I played Indiana HS football in the 80's.  Yes, the condition of the field at the end of the season was def not as good as the start, but I don't remember our field or competitors fields being dangerous/unplayable parcels of ground.  All of a sudden it's almost akin to child abuse to have the kids play on grass in Nov/Dec?  Can't remember anyone ever complaining about the game fields or even the practice fields, for that matter.  Also don't remember an inordinate amount of foot/ankle/leg injuries late in the season vs. early on.  They conditions were what they were.  We were just happy to be out there knocking the crap out of each other.

Probably because we didn't have anything else, we didn't know what we were missing.  Now with continuously more schools being turf, I can see how a grass field in late season might not look as attractive to those used to turf, and yes a good turf field keeps the game more consistent in bad weather conditions, I'll admit that.

This curmudgeon still prefers grass and no one's changing my mind.  I know I'm stuck in the past on this, sorry.

I think if we had cried about deteriorating field conditions when I played, the coaches would have told us to HTFU.

We played at Heritage in 2006 in a torrential downpour. When the referee set the ball the dang thing near floated away. We threatened to score but we fumbled on the 3 yard line.  Heritage came down and scored to go up 6-0. Heritage missed the extra point and the rest of the game was football follies.    Heritage and Cass had a good little rivalry going in the early to mid 2000's before sectional realignment. Seeing Heritage under your moniker reminded me of this night and that game.  Coldest, wettest and sloppiest game I have seen.  If the game would have been played on turf I wouldn't have had that memory (LOL).  Im not sure anyone in Northeast Indiana should have been playing on October 27th 2006.

Yeah, I heard lots of extra curricular activity. If what I heard was true, I could see why the series between the schools has been dormant since the late 80s. Usually rivals get that handsy, not 2 programs who never play each other.

Fun fact: Warren County is one of like 3 counties in Indiana who does not have a catholic church in it's boundaries. Legend has it back in the late 1800s one tried to set up shop in Williamsport and it was ran out of town. Maybe Warren County folks just don't like catholics?

Edit: I'm from Warren County, and I approve this conspiracy theory....

Interesting Stuff.  My Dad group up in Pine Village one of 10 kids in a big Catholic family.  I know they went to Church on Oxford (Benton County).

Is Cass going to be able to make some noise in the conference this year, or did they just face a really bad Pioneer team?

Also, what happened to Tipton? I thought they graduated some talent, but I never saw them losing to Frankton.

I am interested in seeing how Cass uses their size in the passing game.  I know they have one package that puts the shortest guy on a route at 6'5".  Hillis (6'5") at QB and Fry at RB have been playing since their Freshman year and are now Juniors.  Chambers at 6'6 has bumped out to TE from guard and the addition of Tyson Good at 6'6 who hasn't played since his freshman year is a great pickup.  Also have Keaton Lewellon at 6'7 lining up on the outside.  Should be plenty of weapons on offense and defense.  This is the most mature team Cass has had in recent years.  Interested in seeing how they perform in the coming weeks.

Im excited to see how Lewis Cass does.

I play close attention to them due to Kyle and Tyson Johnson are over there and now Craig Barr will be on staff.

Saw in the paper they might be moving Tyson Johnson to QB... Which I get. Hes a leader, a hard worker, pretty athletic kid who knows what he can and can't do. They did lose quite a bit but Clayton is gonna be a good one...his dad and Craig have 3 rings combined, with 300+ wins between the two, plus some other guys who had been at Cass for years. Itll be exciting to see how Cass does being very green. I knew they were good when I asked Tyson if he was gonna be playing a lot of O and he responded "no, we are loaded at skilled positions, ill be mainly on D).. Tyson would have been a stud at WR here (30-48 receptions 600 to 700 yards..leader had 45 and 500+).talk about weapons galore over there when that talented of a kid is an after thought.

Was the bolded in the pharos tribune? What Paper? Sorry didn't see this

This could be a really good job for the right person. Community loves football. Return the Johnson kid (move in from Winimac not sure first name) and Meister plus the Moss kid on the line. Other than that I can't think of anyone else I saw play this year that is going to help the Kings win. Cass needs to look for a HC with some experience who has been through some lean times and knows how to handle them, because they are on the horizon. Also need someone who is going to teach at Cass and be invested in the community on a daily basis. Just my 2 centavos.

Tyler Johnson was starting center and played some line backer when going to 3 man front.  He will be a good one.  The Lytle kid was good enough to play corner but had others in front of him.  He will be back as well.   What you won't have is 5 all state guys at skilled positions.

2a :   Lewis Cass heads to Father Eckert Field to pay a visit to Andrean

4a:    Russ Radke led New Prairie heads to another slobberknocker with a matchup with Hobart

6a:   Not a stranger to NWI, Bart Curtis will bring his Tigers of Warsaw to Broadway, to see Merrillville Pirates.

Roughly 8 square Miles will separate all 3 of these games.

2a.- I gotta go with my Kings and no more of this OT horse bleep.

4a. I like New Prairie in a slobber Knocker.

6a. Way out of my lane here but Cass has a former player who coaches with Bart at Warsaw so I will take Warsaw for their first Regional Championship.

Your success rate in going for 2 is very dependent on your opponent is it not?

We only started going for two against Pioneer. I think possibly because we knew they would go for two every time.   I know with going for one you have to complete a pass backwards between your legs and then you have to put it on the tee and then your kicker has to kick it.  Sometimes it can seem easier to line up under center and run the ball.

Looking at those stats against Andrean. Over 500 yds of offense with  twice as many first downs and plays .  Hate that the bombers lost this game.

How long has Lewis Cass been going for 2 on every touchdown?  Did that just start this year?  Is that done based entirely on philosophy or do they lack a good kicker which makes it a better solution for them than if they had a kicker that made an xp almost a sure thing?

I believe success rate going for 2 has driven decision to lead with 2. All it takes is to hit on 2’s 50% of the time. Anything after is gravy. Cass kicker is good one of the best we have had
