  1. 2023 Westfield  7 on 7 (7th & 8th Grade)

    Coach,

We are reaching out to schools around here who may be interested in joining us.

    Westfield will host 7th & 8th grade 7 on 7 on Thursday, July 13th from 9:30 AM-11:30 AM.

Games will be at our high school stadium which has turf as well as our grass practice fields next door.

Incoming 7th grade teams, and 8th grade teams (or a combo of both) are invited.

Players will need a helmet, shoulder pads, mouthpiece, cleats, and if possible the team in the same color of jerseys.

We want this to be a positive experience for everyone so coaches are welcome to be on the field.

Games are 20 minutes with a 5 minute break in between.

Warm-up on the fields will be available starting at 9 AM and we will get together for a rules meeting at 9:30 on the stadium mid-field logo. We will conclude the last games around 11:30.

We look forward to another great experience for all teams/players involved as we prep for the upcoming Fall.

Contact us for more info and let us know if you will be coming & which grade the team(s) you want to bring.

  4. I'm currently reading 'Race and football in America" by Dawn Knight.  It highlights George Taliaferro and by the title alone am hoping by reading it I can continue to do my part to make this world a better place.

I know Dick Dullaghan wrote a book, "Reflections of Indiana football".

I've read "Chasing perfection" and 'The right kind of Heros".

I was wondering what other books are out there written about HS football.

  5. For all the finals this weekend the change of possession has been an either very quick play clock start or longer than usual.  The quick start has resulted in what I recall at least 2 teams getting a delay of game to start their drive.  The delay if course being commercial breaks which I understand both teams are dealing with but when it comes to momentum it puts damper in things at times.

Lastly, I miss hearing Coach Dullaghan.  I wish more retired coaches or even current coaches, would call these games.  Nothing against who is calling the games this weekend.

I’ll say it again - it can be done. The IHSAA and it’s member schools choose not to.  Other states seem to manage those obstacles you identified.

I can buy the idea that schools want to host their sectional to have a home court/field advantage.  I don’t think that reason is as common for events after sectional.  Greenfield-Central, Martinsville, and Frankfort all host 1A or 2A regionals in boys basketball.  All 3 are in different classes and are only guaranteed to NOT have a home court advantage.  Their team could also be playing elsewhere the same day/night.  It’s been a while since a boys basketball team played in a semi-state they hosted.  Many schools enjoy hosting tournament events, very few of which choose to because of a belief that they will have a home court/field advantage.  Seymour, Huntington North, Lafayette Jeff, Washington, Southport, Logansport, Elkhart…not a criticism of their athletic teams, but not many are making deep tournament runs and playing at home.

I do think the IHSAA needs to create a greater incentive for schools to host regional and semi-state events.

If a fully neutral site hurts attendance from the IHSAA’s perspective, why do they play the state finals at Lucas Oil instead of letting schools play at home?  They played the championship games at home sites from 1973-1976.  Football is one of the few IHSAA tournaments that do not play regional and semi-state rounds at neutral sites.  I would like to see that change now that more adequate facilities are available.

Any idea of the locations beginning in 77?

  7. Westfield has hosted a summer 7 on7 for several years with the exception of last summer.

Westfield Middle School will host our 7 on 7 on Saturday July 17th, 2021

Games will be at our stadium which has turf as well as our grass practice fields

Incoming 8th grade teams or a combo of both 7/8th are invited.

Players will need a helmet, shoulder pads, mouthpiece, cleats, and if possible the team in the same color of jerseys.

We want this to be a positive experience for everyone so coaches are welcome to be on the field.

    $50 per team

$75 total if you bring 2 teams

    No fee for spectators.

Games are 25 minutes with a 5 minute break in between.

We will start the first games at 9am and go until noon or 1pm depending on the turnout for that particular date.

In past years teams have had an opportunity to get a lot of valuable experience and I feel it was a huge success for those who attended.

Contact me for more info and to let me know which date you will be coming & which grade the team's) you want to bring.
