Do the Saints have any kind of chance in this one? Leo resembles a high caliber 5A program. Decent size and very good athletes. Impressive win, for the second time, over East Noble.

I'll take the Lions by 14+.

Leo all they way.  I'm looking for the Lions to lock up Minnix (w/ Hurst) and force the Saints to try and grind out a win which I don't believe they can.  I also don't expect to see the Lions play a cover 0 all night against Dwenger like they did against East Noble (which is how they gave up the big plays Friday night).  And Carter got his chance Fri night and man did he take advantage.  Kid hit the hole like a bullet every play and was had to bring down for his size, I think Leo found their RB1 for the rest of the season.  I'm going to say Leo wins, 35-17 and ends their sectional drought.

I've got East Noble vs Wayne. When it comes right down to it, I think the Knights are the best team in the sectional. If they don't give 100% though, it won't take much for Leo or New Haven to dethrone them. They have to play like their lives depend on it, or it's over.

I like the progress Wayne seems to be making every week. Will be interesting to see how they do against Snider tonight.

East Noble has gotten much better since the Leo game and what they did to NH was impressive.  When they played Leo earlier, the Lions played them in a straight cover 0 all night and loaded the box using their top3 cover guys (Hoeppner, Hurst & Zeisloft) to blanket the Knights receivers and they obviously did well with it.  I FULLY expect Coach Amstutz to have a counter for that this time around.  Maybe using motion to cross up/pick the man coverage and also use the RB on routes seeing if the LB's lose track of them.

If Wayne is able to hang in anyway with Snider tonight, I could see them knocking off Dwenger.  Last year they nearly knocked off Columbia City in a game most thought the Eagles would run away with and they are a year better now, granted Lamarion is gone.  This is definitely the premier sectional in the area this year.

Really? I see it as a New Haven vs Dwenger with New Haven winning the sectional.

Dwenger is down to the third string running back but they should over come Wayne, Angola and DeKalb.

New Haven was seriously exposed by East Noble's running game last Friday.....East Noble ran power lead over and over and over again and NH could not stop it. On top of that, they did NOTHING to adjust.  Even if Mylan comes back (which there are rumblings he may not) he wont make a difference defensively.  EN was able to pressure Williams and keep him in the pocket rushing only 3 and dropping 8.  I'm seeing an East Noble/Leo rematch in Rd 2 and that game could go either way imho.

The Dwenger/Wayne winner will have a definite "recovery" game in round 2 with possibly Dekalb giving light resistance.  Dwenger may be down to their 3rd RB but their style of play will still keep them in any game with any team in this sectional.  Wayne is a team nobody is really wanting to play from what I'm hearing.  They can go into their Jumbo set and run smashmouth football and they can spread you out with their athletes, pick your poison.

Leo definitely got the best draw (other than Angola and Dekalb) with a date at South.  I'm gonna go out on a limb and say this though, if Coach Doerffler can get the ball in Hurst's hands 12+ times a game, they win this sectional.  That can be pass targets, jet sweeps, Wildkat or even put him at tailback, that kid is the biggest weapon in this entire sectional.  Best decision he ever made was to get out of that dumpster fire on State str and go to Leo.  Combine that with Leo's defense  playing at a high level with Schott and you have the tools for a run.

I'm seeing a Bishop Dwenger @ Leo sectional final.

I'm interested in seeing how Dwenger or Wayne does against East Noble or New Haven because I know Luers is much improved over the season due to young inexperienced team.

Sectional 19 is going to be murderer's row.....top 3 teams in NE8 on the same side and both SAC teams on other side, let alone facing off in 1st round.  I know a few NE8 coaches are cautiously looking at that BD/Wayne matchup and actually are more worried about Wayne than Dwenger.  But yeah, seeing the scores of Luers against NH and EN the first 2 weeks then to see what Luers has done since.....impressive.  As of late, NH has been on a little decline without Mylan and now there are rumblings he may be done for the season.  East Noble just physically PUMMELLED them and that would not be sign if they where to get to a matchup with a Wayne or Dwenger.  With that being said, I see Leo facing off with Dwenger in the Finals, and if Leo finds more ways to get the ball in Hurst's hands, Dwenger could be in trouble.

Look, you can only beat who is on your schedule, but to not play the best 2 teams in the conference is silly. Even if they beat Sparty, nobody should consider them the SAC champion. Luers may go on and win a state title this year, and I hope they do, but they aren’t even close to being the best team in the SAC

I'm sorry but this is coming off as sour grapes.  Luers didn't make their schedule and ,yeah your right, not playing two of the top teams may cause people to disregard what they've done.  Make no mistake about it though, IF they beat Homestead this Fri (and that's a very BIG if) they fully have earned the right as SAC champs and to lay claim to that title.  I don't care about that they didn't play Carroll if they beat Homestead due to the fact that Homestead beat Snider, plain and simple.  In the end, if they win Friday, they did what they needed to do to claim the title, BUT I think we are heading to a 3 way tie if I'm being honest.

Is the NLC really holding Warsaw back?  Up until the Curtis years, Warsaw did not have a whole lot of success.  Would Warsaw benefit leaving a conference in which they can currently compete for a conference championship and leave for a hypothetical / or real conference toward Fort Wayne...I am just speaking on football.  If I were a player or parent, I wouldn't want to lose multiple regular season games a year...just to face the same schools in the playoffs and probably lose there as well.  Warsaw is having success on the gridiron right now, however, all schools go through a slump and I feel they would regret their decision in the long run.  I know people say, playing better competition throughout the year prepares a team for the playoffs...and that is true...however, that is only true if you are playing other schools than you face during the year. Just my two thoughts on the matter coming from someone whom would not like to see Warsaw leave the NLC as it is one of the best places to watch a game as they have hands down the best consession stands in the area...im talking to you guy who runs the grill!

Speaking of NLC, my DREAM conference for 4A would take Conference B and sub in NorthWood and Northridge in place of Southside and Wayne.   I think travel would be a hindrance but man that would be murderers row of a conference.

  15. With conference races heating up and there being clear signs of the rich staying rich and the weak staying weak, I figured I'd drop another re-alignment thread for Fort Wayne.  I know the SAC just re-aligned but there is also a lot of confusion and some disparity with that. So, for fun, this is my idea.

Conference A                              Conference B                     ACAC                         NECC (big)          NECC (small)

Carroll                                          Bishop Dwenger                Norwell                      Concordia            Busco

    Homestead                                  Leo                                     Heritage                    Dekalb                  Eastside

Snider                                           New Haven                       Woodlan                    Garrett                  Central Noble

Warsaw                                         East Noble                       Adams Central           Angola                  Fremont

Northside                                     Bishop Luers                    Belmont                     West Noble           Prairie Heights

Northrop                                      Wayne                               Blufton                        Lakeland              Blackhawk Christian

Huntington North                        Columbia City                  South Adams              Fairfield               Southern Wells

                                                         Southside                         Jay County

I know this doesn't make every conference strong top to bottom but I also think this line up would also work well with the other money sport (basketball). Purposely left Conference a with 7 teams to allow for 3 out of conference games against top teams from other parts of the state/state.  I think this strengthens the ACAC considerably and creates probably the toughest 4A conference in the state (Conference B).  Also keeps a version of the NECC that adds some strength and puts Blackhawk in a conference that they can grow into as they build the program.

If I'm being honest, I never took the NE8 seriously until this year. I think this conference is as strong as it's ever been. I love that NE8 teams have the opportunity to clash with the SAC in Weeks 1 & 2 now. I think that only makes the NE8 stronger moving forward. East Noble impressed me when they went up against Snider. Tonight I get a look at two more solid programs.

I agree....would be nice to see more NE8 teams pick up an SAC opponent in the coming years....cough, cough Columbia City, Dekalb, Norwell....Leo picks up Luers next after finishing it contract with Kokomo (funny how they drop a team that runs a similar offense that Sauder ran at Leo after that style offense beat them both years they played).  Would love to see Leo drop Angola and pick up a better quality team as the recent Angola games havent been very competitive (maybe a Wayne or Dwenger).

We will see.  I don’t think Dwenger has it either but you’re underestimating the advantage Dwenger has in the trenches.
Having said that, now is the time for the NE8 to pounce on Dwenger.  They won’t be down forever(unless this current coach stays forever) and even if the current staff stays on for a while, they have talent in upcoming classes that can carry them past most 4A schools regardless of their current leadership.

Could be some nice battles between BD and East Noble in the coming years as East Noble has some REALLY good talent coming up too.  Sectional 19 could become the premiere sectional in the north in a few years.

Especially with their talented seniors...tae tae being moved to qb will be a game changer..when the panthers moved that big ot to dt last week...genius move..

Moving Tae to QB will be a game changer against the likes of the SAC's B division teams but not Snider.  Snider can go athlete for athlete with North Side and you taking your best player and putting him in front of the Panthers entire box instead of putting him in front of your their DB will not be good.  Reminds me of Haydock in his Harding days moving Selwyn Lymon from WR to QB....made for some exciting games and eye popping numbers in 2005 but didn't equate to the kind of success North Side is looking for (State run).  Tae is NOT a QB, he's an athlete playing QB and the Panthers WILL devise a sound game plan to neutralize him.  Load the box and make him throw and you will see this "great idea" unravel rather quickly against Snider.

  19. This game will be huge for NE8 supremacy this year as well as a possible forcast for how things could shake up in the north for 4A.  New Haven and that offense is simply EXPLOSIVE.  Athletes all over the field and a QB in Williams that can threaten you with his legs as much as his arm along with a RB in Bates that has been superb making teams pay when they worry too much about slowing down Mylan Graham with 2 high bracket coverage.  Columbia City comes in as the defending NE8 and sectional champs from last year but they lost ALOT from that team, but they return Stratton Fuller who will go down as one of the greatest ever at Columbia City when its all said and done.  I look at it this was.....Columbia City does NOT have enough guys to cover all New Havens weapons and I'm not sure New Haven will be able to withstand the Eagles relentless rushing attack.  I'm expecting  minimum of 4-5 BIG plays in this game and I think 3-4 of those will be by the Bulldogs.  New Haven has lined up against the FAR better schedule so far with Leo and Luers while the Eagles schedule has been about as soft as it can be.  Common opponent being Dekalb with CC winning 49-7 and NH winning 28-28 BUT the New Haven game was 42-7 at half when the Dogs completely took their foot off the pedal and Dekalb got back into the game.  This game DOES deserve more interest but lets be honest....if its not the SAC, you dont get alot of clicks on here as it pertains to football in the Fort Wayne area, sad  but true.  With all that being said, I believe this game is for the NE8 title this year as if New Haven wins, they will go unblemished in the regular season (and yes I know they still have a date with East Noble that cannot be overlooked) and if Columbia City wins, they still have dates with Leo and East Noble left SOOOOO  I'm saying New Haven 35 Columbia City 24

Snider is North Side's Super Bowl. They play on another level when they get a crack at the Panthers.

Braunte is playing qb? I must have missed that!

He will be a sat machine the rest of their schedule  since they have the "weak" part of their schedule coming up.  Dates with Luers and Wayne will test them and as soon as someone loads the box and forces him to throw they will run into trouble.  They will be done once they run into Snider as they will get THOROUGHLY outcoached in every aspect of the game.  So in short, I don't think Tae should be in ANY Mr Football conversation......Especially playing in the same area as Mylan.  Seen both in person and Mylan is CLEARLY the better player all around.

Never said it didn't matter...but the difference between grass and turf is minmial.

Also, anyone willing to debate me on the fact that even IF I concede that speed could be a neutralizer that Ringer of East Central is still faster than anyone New Haven (or anyone else in this discussion) would put on the field?

    https://indiana.tfrrs.org/athletes/8458858/East_Central/Josh_Ringer.html

I, without any hesitation or doubt, would say Graham is faster, but he is probably the only one of New Havens bevy of athletes that is.
