  1. I agree, the amount approved is high but it is the kids that do not get approved because they came from schools that basically do not sign off on anybody.  They may be few and far between, but they are there and I hate that they can keep a kid from playing a year of high school sports when a kid a town over can transfer w/o consequence.

My point is in 2019, families choose all the time what they think is best for their kid.   To sit back on here and make statements of something isn't right or "Smells funny" with zero knowledge is just wrong, but that is just me.   If both schools sign off, who cares?

My problem is that the schools decide.  Some will always sign off while others will never sign off. The fact that this isn't a uniform rule across the state and is left to the hands of individual schools is bothersome in that similar circumstances are not treated similarly.

While that may be true NOW, Muncie Central literally jumped 64 spots in the enrollment rankings from the '13-'14 alignment to the '15-'16 alignment. So in the 2014 season (a mid-cycle year), they were a 4A school playing with a 5A enrollment.

My point is why do people think Elkhart is going to move from two 5A schools to 1 6A school mid-cylce in the 2020 football season. I don't see why they won't just play the 2020 season in 5A and then when the reclassification for 2021-2022 comes, they'll get moved up to 6A at that point.

I dont understand what you are fighting here.  According to the classifications distributed by the IHSAA, Elkhart schools will play 5A in 2019 and then 6A in 2020 with Valpo moving down.  Not sure if you didnt see this or you are just against this?

  4. When Tom Noie broke this news last night, I was shocked.  During a time when, in many cases, the students, not the parents, are choosing which high school to go to,a corporation that cant afford to lose more students and needs ways to attract students has sent a message that athletics are an afterthought.  Just from a marketing standpoint, this move makes no sense.

Are there any other situations like this in the state, or do most schools have a full-time athletic director?  It seems that most of the schools in our area have an AD and possibly an assistant or a secretary as well.  Are any AD's also assistant principals/deans/other titles in other cases?   I ask because I genuinely don't know.

  5. I am not a big fan of 11v11 football at such an early age anyways.  Someone mentioned above  these kids just arent built to get in these stances yet...well, that is a part of the game so maybe these kids should not be playing full on football yet? I think football is such a different beast than a baseball/soccer/basketball where you can lower a rim, use a tee, etc.I love that part of the uniqueness of our game is that there is such a short window that most of us can actually play...and this includes not being able to play organized football at such a young age.

I mean, it really doesn't fit with the rest of us, but they could always come back to the NLC, and bring St. Joe, Marian, or New Prairie with them if things fell apart in the NIC.

Spots in the NLC could become a hot commodity soon! I give Mishawaka credit for their foresight and being proactive and it sounds like Glenn and Bremen are doing their due diligence as well.  The athletic department caught sleeping is the one that is going to lose out if a shakeup is imminent.

It might be a bad hire for other reasons but the notion that it is for the simple reason that he's a MS coach is straight up garbage. There are plenty of good MS coaches and can't understand why HS coaches play the holier than thou card on MS coaches esp ones in their own program.

No one said there aren't good middle school coaches, but you can't deny the fact that the jump from MS HC to high school varsity HC is a HUGE jump on so many different levels. That is probably why you do not see it very often and can cause some people to question that hire.  Note Dame attempted their "Bold Experiment" with Gerry Faust and it didnt pan out too well, hopefully it is a different outcome in Hammond and SB.

Once you are licensed, the only thing that's required to keep your license is to renew it each year. If you are a licensed official, you can work regular season games. In order to work the tournament, there meetings you have to attend, clinics you have to attend, tests you have to take, online interpretation presentations, etc.

    Thank you!

I will add another caveat: At local meetings I see a lot of people missing that we've seen in years past. I often ask where's Bill, where' s JIm? And the standard answer is becoming they're not applying for the tournament anymore. So given that situation, the interpretation issues are going to continue to get worse as I see it. There is becoming a larger and larger group of officials who have basically zero contact with the IHSAA for rulings, interpretations, mechanics, etc.

That is too bad.  Are those that miss not considered IHSAA officials anymore? Obviously this would mean these crews arent doing tourney games, but does IHSAA have any say on who can ref a regular season game? Sorry if these are dumb questions, just not sure how it all works from the officiating end.
