Per the Warren Central Athletics website, they have 2 Assistant AD's, which is pretty substantial these days. I'd be curious to see how many 6A schools have an AD and 2 Asst. ADs. My best guess would be those large schools (Carmel, Penn, North Central, Ben Davis, Fishers, HSE) as the likeliest candidates, but shoot, up until like 6 years or so ago, Warsaw only had a single AD.

Columbus North has an AD and 2 assistant ADs.  One of the assistant ADs is the head football coach.

That’s a lot of scrimmages. How many practices is that? Isn’t the rule only 12? How do teams get things in if they scrimmage that many times with only 12 practices?

Those weren't individual days for each scrimmage.  Teams scrimmage more than one team at a time.  It's also not tackle.  They do 7v7 and 11v11.  7v7 the whistle is blown with one hand touch while the whistle is general blown when the defender has their arms around the offensive player for 11v11.

I’d love to have Columbus North but they think they’re above the HHC. I guess they’d better hope Conference Indiana doesn’t finally fall through or they might actually have to tuck their tails between their legs and come knocking at the HHC’s door.

I don't think that Conference Indiana will fall through anytime soon.  One of the positives that has come out of a smaller conference is that the team is able to schedule games against teams like Roncalli, Bishop Chatard, Decatur Central, Gibson Southern (Brady Allen years), and Cathedral.  The coaching staff at Columbus North has been trying to schedule tougher competition to prepare the team for post season.  It's challenging being one of the smallest 6A schools in the state.

Our coaches increased the level of competition to our preseason scrimmage schedule.  We faced Whiteland (Runner up), West Lafayette, Peoria High (Illinois Runner Up), Warren Central, Pike, Fishers, Mount Vernon.

Again, I believe the coaching staff's focus has been to prepare for the big juggernaut schools/programs that we end up facing in the post season.  With Center Grove being in our sectional our kids have to get used to playing that type of program.

Is the Columbus PAL still leading the youth efforts?  Would love to see them back in the IEFA.

There are two youth football programs in Columbus (Bartholomew County Bears and PAAL).  PAAL is a intramural league and the Bears are in a conference with other youth teams like Beechgrove, Triton Central, Southport, Edinburgh, Brown County, Indian Creek, & Shelbyville.

  5. My son was throwing with a couple of Seymour receivers last weekend and they were both hard working and talented.  Kyle and Josh(?) I believe?

Seymour also has Jaylan Johnson, who could be a top receiver in the state this upcoming season.  I'm not sure how good their QB is but if Seymour can pass the ball then these three could cause some serious problems for teams.

  6. This rivalry game is one the city of Columbus always looks forward to! ESPN has even featured this rivalry in 2011.  This year's crosstown rivalry will take place at Columbus East in Stafford Field on August 25th.  The field is currently having some new stands on the East side of the field.  This game is always packed with loyal fans and energetic student sections.

The last 5 years North has won 4 times in those meetings.  The past two years North has won convincingly (28-0 in 2021, 39-6 in 2022).  However, the Bulldogs of North look to be very young this year with a very small senior class.  East's senior class is small as well but has North outnumbered in that area.  Both teams scrimmage tough teams to prepare for the upcoming season.  Both teams will be looking to earn bragging rights for 2023.

    Who is excited?!

Decatur Central – It’s been said by the Indy fan base that this growing community will produce solid football teams for years to come. It appears they lose too much from a year ago for me to have them any higher than the 5 spot.

Who all did they lose?  I thought they have a lot of young talent from last year.

They only beat BNL 28-14 the first time. That’s why I said “Upset.” Nobody here thinks BNL is the favorite.

No worries Fkfootball.  I was just saying how I think that game will go.  Martinsville has been progressing with a tougher schedule than BNL.  Come tournament time, strength of schedule, tends to expose teams that had a soft schedule.  Like Charlestown is 10-0 but I would put my money on HH, who has a much worse record.  HH plays tougher opponents.

    Upsets are always exciting though!

Solid in basketball with D1 caliber players.  3 baseball sectionals in the last 20 years. Wrestling shares 0 athletes with football. Swimming….country club. Track has Lanesville in its sectional dude.

Maybe that’s the bigger issue that FC needs to figure out. Why can’t they share athletes who can help multiple sports? Too much specialization. East has football stars on their basketball and baseball teams. Doesn’t happen at FC.

Agree with @Impartial_Observer. If you’ve got beef, if you’ve got ties to the program, if you’ve got coaching experience, call the admins and let them know. Being a keyboard warrior and never revealing who are you, hiding behind the screen and blasting coaches who give countless hours to their school, rubs all of us the wrong way.

The Kessinger's play.  Vince Kessinger was a semi-state qualifier in wrestling last year.  Not sure if he plays varsity or JV though.  Little brother Tony is an 8th grader that plays football and wrestles.  They are hard nosed kids.

I've found that most football programs we have been to didn't like sharing football players with the wrestling team.  That should change some at Columbus North as the new HC has a step-son that wrestles.  My son went to Fargo (Freestyle Nationals) in July and they didn't give him any grief, which we really appreciated.

I like seeing football and wrestling working together.  The off-season can be challenging because they share, essentially, the same off-season.

You’ve got my attention. I graduated with Drew Kiel. I remember all the hype he and my other classmates got in middle school as they went unbeaten in 7th and 8th grade. If Highland Hills is comparable then that’s definitely something to take note of.

Dusty works with my son.  The Kiels are top notch.  I haven't met Drew.  3 brothers who were all D1 QB's.  That's really rare and impressive.

A friend of mine that coaches at Floyd Central says that the Freshman team is really good.  If the MS has some good kids, then Floyd could be a team to watch in a few years.

Thanks for sharing. I can totally understand why the East AD/Admin would ride with Gaddis' staff considering the success they were a part of. Though it sounds like they would have been better off starting fresh with an outside viewpoint.

Regarding talent, can kids in the East/North school district choose their HS or is it hard to enroll at East if you live in North's boundaries?

As a new person to Columbus, I too thought that the best move for East would have been to hire a prospective, younger coach to take the program to the next level.  It's hard to fill the shoes of such an accomplished coach as Gaddis.  Bringing a new coach into the program may have given hope for a rebuild?  North has won the hearts and minds of young/talented players who have bought into a program on the rise, playing a tough schedule in the biggest class of Indiana football.

Logan Haston has brought some energy and renewed vision to the program at North as well.  This being on a firm foundation built by Tim Bless.

They can choose. North definitely has a better reputation in regards to academics and athletics. You can walk into that school and just tell that they’re the school with more money. Unfortunately, most kids in Bartholomew County these days would rather go there for football even if it means they won’t make it out of sectionals because of Center Grove.

North has had 20+ football players in the past 3 years go on to play college football from NAIA to D1.  I am sure that has had something to do with it.  Plus the last 6 of 7 games in the rivalry series have been won by North.  I would rather win a state championship but it puts in perspective how big that game is to those in the town.

In the past North's academics were definitely better than East's.  Now there isn't much difference as far as a whole.  North's advanced education opportunities are probably what set's the schools apart.
