  1. Exciting week in the PAC. I look for there to be a lot of close games and maybe a few "upsets" that I would not be surprised by.

    GS @ Southridge - by 2 scores

Mt. Vernon @ Forest Park - by 1 score

Heritage Hills @ North Posey - by 2 scores

Pike Central @ Washington - by 2 scores

    LS @ Boonville - by 1 score

South Spencer @ Princeton - by 2 scores

Tell City @ Springs Valley - running clock

  2. Unfortunately I think this is the week we don't have any close games, although Reitz and Mater Dei could keep it close potentially.

VL @ Castle - Knights by 4 scores

North @ Bosse - running clock

Memorial @ Harrison - Tigers by 4 scores

Mater Dei @ Jasper - Wildcats by 3 scores

Central @ Reitz - Bears by 3 scores

  3. I agree. The kids I know who have gotten it all experienced minimal, short-lived symptoms. One kid told me he woke up with a sore throat then was completely fine the next day. Another kid told me he woke up with a stuffy nose and headache then was completely fine the next day. There are numerous things on a daily basis that pose a greater threat to kids than this virus.

The exact opposite actually. No doubt the expectations have been tempered heading into this season. But the results through 3 weeks are encouraging to say the least. The Reitz and MD games have shown where we lack to win consistently in this league. Even so, those contests were both down to the wire. Physically we match up well, which was a concern of mine. Of course, this Friday will be more telling.

I agree. I think VL has proven that they can compete with the bigger teams in the SIAC, especially with coaching and physicality. When it comes to overall speed and amount of skilled athletes, that's where their disadvantage may often come. Sure, their goal is probably to win the games, but I would say it's a success for them if they are competitive in each game and maybe go 3-6 in their first SIAC season. I could see them beating Harrison and possibly Memorial. I think they will be competitive against Castle. I don't see them hanging with Central, North, or Jasper.

  5. Forest Park @ Tecumseh - by 3 scores

North Posey @ Tell City - by 2 scores

Gibson Southern @ Boonville - by 3 scores

Phalen Academy @ Princeton - by 2 scores

Mt. Vernon @ Owensboro Catholic - by 3 scores

South Spencer @ Heritage Hills - by 4 scores

North Daviess @ Washington - running clock

Southridge @ Pike Central - running clock

  6. Reitz is pretty good but will get even better. Brickey and the defense are still improving with the new systems.

Jasper is very good. I would not be surprised if they win out and take the conference title in their first season. Looking forward to their matchups against Central and North.

North continues to dominate but can they continue the momentum with a tough opponent in Reitz making the trip from the west side? If I remember correctly, North narrowly escaped Reitz last season.

Mater Dei proved that they are still a contender with a nice win on the road. Honestly thought VL would win that one.

Does HH expect to be back at full strength this week? How about Boonville? Did GS find a week 4 game?

I believe HH will not be back at full strength until next week at the earliest. Not sure about Boonville. GS has not found a week 4 game as far as I know, and there probably are not many (if any) options right now.

Does anyone believe that if the best players from teams 1A - 3A were on a team, could compete or potentially beat Center Grove?? Just curious on peoples thoughts!

Fun topic. I don't know enough teams/players to include the best of the best. But using all-state/all-conference teams, here is what I could come up with for the "all-star small school team"...

QB - Brady Allen (Gibson Southern)

    RB - Ryan Walsh (Andrean)

WR - Cannon Melchi (West Lafayette), Noble Johnson (Parke Heritage), Bryant Boggs (Wabash), Drew Stutzman (South Adams)

TE - Jacob Strange (West Washington)

OL - Braden Tucker (Gibson Southern), Joe Strickland (Brebeuf Jesuit), Jaxon Miller (Triton Central), Tristen Hayes (Oak Hill), Dylan Mathena (Tell City)

DL - Antwann Dix (Cardinal Ritter), Mo Omonode (West Lafayette),  Blake Ritzert (Mt. Vernon), James Ralph (Evansville Mater Dei)

LB - Lucas Hines (Brownstown Central), Hayden Kermode (Triton Central), Hayden Karlaftis (West Lafayette)

DB - Lane Burns (Eastside), Grant Bell (Sullivan), Isaiah Dalton (Eastbrook), Peyton Wert (Milan)

To answer your question, yes. I think this small school all star team could compete or beat Center Grove. But it would be close.

  9. Bosse @ Castle - running clock

    Central @ Memorial - by 3 scores

Mater Dei @ Vincennes - by 2 scores

North @ Harrison - running clock

My game of the week:  Jasper @ Reitz - by 1 score

This will come down to whether Brickey and the Reitz offense can minimize their mistakes. Jasper is typically very disciplined and will capitalize on the mistakes of opponents. I'll take the home team in the Bowl.

And it was...painful to watch at times, but exciting. I think I counted 8 or 9 turnovers between the two teams. Many, many penalties as well...even for this early in the season it was quite sloppy.

Felt like VL played really well but couldn’t finish at the end of each half, which was when Reitz scored all of their points.

Very sloppy. 10 turnovers, 5 for each team. I think VL is good enough to be competitive in the SIAC. Looks like they have a solid defense at least. Reitz is better than what they are showing, as they are going through growing pains with a new system. They will need to speed that process up as the tough part of their schedule is approaching. Jasper and North loom large in the coming weeks.

  11. I'm all for teams still playing the games if they have enough kids to field a team. Who knows how many games they'll get this year and it could give younger kids some experience. Props to HH for giving it a go, despite knowing that they may suffer another loss. I'm a big "don't-let-Covid-win" guy. Tell City is looking solid but I still think SR beats them handily. It is cool seeing Tell City and Forest Park do well though.

Any schools looking to move their game to Saturday because of the severe weather expected from Laura?

Majority of schools in southern Indiana will be discussing and deciding that today. I would guess a few games that involve longer travel will make the move.

A HH player stripped the ball and looked like he was going to return it for a TD but the Mount Vernon player caught up to him as he got close to the endzone and not only knocked the ball out of his hands from behind but the Wildcats recovered just inches from the goal line.

Saw the highlight of it. One of the better high school effort plays I've seen in a while.

Watched the Reitz/Harrison game last night, and have to say, it was a weird one. Harrison did well on special teams (two huge punt returns), but overall, take that away, they only had one really big drive against the starters (their first possession) that led to a score. Not sure what to make of them. Will they be that team that averages 28 a game, but goes winless because they can’t stop anyone? Who knows.

Reitz on the other hand, looked pretty good on offense. Defense was a little shaky at times as they implemented a new defensive scheme this year, and special teams was atrocious. Maybe put in some work on that this week. But overall, I was happy with the progress I saw last night.

Have to agree based on what I saw. Harrison has some speedy athletes, but they need to get the QB situation figured out. The Reitz special teams issues could be an easy fix with some personnel changes I would think. Other than that, their defense looked okay considering most of them probably did not play much last year. Their offense could be dangerous. Brickey is a load at QB and has a quite a few weapons at his disposal. The Burns kid seems to be a difference maker on both sides of the ball. Look for Reitz to improve and be one of the top contenders in the conference.
