I think I would maybe add over-confidence as a weakness of last year's Panthers. Not having the sophomore QB was not the reason Reitz lost to Boonville.

I fully expect Reitz to go undefeated in the SIAC this year. MD, Memorial, and Castle probably won't be as strong and North never seems to rise to the expectations. Jasper is somewhat of an unknown (at least to me at this point).

But once that tournament rolls around pretty much anything can happen on any given night...

Good points. And yeah, I expect their approach to be much different heading into sectionals this year.

  2. By the way, some of my tailgating pals were talking about the new start time and if it will effect when the gates open. Have any of you heard when the gates will open at any of the fields? How much earlier will we have to start the 'gating? These are important questions 🤓

Those are some pretty strong words in a tough sectional.   Reitz finished last year less than a TD favorite over Memorial and 10 points over Jasper per Sagarin in a closed conference.

And their weakness was...lack of discipline and a hurt QB. That was the point. All the talent they return + what they have coming up for depth + any transfers they got = very good team. I do expect the conference to be more competitive this season though, so I will say there are a few teams more capable of upsetting them. But there are some that just have huge question marks so it's hard to say.

  4. But that's what the opposition wants. The only way Reitz is losing until regionals will be due to lack of discipline or maybe injuries. But from what I've heard, save for one sore thumb, the culture and leadership is much improved. I guess that's something you should expect to happen with that many seniors and returning starters though.

  5. Haven't updated the SIAC D1 offer list in a bit, but seems to keep growing!

So who knows who all the transfers into Reitz are this year?    Hearing there are a bunch.

I know there was a big one but heard there weren't many besides that, nothing close to last season. Sounds like they are mostly relying on that huge class of seniors that are returning starters.

You mean you can't just #hashtag it into existence?

From what I've heard, it sounds like they are taking every measure possible to ensure that it's their focus. I'm sure more reports will come out about that soon enough. But opponents don't want to see them disciplined, might already be a wrap as is.

Still good enough to win the sectional and likely play Triton Central in the regional for the 5th straight year

North Posey could give them a tough time this year but yes, I still think MD will make it to sectionals or regionals. However, I do think Triton Central finally beats them this year. How far would MD have to make it to move up to 3A?

There is a major gap between the North/South in 4A right now. Not sure what certain programs from the South lost, but East Central should be the favorite by a long shot. New Pal, Roncalli, Memorial, and Reitz should round out the top 5 if we are being honest.

Definitely agree that there is a large gap. This year I think East Central, Reitz, Roncalli, and New Pal would all win state against the North team that makes it. That's not even saying the North teams aren't good, it's just the south is loaded right now.

  12. From the SIAC...Matthew Fisher of Memorial, Ben Davies of Reitz, and Xander Hunt of Vincennes are all very talented QBs

    • in 11 games - Fisher finished with 1830 yards and 15 TDs to 10 INTs - class of '25 comes in at 6'3" 180 lbs.
      • Good size and poise. Good completion rate. Throws a good ball in and out of the pocket. Tough competitor. Also a good baseball player.
    • in 9 games - Davies finished with 1561 yards and 18 TDs to 7 INTs - class of '25 comes in at 6'2" 195 lbs.
      • Injured in week 4, missed a few games, never really recovered. Put up great stats when healthy. Surgery in offseason, expected back healthy. Good size and throws a good deep ball.
    • in 10 games - Hunt finished with 1464 pass yards and 10 TDs to 7 INTs, added 908 rush yards for 13 TDs - class of '24 comes in at 5'10" 160 lbs.
      • Was named SIAC POTY. Undersized but incredible competitor. True dual threat. Decent passer but really thrives running the ball. Willed his team to wins and kept them in games where they were outmatched.

And just like that….first game in 6 weeks!

Just around the corner. I assume July consists of more contact and competitions, hopefully all the teams will get through the summer at full strength. I expect the 1-7 spots to be very competitive in the conference!

Not sure on who you all listed- but we should return 7 starters on both sides of the ball- if academics/eligibility/specialization gonna be “basketball and baseball” stardom doesn’t get in the way lol…(insert eyeroll emoji)

I expect Southridge will be very good, maybe better than last year. Handful of those players that made their defense so tough are returning. Scoring points will be the question for them. I don’t think they will be quite as good as GS but they’ll still be as tough as any in 3A south.

  17. From what I hear the competition was good, the teams got better, and most importantly came out healthy. All you can ask for out of a summer scrimmage. Any word on how the Castle or Boonville QB situations looked? Both have big questions to answer at that position.

I believe Reitz is scrimmaging at Gibson Southern tonight. Should be a great early test for both teams.

  18. We have another player to add to the list! Updating the SIAC D1 offer list after Hayden Summers of Reitz got an offer from Lindenwood!
