Class 2A North Semi State Preview
Andrean (10-3) at Eastside (13-0)
Q&A with Andrean Head Coach Chris Skinner
Question 1
Congratulations on reaching the final four Coach to you, staff and team. Coming off your regional win last week, how is your team handling its success at this late point in the season and what is their collective mindset as you begin game prep for Friday's semistate contest?
Response
Thank you and congrats to the other 23 teams that won their Regional! We told the team to enjoy the win Friday night, but come ready to work Saturday morning. Our Seniors and most of our Juniors were part of the 2019 Semi-State run, so they understand the importance of turning the page to focus on the next opponent.
Question 2
Looking at game film of your opponent this week, what are their primary areas of strength and who are some of the playmakers that your defense will need to neutralize in order stay in the game and put your team in position to win?
Response
Eastside's QB, Laban Davis, is a phenomenal football player. I'd imagine he'll be a finalist for Mr. Football. While he's certainly the headliner, it's not just a one-man show. Their Offensive Line plays with great technique. Gavin Wallace and Kyler Bibbee, their Tight Ends, offer a dual-threat as effective blockers in the run game but receiving threats in the pass game. Their offense has been efficient all season, and we'll need to play disciplined if we want to neutralize it.
Question 3
How does your base offensive package match up with the personnel they will be countering with on the defensive side of the football?
Response
As the year has progressed we've been able to implement our schemes from a variety of formations and personnel groupings. Our offensive coaches do a great job of preparing a variety of sets in order to have versatility. As the competition gets better, it becomes important to identify which formations and personnel packages provide the numbers advantages. This will be important early Friday when we see how Eastside defends our offense.
Question 4
At this point in the season, teams are generally very evenly matched relative to speed, size and skill level. What are some of the intangible elements that need to break your way in order to pave the path for a trip to Lucas Oil Stadium on Thanksgiving weekend?
Response
We're expecting an intense atmosphere Friday in Butler. Eastside will have the advantage of playing at home in front of their fans in a packed house. As a football fan, this is how it should be. But as players and as a team, we'll need to be prepared for a hostile environment and play our game.
