  1. Coaches,

We would love for your team to consider competing in our annual linemen challenge here at Lafayette Jeff.  We are planning to hold it Saturday, July 20th starting at 9am. This event is a great morning for the big guys. No footballs...all attention on them...  just moving, pushing, pulling, and flipping heavy objects as fast as you can!

Our event last year was our biggest and most competitive year yet.  We have been fortunate to have highly successful and competitive teams compete here over the years, including Ben Davis, Lawrence North, Fishers, Noblesville, Brownsburg, Merrillville, Harrison, McCutcheon, Kokomo, Delta, Eastbrook, Twin Lakes, North Judson, Whiting, Rensselaer, Lapel, North Putnam, and South Putnam among others.  The cost that we charge will pay for the T-Shirts for each kid/each coach that is in attendance, as well as the awards.  We would love for you to bring multiple 5-man teams, if you are able to field more than one competitive team.  Please let me know if you are in and how many teams that you plan to enter.  Note: We will be capping the event with 24, 5-man teams.

    Additional Info:
    • $70 each for 1 Linemen Challenge Team (Multiple Teams Encouraged – 2 teams - $140.00)
      • LB/TE’s can be used if needing to fill a spot or two!
    • Please make all checks payable to: Lafayette Jeff Football
    • AT LEAST ONE COACH per Lineman Team should accompany the team throughout the competition.    Example: If you bring 10 linemen (two teams), then you MUST bring 2 coaches (one coach/team).

If interested, please contact me at pshanley@lsc.k12.in.us   - word document with all information is attached.

Supposedly it was enrollment gap, geography, and competitive imbalance.  Realistically two of those make no sense at all as Jeff is situated between Harrison and McCutcheon geographically and Jeff is currently larger than both McCutcheon and Harrison.  Competitive imbalance because Harrison wins a lot of country club sports like tennis and wins the NCC all sports titles, but when it comes to the mainstream sports there's little dominance by Harrison that also doesn't show up in the Jeff history too.  See post below for more details, at least through 2020, on the competitive balance claim ... especially taking into account that Jeff was one of the schools voting out Harrison.  In essence Jeff is saying in that vote that 1) they can't compete with Harrison or 2) they want to have the inside track to easy football victories again ... because they sure can't be saying that Harrison and McCutcheon are too far away and that Harrison and McCutcheon are too big.

Not complaining about enrollment. Simply stating that what you were saying about enrollment is no longer true. We have been in 6A for seven years and for us to have post-season success, we will have to beat teams that have 1,000+ more kids than us.  Did the eastern NCC schools have an issue with enrollment of HHS/McC? Not sure. Ask them. It is not my position to speak further on the “why” behind Jeff’s vote in favor of these changes.  I can tell you that searching for regular season wins in football had absolutely nothing to do with it.  I can assure you that we will continue to find/seek the best teams that we can play during the regular season in order to prepare ourselves to be at our best for the playoffs. It is my hope that HHS/McC remain on our schedule in football regular season moving forward.

Foxbat:  I can assure you that having "the inside track" for NCC/regular seasons victories in football had absolutely nothing to do with Jeff being part of the 70% to vote TSC out of the NCC.  Additionally, your continued posts stating that Jeff is the largest school in the county is not factual. Look up the Fall 2022 ADM enrollment numbers. HHS has officially surpassed Jeff.  Look for Jeff to be hanging out in the range of 1,980-2,090 students moving forward. HHS enrollment growth or the highly competitive games dating back to 2017 had absolutely nothing to do with why we are where we are today.

It is my hope that those within the Lafayette community will continue to see Jeff/HHS/McC continue to play each other on the gridiron in the future.  It is unfortunate we are we are. However, the kids and the communities deserve to be part of those games.

Cathedral struggled with Penn for 1 half (missing several players like their top TE (Wooten) and RB (Johnson) who just ran for 226 yards against CG). Cathedral still dismantled Penn 35-21. Jefferson vs Cathedral and Jefferson vs Carroll both teams were healthy. The Final score of Carroll vs Jeff 21-20 and Jeff had the ball 3rd and goal from the 2 in the middle of the 4th, and then even got another shot. The Penn Cathedral game was never in doubt in the 2nd half.

I normally just stick to reading on this board.  But this is not factual at all.  Our team was much different as it relates to personnel from Week 1 vs. Week 12.  Without a doubt, playing Cathedral Week 1 exposed areas where we had to drastically improve in order to be playing good football come November.  Congrats to both Carroll and Center Grove on great seasons.  Looking forward to a great match-up on Friday.

  8. Lafayette Jeff has an immediate opening on the varsity defensive staff.  Our current teaching openings at Jeff are SPED & Math. Additionally, we have a Language Arts opening at our Middle School.  Interested applicants should send their resume/references to HC Pat Shanley at pshanley@lsc.k12.in.us and/or call me at 219-863-2527.

  9. Our previous Jr. High Head Coach will be available through the month of June to assist with the transition, if needed.  Minority candidates are encouraged to apply.  Interested candidates should send a letter of interest, resume, and references to Head Coach Pat Shanley at pshanley@lsc.k12.in.us as soon as possible.
