So let’s take a quick gander….Eagles open up with Northridge…that’s an L….Then they face a Fairfield team who was young last year and gave the eagles a scare, that’s an L this year….Then they square off with cross town rival Riley who also has a new staff. The Eagles SHOULD beat them right? Powerhouse coach and 2000 kids to choose from….I’ll leave that as a W…St. Joe is an L. New prairie ? Elkhart? Penn? And Jimtown? Chances of keeping most of their Jefferson students are slim…

Yes it is for sure a tough schedule for them. It’s part of why there hasn’t been consistent winning in SB when playing those teams on that side of bracket. Maybe I’m getting caught up in reading newspaper headlines and not seeing the reality of what’s really going on over there. It does appear with a deeper dive it may not be such a rosey start over there as the multiple newspaper stories make you seem. Honeymoon maybe over before the wedding gets started, but we shall see soon enough. Have to compete week one, and win next 3. We can check back going into week 4.

Let’s slow your roll….Adams in all honesty should be the team of “the city” every year no matter whose coaching. They nearly double the enrollment of any other two schools combined. Clay can barely field a team, Washington runs a pop Warner offense and Riley the last 2 years have been non-existent. But, let’s be real. Adams returns no starters on the offensive line….they’ve run 3 different offenses the past 3 seasons….one of the coaches who was at Riley the last two season is now at adams in the same role. The new head coach though I wish him all the success… has he called an offense or defense? Any of his friends have they ever coached or run a drill other then on Madden skill builder? The only excitement I’ve seen has been from the Tribune.

Someone is sounding a little jealous of the paper giving some positive stories on the Eagles. Don’t be mad that they brought in a young, winner to lead the team on the East Side. Maybe this shows what can happen at the other schools if they bring home a winner, and he reaches out and brings back other players who have a history with the program. Now have to agree it’s TBD on what results can be, but if you go off newspaper articles someone thinks it’s going to go well.

This is misleading. While Karczewski still has to be formally approved by the board, he has been working with the team since it returned from moratorium on July 11. While still behind almost all programs, it's not the drastic circumstance people are being led to believe.

Sounds like a lot of excitement over on East Side. He’s brought back ex teammates to help him and it’s looking like the Eagles maybe the team of the city this year and going forward.

Not surprising.  Barron is a tough coach and those kids are not used to that approach.  We are in the era of the "Bro Coach."  Tough guys like Barron are dinosaurs and are rapidly becoming extinct, unfortunately.  Those kids would much rather be fishing and water skiing on Koontz Lake than lifting and doing speed drills in the Walkerton heat.

You could very likely be correct. Winners figure it out, so if he’s that guy it will all equal out and results will come. I believe they finished 3rd in conference last year, you have to think that’s the floor for them this year.

Bremen is in rebuild mode. The lost a lot of offensive and defensive line as well as having to replace the quarterback. They have some talent at the skill positions but need to find some beef.

Even in a rebuild year, you have to think in conference play only Jimtown should beat you guys at this point. The SB schools are in real struggle mode at this time, and a lot of mixed reviews coming out of Walkerton.

I wouldn’t call it much of a dynasty. Since they’ve removed 3/4 South bend schools from their schedule they’ve been .500. Losing to a 5A, 2 win laporte team last year in overtime doesn’t scream dynasty. Quite possible they start the season 1-3.

Marian lost a large talented senior class and had some turnover in the coaching ranks. Regular season could be a struggle for the knights, but that 3A sectional bracket shouldn’t worry Marian unless they lose some depth to injuries.

Adams quite possible will be running its 4th offense in 4 years and who ever they announce will have no success this year with a 2-3 week off season. I see Adams 1-8 regular season and that’s being generous.

Elkhart- is still rebuilding. They get their RB from injury and could cause a few teams some fits.

St. Joe- I don’t see too much on the D changing. Their offense will see some new wrinkles as they try to utilize their recent draft pick from Indy.

Washington- Heard numbers are terrible. This is a make or break year for Stammich. He had a great first season with the 26 seniors he was left with, but has had little success in the win column since. Heard numbers are barely 30. Hope they add a 6th play to their predictable offense.

Bremen- will be a younger bunch, but let’s keep the excuses to a minimum. Many teams are young this season.

South Bend Riley- South Side seems to have turned a few heads. Hearing good things from a few coaches outside the program. Time will tell.

Clay- will leave it at that.

NP- brings back their skill positions but graduate some of their line. They’ll still be top 3 in the conference.

Jimtown- solid team that will struggle in the post season.

So you gave a quick breakdown on each, but where do you see each side of division finishing this coming year?

And other then the new SJ kid, who is some names to know on each side?

    Friday, Oct. 30
    Penn at Chesterton, 7:30 pm
    Elkhart at Portage, 7:30 pm
    Adams at Concord, 7 pm
St. Joseph at Logansport, 7 pm
Marian at Tippecanoe Valley, 7 pm
West Noble at Jimtown, 7 pm
    Bremen at Wabash, 7 pm

Many NIC road warriors this week

Call me crazy but I see NIC sweeping this week. And yes that includes the Eagles going to Concord and pulling out upset.

Wow - a couple of surprises.  Not sure what has happened to NP but I did not see that coming.  From when I saw them in person to now it is like a complete slide the wrong way.  Watched about an hour on TV and the Plymouth QB is a beast.

KV losing to Culver.  Not as surprised.  Culver has a couple of athletes some teams may find hard to stop

Marian went as expected as did Bremen - TIppy beating Wash. had that one same with Jimtown

Logansport running for 400 yds did not know theyw ere that good but play in a touch conference

Have to feel for Clay so many coaches over the past few year and so few kids - very tough - those that played it out should be commended

Yes surprised by the NP/Plymouth game. But in fairness it was hard to get a real idea of Plymouth after missing weeks. And you are correct 7, looked really good.

Marian should walk to semi state, don’t see anyone before then getting in the way.

SJ playing Logansport could get them another win, things have lined up well for them to go on a mini run and possibly end up giving admin a positive outlook on season.

Heard a few rumblings from south side of conference. I hear at Riley they can’t wait for Coach Edison to return and right the ship. Had heard preseason they had high hopes for year, and don’t think ending it at Logansport giving up 400 plus rushing was in those thoughts.
And out on the county line, don’t think anyone is happy with lack of offense and blowing a share of conference title. Could be moves on at least offense down there. Really a disappointment to not score against a 1-8 team in sectionals.

Looking forward to week 2 of playoffs and seeing the conference teams make some runs.

  9. 13 minutes ago, MarshallCounty said:

Does it? New Prairie and Marian are who the south traditionally ran through, they got bumped up, now its a wide open field. Jimtown is Jimtown, no doubt about it, but they lost a ton, and have a new coach in place, a lot of question marks in Baugo Township.

Agree with you on all points. But when looking at the Jimtown from the start of them joining conference and there being a North and South they have been 2nd or 3rd almost every year. Yes there was a Washington year and a Bremen year at top, but after NP and Marian there was always Jimtown lurking. But your correct new staff, new kids so who knows. Look forward to seeing how it plays out.

This is a solid take. I know in Boone's situation, there are no excuses for the rout that took place. However, losing our QB/K early and not having some of our big men up front did not help us. Another factor is having minimal time to prepare with a very young team. I cannot imagine what its like for other teams that are losing starters to quarantine as well.

I definitely think you are right with waiting until week 4 to get a really solid grasp on these teams. Best of luck to everyone!

Yes I think all teams will look better as the season advances into season. Still can’t say many expected that outcome. Was that more being down a couple guys or is Glenn actually going to be decent team this year?
I know when I looked for scores Friday night I was surprised by quite a few of them. If College and Pro is like this I’ll hold off on placing bets on games this season. Totally unpredictable.

Football is finally here!! With that being said....

I don't see a South Bend School going .500 this year...

Adams- Ira was their entire offense last year. I really didn't see anyone that will fill his shoes in the passing game. Their Defense is suspect. 2-3? different D-Coordinator changes last year? They wont be able to compete with the likes of Elkhart and potentially 2-3 through the first 5 games. Riley wont be any competition for them this year and St. Joe could be their second win. Jones is going to have to do something he isn't use to doing and that's running the ball.

Riley- Old Marian JV coach at the helm now. Nothing exciting coming from last years younger kids. They still have a Luuga and Lee.  I don't see them winning more then 3 games. Maybe Washington, Bremen...Clay could potentially beat them this year.  I see them reaching deep in to Reggie Glon's old playbook and trying to run the rock. Hopefully they have more wins then the coach's Podcast does listeners.

Washington- loosing 22 seniors is going to hurt. Will see how this coach can develop players. It wont be as easy as getting handed a deep senior class. Will he use his inside edge and pull a few kids from Jefferson away from Jones/Adam's. Time will tell. Week1 determine if how their season will go playing a weak Hammond Team. Elkhart week 5? Who scheduled that match-up😨. Being one dimensional is going to cause them a bit of trouble.

Jimtown- Solid team with a new coach at the helm.  QB is suppose to be a player. They might cause some trouble for the South Teams. Jimtown has a good shot at winning the South Crown.

Bremen- believe their QB is a Junior. He didn't look too bad last year. They're losing a solid TE who played both ways. Bremen won't be much of a threat this year but will find some success against the South Bend Schools. 3-4 win season.

Glenn- losing 15 seniors. They lose a solid DT and a SS. QB is a junior and a two year starter. Is this the year he puts it all together? Can the Tri-County school cause some fits for Jimtown...St. Joe? Glenn soars past Washington, Clay and Riley. Heard Glenn's freshmen JV team beat Riley's 56-0? last year. Glenn could be a big surprise. Time will tell.

St. Joe- a few question marks here. Whose going to fill in for their RB. Are they going to run 3x1 and flare the rb to the trips side for 25 plays? We will see how creative the playbook has gotten with all this time off.  .500 team.

NP- Radke's gone...Will they continue with their  one dimensional offense or start utilizing some more pass plays. They won't be able to compete with Elkhart and PENN if they continue with the heavy run game.

Marian- They won't have the success in the regular season as they did last year. Key loses Penn, Elkhart, Lima Central and NP. They should have no issues with Bremen but Whiting is a toss up.  They have a solid RB in #25 and the QB isn't too shabby. Their offensive line is questionable for the North conference. We will see if they pulled any talent from the surrounding area.

PENN- Did the pandemic help PENN in keeping some players from sneaking over to Edwardsburg? If Laporte is unable to play week 2. Penn could open up 0-3 again...Valpo, Cathedral and St. Xavier. Three tough match ups for a big school who lacks talent in the skill positions.

Elkhart- Will this be the bigger and better Penn of the 90's? Talent at all the skill positions with decent size. This could be the team to finally put the North on the map down South. They could vary easily go undefeated into the sectionals. Again, South Bend Washington 3A with 700 students. Hopefully Elkhart puts in their JV team. No offense to Washington.

Well that’s quite the feedback on each team. Let’s hope our conference can play every week and we can see how it all shakes out.

I don't want to reveal too many secrets! And about Andrean - yes, I believe they are underrated this year even if they are in the Indiana Football Digest as #5. They are going to be very good. Their size for a 2A team is just completely unbelievable, and they have the playmakers to make a deep run this year. I am hopeful that we can make some noise, but I must temper my expectations since we lose such talented individuals.

I get it, have to keep somethings in your back pocket. You’ve been solid for years so wouldn’t expect a drop off. I’ll keep track of Andrean more this year then. Seems like I’m each class there is a real solid team from up here who can make a real run, look forward to it.

  13. 4 minutes ago, Graphic Context said:

Andrean returns the majority of their playmakers. They will definitely have more success this year than they did last year.

We seem to be filling roles but I am not quite sure they will be of the same caliber as last year. Wheeler is building a strong team as well. Our backup QB from last year moved into the Wheeler district, and he is going to be something special. He will be a junior this year.

Ouch, so your down top two QB’s from last year. Makes the year with less offseason an uphill battle. Anyone left in program who can toss it around, or gonna be mainly run team to start out?
So you think Andrean is in for a long run? Would like to see more true North teams playing down state.

We have the same schedule as we did last year - can be found on Maxpreps.

As for how our team will be this year, we have a lot of question marks to answer right now. We graduated 15 seniors from last year. We have a strong senior class this year as well, but there are a lot of very talented individuals that we lost. What we lacked in size, we made up for in speed.

Andrean played really well that day. We were outsized not only physically but in sheer number as well (you can see that above). The field conditions were not the best that day - and I am not trying to make any excuses by any means, because Andrean definitely put it to us, but I believe it could have been a closer battle under different circumstances.

This year is a bit of a question mark for us. It really depends on if we can fill the gaps left by the class of 2019.

Yes you guys had some very talented players last year. Vann and your QB were quite special players. Was surprised by the end score of the Andrean game. Anyone to fill their shoes? With similar schedule and they margin of victory you had, have to think regular season will be more of same.
    Does Andean return a lot?

  15. With a week away from start of Fall camp how do things look in the North and South assuming we get to start?

North does Penn take back the Crown?

Does Elkhart show they can be a force as the big dog?

New coach keep NP running new the top?

Can Marian move to north and make some noice?

Any others ready to make a move and win more games?

In the south who will take over from NP and Marian winning almost every NIC South title?

Can a SB school rise to top?

    Bremen rebound?

Jimtown finally out of shadow of Marian and NP?

Glenn ready to be a team to compete?

Lets see if we can get some talk on here.

That is what I had heard also. I know there is word going around on who could go in and pull them to their school. Heard there is even an undecided 8th grader on that team who is a true difference maker. A lot of talk about area teams wanting to get him. With some possible openings coming up in conference there could be some player movement this offseason.
