Not meaning to point out any one kid but there needs to be some adjustments at QB.  Way, way too many turnovers and looks like it has blown his confidence up.  Even to the point of effecting his punting.  He was much better the little he played last year.  Poor play calling doesnt help.  3rd and long and call a pass play behind the line of scrimmage.  Happens many times a game.  Not taking 3 at the end of the half with a short field goal with a very good kicker.  However it goes down though will still be there rooting them on but looks like a long year.

Here is my take. The coaches don’t have a clue as to what they have at QB. He is not a scrambler (although he is mobile enough to get away from pressure), but is a step into pocket passer.

Watch him. When he actually steps into his passes, they are on point. However, most of the time he is throwing on the run and off of his back foot. When he does that his passes sail resulting in the bad turnovers and badly overthrown receivers. (Also, he really needs to quit locking in on one receiver. I know where he is throwing it from across the field, so any defender paying attention would know the same.)

I believe that the offense needs to be constructed more along the lines of what the Colts did when Manning was QB. One back pro sets doing stretch runs and play actions bootlegs, but basically keeping him standing tall in the pocket and throwing the ball down the field.

Case Study:  SIAC Memorial 3A (about 600 kids) vs Castle 5A (almost 6A) (about 1200 kids).  These two schools many years battle it out for the conference all sports champion in both boys and girls sports.  Are the Memorial student athletes working twice as hard?  Are the Coaches twice as good?  Could it be that both schools have roughly the same number of quality success driven student athletes in the hallways?  What are the percentages of students from each school that participate in extracurricular activities (athletic and non-athletic).  How many of the 1200 at Castle participate in absolutely nothing?  I see here all the time how much "money" the Newburgh area has for sports....yet these two institutions are relatively equal in term of athletic performance.  Is enrollment alone the best way to classify these schools?

Wow. When did Reitz and Harrison get more kids than Castle? I mean Reitz is at almost 1400, and Harrison is at almost 1300. Wouldn’t that make them almost 6A too?

Fact checking. Only takes a minute, saves a lot of embarrassment.

Castle has over 1900 (almost 2000) students for those who would want to know.

You are correct, Sir!  My apologies!! He is an awful coach. I thought he went twice. Now I can see why people were not happy with him 🤪

First, I was merely correcting an incorrect statement through use of facts. I have not said a word about any previous or present coach at RHS. Now, if you wish to ask my opinion on the matter, I have not been thrilled with either of the past two hires that the EVSC has made for coach at RHS. But that is me, and I continue to go out every weekend to back the boys in blue, just like I did before I was in school, and during my days in school there.

At at the end of the day, most Reitz fans are spoiled. And if you are wanting to coach there, you do have to have thick skin. But don’t try to pretend that our fan base is the only one with whackadoo fans. It’s like that everywhere. And don’t classify all fans in that category. They are the vocal minority.

Thanks. And what exactly is a ‘screagle’?

Facts- 63 wins in 5 years , 3 sectorial titles, 2 trips to LOS, 1 state title, and 1 very sour dad.  Those are facts.  I could be wrong but the coach he replaced had 63 wins in 6 seasons?

One trip to LOS. Lost in sectionals in 2008 and 2011, lost in regionals in 2012, lost in semi state in 2010, won it all in 2009. That’s only one trip.

But I think you have it right.  Valpo will move to 5A in 2019 (although they also have enough TSF points to remain in 6A, which is interesting).  Consolidated Elkhart will move to 6A in 2020.  Which will kick Zionsville to 5A in 2020.

Valpo was 6A because of enrollment, not due to TSF. So, with Snider remaining up due to points accrued, Valpo would be the first team to drop to 5A because they are the smallest 6A school by enrollment, but not the smallest in 6A. (Columbus East moves up due to TSF, and now Snider remains up due to TSF.)

Sounds like Bville based there whole decision on football because thry cant hang with the SIAC. I really thought they were going in the right direction when they hired their new coach a couple years but I was wrong. They are going backwards instead of trying to get better. Good luck in the PAC and I am glad you didnt join the SIAC. We want teams that know the can win. That article made Bville football program look really bad. Just my opinion.

Finally, something we can agree on. Boonville’s AD just made them look like a joke. As he said, they had their best season in 15-20 years, and presumably the kids are excited to be out there and build off of it, and all of a sudden, your AD says that you can’t compete with the BOTTOM of the conference they are considering joining? What is he telling those kids, and future generations? Have to say, if I am a parent in Boonville, I might be looking for other options. I mean, what happens if they can’t win in the big school division of the PAC? Petition to join the small school division?

i understand where he is coming from on the whole students not playing because they can’t win. But how many students now won’t play because the staff doesn’t believe in them?

Oh, and for the record, all time, Boonville is 41-133 against teams currently in the SIAC. And 33-87 against the two newest members coming in.

Once again if you think the SIAC went looking for Lincoln your crazy. Jasper needed another team to join with them when they were turned down and Lincoln was the team they called and they turned in the psperwork first. Once again I am a football guy all the way snd I can care less about the other sports but I actually think if the PAC does not require crossover games GS and HH will be in a better place with being able to schedule tougher teams if they choose where neither Jasper or Lincoln will make Reitz, Castle etc better

Well, since this hasn’t been asked, what would your proposed divisions been if Boonville and GS had been added as well?

As someone who has a substantial amount of both....Sandy's is better than Bobe's.   Congrats to the SIAC for obtaining two historic programs rich in tradition.  I think the Jasper Castle football game will have some atmosphere to it....not sure why just a gut feeling.  Also, tons of respect for these two schools purposely putting themselves in situations across most sports where they will have to complete at a higher level than they are historically accustomed to.  I think this demonstrates a certain amount of faith in their communities to step up to meet the challenge.

Not sure on other sports, but I know that the middle school programs play in the same league and it is an intense game whether it is Castle North or South playing Jasper.

Dont believe Jasper is the question here they were a no brainer. Think this has turned into more the debate between Lincoln and GS

Lincoln. Jasper’s biggest rival. In a conference that is falling apart in front of everyone’s eyes. Uncertain future if they stay, but willing to step up and play “the big boys” unlike another that has been discussed here. Makes sense.

Gibson Southern. No affiliation with Jasper in football. Conference is stable and strong. Showed no inclination of wanting to move until the last hour.

I personally could care less which school the SIAC took with Jasper. I like both schools that were mentioned here. So to me, I’ll go to Lincoln and Jasper when Reitz has games there, and you know what? I won’t gripe about them being brought into the conference. I am ok with driving an hour to see a game. Heck, been doing it for a very long time, and won’t be stopping anytime soon.

I believe the SIAC wants and thought they had 12 teams, why else would they have changed their bylaws from a 10 school cap to a 12 school cap. That right there tells you there were 4 additions at some point in the process.

No one has denied that there was going to be four. But Boonville decided what they felt was best for them was to pass on joining the SIAC. And while that was bad for Gibson Southern, Boonville believes it was good for them.

I think there is a much greater chance of the SIAC adding 1 school than adding 2.  Adding 2 would mean the 5 EVSC schools would no longer have majority control of the conference.

It is two or none because they do not want the fiasco of mid and late season non con games because a team can’t play a conference game every week because of an odd number of teams in the league.

  12. My guess at 4A:

17-ECC, Gary West, Morton, Gavit, Highland, Griffith, Lowell, Hobart

18-Clay, St. Joe, Riley, New Prarie, Plymouth, NorthWood, Culver, Kankakee Valley

19 or 20-East Noble, Angola, DeKalb, Leo, Wayne, South, New Haven, Northridge

19 or 20-Logansport, Huntington North, Mississinewa, Marion, Jay County, Columbia City, Wawasee, Delta

21-Western, Lebanon, Frankfort, Shortridge, Cathedral, Crispus Attucks, Mooresville, Martinsville

22-Greenfield-Central, Beech Grove, Roncalli, Greenwood, New Castle, Muncie Central, Mt. Vernon, Pendleton Heights

23-Richmond, Connersville, East Central, South Dearborn, Jennings County, Madison, Silver Creek, Shelbyville

24- Ev. Reitz, Ev. Central, Ev. Harrison, Ev. Memorial, Boonville, Jasper, Northview

made more sense to send Northview south than Silver Creek west. Plus, this splits Cathedral and Roncalli. (I know. Pipe dream that won’t happen, but it makes a lot of sense on the map.)

I know it’s a dream but SIAC teams  and the PAC teams should figure out a way to play at beginning of the year. Could you imagine what Reitz Bowl would look like on a Friday and Saturday with top teams from each conference playing?  Passionate fan bases that just enjoy football and friendship.

Are we talking the current version of the PAC, or are we talking the proposed version of the Big 8/PAC? There is a reason I ask. If in the current, outside of GS, HH, and SR, are there any other games that would draw any interest?

Could you imagine a North/TC, Castle/SS, Reitz/PC, Harrison/NP, or Bosse/FP. Nothing against any of these games, but I can’t see most of these games drawing much interest. The teams that people would want to see are GS, HH, and SR. Now, if we are talking after the merger (loss of SR would stink in that instance), but matchups like Castle/Jasper, MD/MV, or a RHS/GS or HH matchup would be good for both sides.

Heck, if Castle/Jasper were to ever happen, I might even go to that game. At the middle school level, those two teams do not like each other.

Keep in mind the 7 team division gives them 3 non-conference games to work with. They could play Jasper, HH and GS or Linton.

    20 hours ago, Titan32 said:

That assumes GS wants their second non-conference game as a game with SR. (1st being Southport).  Who knows what the staff would like, but more than a few fans would like to see them go out look for something else.

So, I am assuming that this snarky remark is being made because I bleed blue. Hey, that’s fine pal. Just don’t talk out of both sides of your mouth buddy. You say one thing, then come back at me for answering a question and and having some kind of audacity to suggest that Southridge would play GS in football. How dare I? Well, I’m glad that Southridge fans can see how you feel about their team. But please, drop them in week 9. Would love to see who you might get to replace them there. I hear Bowman Academy has an opening week 9 this year. Maybe that spot will still be open when this merger happens.

    Get over it already.

LInton has enjoyed playing Southridge the last two years starting the season... course... we've lost both time plus another meeting in post-season... but will this new alignment possibly end our series?

I haven’t gotten to see the entirety of schedules yet, but, if this merger does happen, and the split happens as is being said here, and if Tecumseh does come back into the fold, and they do try to keep schedules as close to what they currently are, along with established rivalries, I believe that Linton would be off the SR schedule with the boys from Huntingburg playing non-con against Jasper (wk 2), Heritage Hills (wk 7), and Gibson Southern (wk 9). Tecumseh would be the new edition to the schedule, and considering that SR doesn’t have to swap anyone from their current schedule for conference play, Tecumseh would most likely slide into the week one game with SR.

The mercy rule comes up for discussion at the outset of each FB season. Ohio's results showed that about approximately 1/3 of their games hit levels where the mercy rule is necessary (a certain point differential that triggers running clock except for change of possession and scores). The have over 700 schools paying football, and there are lots of lopsided scores. Many Indiana HS FB games end in lopsided scores, but the greater percentage of occurrences are in the smaller school classes.

    My proposal:

6A and 5A schools - no mercy rule - HCs among these schools have numerous non-starting seniors. The running clock cuts down the time available to them to get these seniors in the ballgame. These programs usually have plenty of bodies (and available quarters) for the JV, frosh and C games.

4A and below - mercy rule - lead greater than or equal to 30 points anytime in H2 results in the running clock. These programs end up using available quarters and bodies Friday night, creating a problem for the JV, frosh and C games that ensue. These class levels also have a greater amount of lopsided games.

Review historical data with the naked eye in John Harrell; higher win margins, more lopsided scores, higher per-game/lower per-game offense and defense (respectively) scoring averages. On the other hand, in 6A S2 Chesterton, with its losing record, still maintained a defensive scoring average below 20 points in the regular season, not far below the other three teams who were all top ten in lowest points allowed in 6A. Then look randomly at smaller schools and specifically at Pioneer, Southridge and other small-school powerhouses. You'll see what I mean.

Love to hear your thoughts. BTW don't get me started on seeding (chuckle).

What about if a 6A or 5A plays a 4A or lower? How would the mercy rule work in this situation? The SIAC has teams in classes from 2A to 5A. The SAC is the same way. How would that work?
