  9. Coaches, I hope that each of you are doing well. I am reaching out to let you know that we have finalized a date for our 2021 Jeff Linemen Challenge. We would love for you to once again consider competing in our annual linemen challenge here at Lafayette Jeff when mapping out what your summer is going to look like. We are planning to hold it Saturday, July 17th starting at 9am. It has always been a great morning for the big guys, no footballs...all attention on them... just moving, pushing, pulling, and flipping heavy objects as fast as you can! Our last event in 2019 was our biggest and best year yet. We had 26, 5-man teams competing...130 kids getting after it! We would love to continue to grow this thing to be even bigger! Ben Davis, Lawrence North, Noblesville, Merrillville, Brownsburg, Kokomo, Harrison, Delta, Twin Lakes, Whiting, Rensselaer, among others, are all teams that were either here last year or have previously competed. The cost that we charge will pay for T-Shirts for each kid/coach in attendance. We would love for you to bring multiple 5-man teams. Please let me know if you are in and how many teams you plan to enter. Of note: $50 each for 1 Linemen Challenge Team (Multiple Teams Encouraged – 2 teams - $100.00) LB/TE’s can be used if needing to fill a spot or two! Please make all checks payable to: Lafayette Jeff Football AT LEAST ONE COACH per Lineman Team should accompany the team throughout the competition. Example: If you bring 10 lineman, you MUST bring 2 coaches If interested, please contact me at pshanley@lsc.k12.in.us - word document with all information is attached. 2021 Lafayette Jeff Lineman Challenge.docx

  11. As someone has already mentioned, many are compensated (I am sure competitively) for those extracurriculars that you mentioned and likely have a “perk” of additional prep periods as well. I was not insinuating more or less effort, simply stating that it is a big undertaking to lead programs of that size/magnitude and doing what it takes to be highly effective at it. I am sure these schools understand the benefit and importance of education based athletics. They also likely understand the importance of having someone who is highly qualified leading their football program, along with the positive impact that a successful fall season can have on their community, school, etc.
  12. Simply put, I would guess that they are being compensated for time spent outside of the classroom with their coaching stipends. I can guarantee that a well ran strength program reaches far beyond the walls of the weight room itself. The time that it takes to plan, the daily set-up, the daily break down, and the professional development of a highly effective strength coach could and should compare to that of a highly effective classroom teacher. The difference of the two, in my opinion, would be the time that it takes to run a highly effective football program 365 days a year. I would also say that for programs/coaches that are interested in developing all of their student-athletes, the football coach/strength coach is not sitting on a computer while the student-athletes train. That film work is likely done late at night, after his own kids have gone to bed. I applaud the school districts who competitively compensate these coaches, who are managing programs of 125-175 student-athletes, for the time and effort that they spend outside of the school to effectively manage their programs!
