can't think of anyone else I saw play this year that is going to help the Kings win. Cass needs to look for a HC with some experience who has been through some lean times and knows how to handle them, because they are on the horizon. Also need someone who is going to teach at Cass and be invested in the community on a daily basis. Just my 2 centavos.

We will return 10 on offense and most of our defense. A good freshman group coming in should bolster our depth. We added a 3A week 1 opponent adding to an already tough schedule with the likes of Adams Central, South Adams, Eastern Hancock, and Shenandoah. I'm excited to continue to grow our program.

I think if the Jones kid (frosh) commits himself to the weightroom, he could be a player.
