crimsonace1 Posted October 15, 2024 Posted October 15, 2024 Last week of the regular season Delta (4-4, 2-4) at New Palestine (7-0, 6-0): The Eagles are looking to bounce back after a 42-7 loss to Greenfield-Central last week, while the Dragons have been rolling, hitting the running clock in every conference game so far. Delta has traditionally played NP well under coach Chris Overholt. Jacob Davis has thrown for 1,200+ yards and Josh Ranes has run for 1,100+ for the Dragons. Delta has a very veteran group led by QB Bronson Edwards, RB Nolan Carpenter and WR Zane Cline who have a lot of varsity experience. NP's defense has been very good, holding three straight opponents to less than 100 total yards. Mt. Vernon (4-4, 4-2) at Yorktown (5-3, 3-3): After an 0-4 start, the Marauders have caught stride and won four straight games, scoring at least 34 points in three of the four wins. Last week was a 34-0 victory over Shelbyville, MV's first shutout of the year. Joliba Brogan will be a focal point for the Marauders. He ran for 183 yards and two scores last week and has 1,048 yards for the season. Yorktown struggled to move the ball last week in a 47-20 loss to Pendleton Heights, but the Tigers had the league's most impressive win, a 21-7 victory over Greenfield-Central, the week before, a game in which Wilson Webster ran for 173 yards. New Castle (4-4, 3-3) at Greenfield-Central (6-2, 4-2): The Cougars took the frustrations of back-to-back losses out on Delta last week, beating the Eagles 42-7. They're starting to get some players back from injury, and it showed as their running game spread the ball around. Dallas Freeman ran for 67 yards and two scores and threw for 166 and two scores against Delta, while Cooper Hinton returned to the lineup and ran for 66 yards. New Castle has some impressive wins this season - including back-to-back wins over Yorktown and Delta before dropping two straight against the other 2/3 of Hancock County's HHC delegation. Last week, the Trojans became the first team in three weeks to score on New Palestine - a great leaping catch in the end zone by Neil McMartin - but struggled to move the ball against the Dragons. Sophomore QB Carson Bell and senior RB Caleb Clapp have had outstanding seasons and will need to have big games this week. Pendleton Heights (3-5, 2-4) at Shelbyville (1-7, 0-6): After two tough back-to-back losses by a total of five points, the Arabians put it all together last week in a 47-20 victory over Yorktown. PH held the Tigers to 148 total yards, while HHC passing leader Colton Frank threw for 255 and RB Keaton Jones ran for 235. The Arabians also feature the HHC's top receiver in Nate DeRolf, who had a 100-yard game last week. Shelbyville hasn't scored a point in three weeks and has four total touchdowns in its seven-game skid, but the Golden Bears' defense has held two of the league's most powerful offenses - New Palestine and Mt. Vernon - at bay, at least for a while, in the last two weeks. Last week Greenfield-Central 42, Delta 7 Mt. Vernon 34, Shelbyville 0 New Palestine 44, New Castle 6 Pendleton Heights 47, Yorktown 20 Next week Heritage at Delta, 7 p.m. (3A 28) Beech Grove at Greenfield-Central, 7 p.m. (4A 21) New Castle at Pendleton Heights, 7 p.m. (4A 21) Yorktown at Richmond, 7 p.m. (4A 21) Mt.
