  1. Such an innovative defensive scheme 😂 I think most of us would take a literal 12th man any day
  2. Every matchup will probably be pretty tough this week but I think every team stands a chance if they play well. You know the coaching staffs for all three have been preaching the value of preparation and toughness this week. Trader's Point @ North Vermillion- The NV coaching staff will have the Falcons ready to go and they have a pretty solid team up there anchored by their senior big man. I think NV will pull this one off in a close one. 28-24 Park Tudor @ Fountain Central- FC may be one of the best 4 win teams out there but I just don't think the Mustangs will be able to keep up when the clock strikes 0:00. They'll hang in there but will just be outmanned in the end. 38-28 PT Riverton Parke @ Covenant Christian (played at Danville)- I really think this one could be the one that is the most variable. Could RP pull it together play to their capabilities and win by two scores? Yup, I could see it, I truly don't think they've played to their full potential yet. Could CC come out and intimidate the Panthers because it's a private Indy school and win by a few scores? Yes it could happen, I don't see it playing out this way but there's always a chance with a program that's still building to their full potential. Then there's the most likely choice, RP grounds, pounds, and controls the clock and CC throws and scores and this game is tight and comes down to the wire. Guess I should pick this one instead of just theorizing the possibilities. RP shows they belong in the conversation and are here to stick around as a player. They run it, eat clock up, make some plays defensively, and play their most cohesive game of the year. 36-21 RP. They get to host another sectional championship game against in all likelihood what's probably the best team in 1A.
  3. South Vermillion @ Attica- Oh what a shame that the big fish came up short. Really thought they had the potential to be the greatest team to ever come out of the WRC... Look for them to take it easy here in an attempt to rest up only to get beat by 40 in another week's time. SV scores 35 in a quarter and plays the JV the rest of the game. 52-6 SV Riverton Parke @ Covington- Covington will throw a bit and break a couple but it won't even come close to being enough to bulldoze the Panther Wagon. RP buckles down, does what they do, and run away with the victory. RP will get three guys over 100yds on the ground and might mess around and throw a TD or two. Apparently RP can kick now? Maybe they'll try a field goal. 45-18 RP Rockville Parke Heritage @ Fountain Central- The Rox Wolves got banged up last Friday to add injury to insult. I don't think this will ever be close. Herbie and Stangs end WRC play on a high. 63-13 FC North Vermillion @ Seeger- Could the Falcons give SV a half title and upset the Patriots. Sure, I never count them out with their staff and corn fed toughness but I think the big boys from wind country fought too hard last week to give up a sole conference title. I think the DT for NV will end up with another pick but it won't change the course of the game. This one will be close but Seeger will get some breathing room late. 35-24 Seeger for the sole WRC title.
  4. In my opinion, a lot of it comes down to coaching. Not necessarily the ability of the coaching staff or how intelligent they are but the willingness of a staff to actually play to the strengths of their personnel. I don't think SV has ran a system that fits their athletes for a good while to find success in the tournament. You can outmatch smaller schools and athletes off pure size and talent but unless you can outscheme teams you don't find real success. Just my opinion though, I'm far from an expert.
  5. No way they'd ever go either. They know they have a hard time competing with anyone of a similar size.
  6. SV was in the WIC already and couldn't hang. Begged and pleaded to come back to the WRC to be the big fish in the small pond. I don't see them giving up their small pond again. When you look at the odds of an SV Sectional Title, especially in football (and basically anything but baseball), it's virtually nonexistent.
  7. Attica @ Covington- Attica probably missed their opportunity to pick up a win when they played Rockville Parke Heritage, if there was a shot that was it. Covington has had some ups but mostly downs this season and almost lost to the Rox Wolves. Attica never gives up and those kids deserve all the credit out there for that, unfortunately sometimes a never say die attitude can't carry you. Covington wins easily due to having more players. 35-12 Covington Fountain Central @ North Vermillion- Props to FC for hanging around for awhile against world beater SV (at least until Sectionals roll around). Should be a heck of a matchup here with the HoFer and a team with pedigree and determination that has starting getting some AP votes. This will be tight and a fight till the end. North Vermillion has a little more in the tank than the Herb Horses and the no huddle offense wears them down. NV 28-22 Seeger @ South Vermillion- If Seeger is healthy this will be a dog fight for the Conference Title. SV doesn't have a whole lot of those to rest on their laurels and be complacent, I think that will drive them throughout this matchup. SV is the only team in the conference with the size to hold their own against the big hosses up there in corn country and I think they'll outlast the Patriots here. Give me the big fish in a small pond to win the Conference Title. SV 21-18 Rockville Parke Heritage @ Riverton Parke- The Parke County Championship is so important it had to be played on a Saturday evening. Saturday games galore for the Panthers this season, so they should be prepared for this by now. Rough season thus far for the Rox Wolves even if they can muster getting fired up to play their hated county counterpart I don't really think it'll matter, they just aren't good this year and will struggle to stop the Panther attack however it manifests come game time. RP will take the opportunity anytime they can to take it to a Rockville Parke Heritage squad (and Parke Heritage does the same to RP when they can, in county matchups do mean something). RP tries for the shutout but doesn't quite get there. 80-8 RP.
  8. @Lucy Draper where have you been? Paul and I have been missing your picks!
  9. Anyway here's Week 7 North Vermillion @ Parke Heritage- NV is at least decent and well coached. Sarcasm aside, their state team obliterates SV 70-6 looking like an RP Jr High Score. PH is not good. I don't think this is ever close but it won't be a complete blowout. NV 28-6 Riverton Parke @ Attica- Panthers looked bad last week with the whole conference watching. I do think they are actually improved just not "there" yet, must be them playing in the Terre Haute Youth League or something that has made them step up their game. Early in the season I wasn't convinced Attica would still be playing games at this point in the season, not easy to go out there and get beat up on every week. RP wins big even if they are banged up, I think they'll show some mercy and play some young kids. RP 41-6. Seeger @ Covington- Even if Seeger is a bit banged up I just don't think that Covington can hang around for very long. Getting in a dog fight with PH isn't a good thing post closing the transfer portal. Patriots pitch a shutout and it'll be a showdown with the Cats with conference on the line. South Vermillion @ Fountain Central- Wildcats not so Mild last week. Thought RP might give them a little more of a fight but RP may have another year or two to truly be "there" consistently. I don't think that FC has the athletes to hang around but maybe Herbie can scheme enough and work the officials to stay in it. Sometimes coaching matters and I do think FC is better coached. Coaching won't matter here. SV 49-19.
  10. Hard disagree. Between PH last year and SV this year, I think those two teams are the most dominant forces that this conference has ever seen. Powerhouse is the most applicable word, especially for SV this year. I think this year's SV would wipe the floor with last year's PH squad then that PH squad would run circles around the NV state team. I think there's a lot of undervaluation of the athletes we're watching grace our presence right now and the quality coaching jobs that were at PH last year and the stellar program that SV has built.
  11. SV is just a powerhouse. Maybe the most dominant team the conference has ever seen. Incredibly coached and you'll never find a more humble program.
  12. Well the rumor mill in North Country Parke has been spinning two narratives: 1. That with the season going how it is that has to be the call, just be done and finished, call it a career. 2. This has all been an elaborate plan to return to Rockville and do what Moore couldn't, get more than a sectional. He'd be like a dang ole majestic phoenix rising from the ashes of a smoldering program scared to fade into the bottom of the conference talk.
  13. Attica @ North Vermilion- Pretty straight forward here, NV decent and angry vs Attica who is not very good. NV gets on track and plays some youngsters. NV 44-6 Covington @ Parke Heritage- To use a @Ballhawk coined phrase give me some "Beef House Speed." I don't think PH is very good (as someone said last week imagine if they weren't consolidated). Covington has more athletes. I'll continue with my prediction from last week that the Rox Wolves don't score what they did against Attica the rest of the season combined. Covington 54-6 Fountain Central @ Seeger- Herbie and the Stangs will play tough for a while, too good a coach not to go down swinging especially at a former program. Unfortunately for FC the retirement tour gets another L and Seeger overpowers the Mustangs. Seeger 44-22 Riverton Parke @ South Vermilion- The Saturday matinee matchup. SV has athletes aplenty. RP fought hard and picked up a quality win against a quality opponent last week in the battle of the tenderloins (heard next year the winner gets a gold plated Mecca Tavern 'groin). The question is can RP make the conference title race a question and do they have the guys to compete against the 2A's. I think RP hangs tough, hangs around, and shows they can compete week in and week out. Give me a Saturday upset and an actual race for the conference title. RP grounds and pounds and manages to slow down the Cats attack. Heard it here first a 10 minute drive to close out the 4th Quarter and give the Panthers the W. RP 22-21
  14. Must not have stayed for whole game. Probably could’ve learned a lil somethin somethin. Was enjoying a delicious tenderloin and next thing I knew the clock had done ticked down.
  15. Week 1 in 2023 Rockville Parke Heritage 12 Grand Valley Christians (Amish) 42 You heard it here first folks.
  16. Covington @ South Vermillion - Wildcats aren't as mild as in years past. Covington still slings it just not like they did last year. Mildcats might just be benefiting a little from the big fish in a small pond effect. SV rolls 42-6 Fountain Central @ Attica - FC is better than they've shown so far and they have a HOF coach, sometimes that matters. Attica unfortunately become the punching bag of the WRC. FC and the HOFer take care of business early and play some youngsters late. FC 45-6 North Vermillion @ Riverton Parke - Falcons are well coached and have to be a little disheartened by their performance last week against big brother. That can make them dangerous. The Panthers looked a little lost against Seeger. Maybe the windmills up there distracted them? I think both these teams regroup and refocus to make this the Game of the Week. RP grounds, pounds, and repeats to get back on track and grind out a HoCo W. RP 22-20 in OT Rockville Parke Heritage at Seeger - The Rox Wolves got their W last week and scored aplenty while doing it. Not sure they'll score that many points the rest of the season. The Patriots, by all accounts, Rick James slapped the Panthers and weren't sorry about it. Seeger stays on track and disembowels the Wolves. Seeger 56-6
  17. Covington @ Fountain Central- FC probably a little upset after a loss to the Panthers last week. They'll want to separate themselves from the bottom of the conference. Close game with a lot of flags coming from FC line judge to help with the W. FC 20-14. Parke Heritage @ Attica- Battle for the bottom. What I would absolutely love to happen is an Attica W. Unfortunately, they won't get one here. PH 26-14. Riverton Parke @ Seeger- RP had a tough fought W last week against a fiesty FC team with a HOF coach. Seeger took out their early season frustrations on Attica. I think this will be a good game to watch. RP controls the clock, runs the rock, and knocks off Seeger in a tough matchup. RP stays in the hunt another week. RP 28-20. South Vermillion @ North Vermillion- Clash of the County and maybe for the conference title. SV has shown the ability to run and gun with different kids. NV is well coached, will be well prepared, and will hang tough but run out of steam late. SV puts up a couple late scores and get a Vermillion County Championship. SV 34-22
  18. Fountain Central @ Riverton Parke- FC seems to be playing iron man football and RP might actually have some depth this season. RP Grounds, Pounds, and Repeats. Maybe we see someone other than the bell cow get going? If that happens could RP be dangerous down the stretch? As with any other RP game no passing allowed for RP. They must've ripped those pages right out of the playbook. RP 30-14. North Vermilion @ Covington- NV will be in a bad mood after a tough week (expected but still hard to take) against Linton. NV will want to show they aren't a punching bag. Heard Covington's numbers are down. This all makes it a bad combination for the Trojans. Cue the running clock NV 56-20 Seeger @ Attica- Seeger probably a bit stunned to start 0-2. They'll take it out on the Ramblers. Seeger 40-0 South Vermillion @ Rockville Parke Heritage- PH is in trouble with their QB off to Bama. Could they go from State contenders to a possible winless season? What a fall that would be for the Rox Wolves. SV runs all night, throws some bombs, fills the stat sheet, and walks away looking like they could win the conference. SV 60-6
  19. "Beef House Speed" is my go to phrase. Credit where credit is due there. I'd buy the T-shirt.
  20. Attica at Tri County- T's & P's for Attica, them as competition makes things more interesting in the WRC but probably don't get a W here or all season. TC 32-12. Fountain Central at Crawfordsville- Probably a tough year for both programs. Might be time for the FC coach to saddle up ride off into the football sunset. C-Ville 18-14. Linton at North Vermilion- Miners continue to feast on WRC teams 44-18 and it's never close. Seeger at Benton Central- Could Seeger be the class of the conference? Tune in in weeks 3-9 to find out, BC 24-23. South Newton at Covington- Covington probably has a few more athletes than a rebuilding South Newt can handle. South Newt can't handle that Beef House Speed, Covington 35-21. South Vermilion at Sullivan- Battle of the Gold Pride chant. Sullivan shuts down the run and forces SV to pass. Gets ugly for the Kittens. Sullivan 44-12. West Vigo at The Woofs- Wolves continue to struggle against a rebuilding WV but keep it close. Could this be a sign of things to come for the future of PH. Vikings tame the Wolves, 28-18. Grand Valley Christians at Riverton Parke- Is GVC good? Are they terrible? Only God knows, but word is they are ranked nationally. RP won ugly from all reports though against a 3A program. RP may not have a pass in their playbook and literally don't call a pass to come away with a 21-6 win.
