  2. Anyone speaking in absolutes on this topic is wrong from the get go. No one knows exactly where we are headed, but I like to look at the optimistic side of things. As some have stated before, these kids for the most part have been around each other and each other's families for at least the last month or so. If there was going to be a big spread, we would have likely seen it by now. Also, until the governor, the IHSAA, a county health department, or a school board tells us we are not going to have a season, I am going to coach like we are and make sure I am following the safety recommendations laid out. The kids deserve both our hardest work as coaches as well as our highest diligence to adhere to safety precautions we have been given to protect them and their season.

One pro that most people have probably missed is that it's easier to spot the dog crap when some uncaring person walks their dog on the field and lets their dog do its business without cleaning it up.  Nothing worse than that first tackle of the game, heading back to the huddle, and realizing that's not the sweet smell of success.  😃

When I coached at Muncie Central, it was a fact of life that you would leave the field with at least two or three mounds of goose poop stuck to your shoes.

  4. Pros:

-Varsity, JV, 7th and 8th grade, and youth league teams all play on our turf. Many times Sunday is the only day there isn't a game.

-PE classes use it during the day

-Baseball and Softball are able to hit/field on it

-Track teams can run/workout on it saving shins and legs

    -No mud

    -Little maintenance

    -Uniforms last longer

    -Tends to look nicer

-Easier to mark off penalties/ do measurements (lines more accurate)

-Concussion type injuries are less common from hitting the turf in a helmet as opposed to a hard ground in November. (this is an observation, not a fact necessarily)

    Cons:

Hella rubber pellets in my truck/house/classroom after practice

  5. Let's be honest here.. There are only 3 maybe 4 people on this entire 6 page thread who actually know the kid and have ever talked to/coached him. Those that have, know that he and his family were going to make a decision that they thought was best for him both athletically and academically. Also, those that know him know that he will work his tail off to earn a spot (in whatever capacity they need him) and get a degree.

I think it's a poor choice   but people make decisions for different reasons

Allen has been recruiting 4 star talent to the RB position now for two years

Charlie is a low 2 star player

This is a marketing- PR move    perhaps a good one over the long term.  Only time will tell

You can have your opinions for sure, but I wouldn't put it past him to find himself a playing spot earlier than most think. Very few kids if any have put in the work that he has in and out of season and he is faster, more athletic, and much more football smart than people give him credit for.

Mississinewa's kicker has hit from beyond 40 yards more than once this year.  Delta and Mississinewa pretty evenly matched.  The last time these two played each other it was a very cold snowy, sleeting, freezing rain, and windy night at Delta.  This time it is at Mississinewa and the locker rooms are both field side where the clock can be seen from the locker room.  At Delta the visitor's had a 2-3 minute walk/jog over to the locker room and no view of the clock.  Mississinewa ended up with a delay of game to start the second half because of this.  Mississinewa didn't play well in that game at all and Delta had their number that year.  This game will be close

The last time they played each other is irrelevant. None of those players will be playing tonight and there are different coaches and schemes involved.

CIC Round 1.  Who is making in to next week?

    By the Saragin numbers:

Delta @ Mississinewa = Delta favored by 10

Peru @ Oak Hill = Oak Hill favored by 4.5

Tipton @ Frankton = Tipton favored by 30

Eastbrook @ Blackford = Eastbrook favored by 22

Alexandria @ Elwood = Alexandria favored by 36.5

Madison Grant @ Taylor = Madison Grant favored by 29.5

    Who are you taking?

Going with all favorites this week, don't know enough about Peru to go against the prediction.

Although in an ideal situation this would be nice but I don't ever see this happening.   The question is, if these small schools are using the same athletes to win basketball, baseball, and other sports why can they not compete in football?   I know that's a loaded question but just something to get a Friday conversation going.  Is it lack of tradition, toughness, football knowledge, kids specializing in sports, parents attitude towards football, poor feeder systems, lack of HOT MOMS?  Thoughts?

I think that tradition and specialization (or prioritization at least) are the two biggest thing. There aren't any schools big enough in that conference to be able to not share athletes and still have success across multiple sports. We have found (and I'm sure many others have as well) that our multi-sport kids are the ones starting in most sports and having the most success because of the different experiences and skills they attain from each sport + the weight room. The tradition aspect though is one that is harder to fix. Takes the right person at the right time that is willing to take lumps at first and stick around to build.

Not a single close game once again this week.  What is it going to take to make this conference competitive???? I didn't spend a whole lot of time looking but at first glance only 3 conference games have been won by less than 20 points.  13 out of 16 times this year one CIC teams has beaten the other by 20 or more points.  These bottom feeders need to step it!

    Eastbrook

    Ole Miss

    Blackford

    Oak Hill

All winning by 3 or more touchdowns.

Is it time to look at breaking up the conference to find better size/competitive fits for all of the schools? I know Alex has had some good baseball and basketball seasons and Eastbrook does well in some other sports as well, but is the competitive gap true in other sports as well? For the HHC the big gap is in football but the other sports seem to balance well between the schools for example.

Feels like it's just mediocre matchups this week.  You would think there would be hype around the Eastbrook V Alex game, being that it's for outright first place in the conference and all.  But for some reason everybody thinks the Panthers have already won .  This could be a catch game if the Panthers aren't careful.  I know Coach Adamson will have these boys pumped up and ready to go, but we can't look past this game.  Alex will be just as ready if not more.  The chance to slay the mighty Panthers, take the milk can and the conference lead...  From what I understand Alex has a mighty passing attack, which, as we all know, seems to be an achilles for the Panther D.  Would be interesting to know how much the Panthers worked on the Secondary D this week.  Still don't think this will be a huge threat as long as they can disrupt the pocket and pressure the QB all night... But "Any Given Friday", No win is guaranteed....

I think this forum will blow up next week if MG and Elwood keep their streak going.... BATTLE OF THE DEFEATED!!!!  But we have to play this week first, can't get ahead of ourselves....

Good luck to all teams and fans this week, stay healthy and show sportsmanship in the stands.  Safe travels to all!

    GO PANTHERS!!!!

Coaching against them the past two years I would actually argue that their pass defense is better this year than last. They returned more on the outside than inside defensively and seemed pretty sound. Granted that was week 2 and things change, but they are long and disruptive in the secondary especially on clear passing downs.

They are absolutely a contender.  But they have a strong challenge within their own sectional.  Wouldn't be surprised to see them in the state finals but also wouldn't be surprised to see Pioneer avenge their opening week loss and win that sectional.

Good call. I think that, similar to Eastbrook, their schedule helps them be prepared for the tournament. The rest of their schedule being 3A and 4A teams may give them a bump or two, but should get them ready for a run!

I'm not going to say much about Ole Miss.  I wasn't at the game last night so I haven't even seen them play this year.  I hope they are legit because that will make this win by Eastbrook look better as the season/postseason progresses.

I will say this regarding 2A.  None of the usual suspects have really stepped up and shown themselves to be a juggernaut so far.  The programs coming in from other classes like Luers, Andrean, and Pioneer have all already lost games I didn't think they would.  Last year's champ dropped a game in which they allowed 40+ points after not allowing more than 20 in a game last year.  This thing feels WIDE open to me, particularly in the North.

It looks like Cass is a big threat in the North. Return a lot from the team last year that took Eastbrook down to the wire in the post season and have 2 or 3 quality wins already this year starting 4-0
