Appreciate the context. Sounds like blood was boiling and the cheap shot by the Mississinewa player put everyone over the edge. Don’t condone the brawl but that likely never happens if #62 doesn’t do what he did and they’re able to finish the game with triple 0’s on the clock. Bad look for both programs here, hopefully Wayne pays for the locker room damage.

I agree.  It makes both programs look bad.  Like I said, the players know what was said and not the fans.  If the officials were hearing things they should have stopped the clocks and talked to both head coach's.  Then tell the coach's to pull their teams together and talk to them about it.  Had this been done, perhaps things don't escalate to what happened.  At the same time, kids are kids and say things during the heat of the moment and competition that they shouldn't say.  It will be interesting to see if the IHSAA steps in and takes disciplinary actions against the schools, coach's, and/or players.  Wayne is not the first school to damage a lockerroom at Mississinewa.  I am sure that Mississinewa has damaged lockerrooms over the years as well.

Saw the video. Not sure the prelude to what happened, but in the video I saw of the specific incident, that falls solely on Mississinewa’s #62. Won’t find a bigger cheap shot than that shove in the back after the play was over. IHSAA should be able to review that video and retroactively eject him from the game (if he already wasn’t) and he should be suspended for the next game. If I were his coach he wouldn’t play the rest of the season.

I was not at the game but did stop by to watch a little from the parking lot.  I watched Mississinewa score their final touchdown and after the running back was clearly in the endzone, officials gave the touchdown signal, and RB dropped the ball, a Wayne player shoved him.  Wayne had 5 unsportsmanlike penalties in the game before the brawl.  Mississinewa's #62 was in the wrong for shoving the Wayne player and a flag was thrown very quickly for it as well.  Then 2 or 3 Wayne players attacked #62. People are saying that there were words exchanged between players in reference to a dad and racial slurs.  The players know what was said not the fans, so who knows what provoked this brawl. The fans from Wayne jumped the fence and ran onto the field.  Then a Wayne player chased Mississinewa's coach across the field.  WaneTv out of Fort Wayne has it posted on their website showing the coach being chased.  It was all uncalled for.  I agree #62 should be suspended.  I do believe the officials initially ejected him.  It used to be an IHSAA rule that if a player was ejected from a game they are automatically ejected for 4 quarters.  So if a player was ejected in the 3rd quarter they would have to sit out the 4th quarter and would not be eligible to play until the 4th quarter of the next game.  Wayne has also been accused of damaging the visitor's lockerroom.  From the pictures posted on social media it looks like the wall was punched and hole was put in the wall, perhaps it was a player taking out frustration after being ejected or after the game due to loosing.  Some of the other "damage" looked like just normal wear from players rubbing the corner of the wall.  Either way, when there are at least 5 unsportsmanlike penalties against one team and two players ejected, a fight or brawl is bound to happen.

For the record, I don't agree with the actions of any of the players or fans running out onto the field.  Sad thing is, the clock was running non-stop due to Mississinewa being up 35 points and Mississinewa was marching down the field to potentially score again.  There were several police officers that respond to the game to make sure everybody was able to leave safely and to my knowledge everybody was able to leave safely.

  3. If you can video of tonight's Mississinewa and Fort Wayne Wayne game it was wild.  Wayne had 2 players ejected in the 3rd quarter.  Then with 7:05 left in the game, the officials called the game due to the number of unsportsmanlike penalties.   One of the Wayne players chased Mississinewa's coach around the field.  I am sure the IHSAA will be looking at the film and reviewing it to determine if there are any suspensions of players and coach's from both teams.  It wouldn't surprise me if the IHSAA suspends players from Wayne in the next sport they play this school year.

Mississinewa has one running back that is 100 yards shy of 2,000 rushing yards on the season and another running back that has almost 1,500 yards rushing on the season.   The Northridge game will be a good one.  Hopefully the goal post is straight in the West endzone.

  4. Mississienwa is a young team.  Starting several sophomores and a few freshman.  They are big up front and have even bigger players on the sideline.  Opening game Senior QB had a season ending injury in the opening game of the season and the Sophomore QB that replaced him was playing wide out.  They are coming together and may surprise Leo in the Regional.

Leo may be the team to beat in the North based on record however their closest game of the season was against East Noble with a final score of 40-32.  East Noble may surprise Leo in the Sectional game.

Leo and Mississinewa can both score in bunches as they both appear to have high power offenses with lots of weapons.  Their opponents records are very similar as are the scores of the games.  If these two end up playing for the Regional title, it will be a good game.  It will come down to turnovers and defense.

The North bracket is pretty wide open and Mississinewa, Leo, Hobart, and East Noble are the teams that stand out to be playing Thanksgiving weekend.

Chatard has history on their side.  They are 4A because of success factor.  They will struggle this year and next then go back down to 3A where they will win State titles again then be moved back up to 4A.  This is the trend that they have.

Mooresville may surprise people in the South but Roncalli is the team to beat in the South.  Also in the South East Central, Jasper, and Mount Vernon may pose a threat to Roncalli.  I would say the South bracket is a toss up.

Many of the 4A teams still play a number of players both sides of the ball a lot.  It will be a fun class to watch to see who comes out on top.

Good luck to all teams this week and throughout the tournament.  If teams can stay injury free there could be a few upsets over the next few weeks.

I was an official for that game. If they had a coach on the field communicating with the team he didn't do a very good job. We waited until the time expired and didn't see anyone coming in the distance so two of our officials started for the locker room. Near the back of the building we ran into two coaches walking toward the field. We told them they were already late for the second half and they were surprised. One of them ran back to the locker room with the official to get the team. So it was close to 20 minutes after halftime started and 5 minutes after the time on the clock expired before the team left the locker room. Mississinewa had an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty at the end of the first half so with the foul for coming out late, Delta was kicking off from the +30 to start the second half. We were surprised they didn't try an onside kick since Mississinewa would still have poor field position if they recovered it. That was one of the most miserable weather nights I've worked with temps in the 40s with strong winds and a cold rain. It was Halloween too as I recall. Mississinewa had a good team that year, but it was obvious the players were miserable with the weather.

Yes it was Halloween.  It was miserable weather wise.  If I recall Mississinewa did have a coach watching the clock but the cell service or radio's weren't working due to the team being inside the school.  Yes both teams were very good with each having at least 1 player from the Senior class played D1.  That game had rain, sleet, snow, and high winds which made it bitter cold.  My son wore stretch knit gloves under his field gloves plus had hand warmers on the sidelines and couldn't stay warm.  He also wore long johns and a hoodie like almost all of the other kids.  Yes, the coach's should have set their watch to the time on the clock but at the same time Delta has room behind the visitor's stands to build a nice locker room type building and it would resolve the issue in the future.  If I recall the game was loaded with penalties on both sides which was probably because of the cold as the kids were trying to stay warm.

  6. Mississinewa over Jay County by how ever much they want to win by.

Alexandria over Elwood.  Question will be will Elwood be looking for another new coach?  It seems that they have to hire new head coach's about every other year across the board in all sports.

South Adams over MG but this game will be closer than we all think.  MG will put up a fight and may pull it off at the last second but SA has too much power and will win.

Tipton over Blackford.  Tipton has on their schedule a date with Eastbrook in the Sectional as they want to show why they should be back in the CIC or why they aren't in the CIC anymore.

Lapel over Frankton.  Frankton is still a year or two away from being able to compete with their rival.

Eastbrook over Eastern.  Eastern wants to be part of the CIC and will be up to the challenge but Eastbrook is just too much for them.  Eastbrook is #1 in the AP and #2 in the Coach's polls.  Eastbrook is looking forward to Tipton and Luers.

Oak Hill over Bellmont.  Bellmont has won only 1 game this year.  They have some talent but they are ready for wrestling season to begin.

I do believe that Mississinewa, Oak Hill, and Eastbrook will be Sectional Champions this year.  As far as Regional Champs, that is questionable for all 3 as Eastbrook would play Luers.  Mississinewa would face Leo which would be a tall task to win.  Oak Hill would have West Lafayette or Brebeuf.

Good Luck to all CIC teams and represent the CIC well in the tournament.

  7. I drive by Luers a lot when I am in Ft Wayne for work.  The field looks very nice at the beginning of the season.  But then when it rains a lot and as the season goes on the field condition visibly changes.  However, the changes are not any different than other grass high school fields.  I have also wondered why one of Luers professional athletes hasn't donated the money for turf.  I also drove past Dwenger before they built the stands and noticed a turf field that wasn't used for games and wondered why it was like that.  I was told by a Dwenger parent that it had to do with a past Archbishop or administrator that had said in no certain terms would their be a stadium.  Evidently the current administration looked at the costs of renting a facility and the loss of gate revenue and decided it was time to build the stadium.

Another school with a deep football tradition is Delta.  They have turf however no visitor locker room by the field.  The locker room is across the parking lot and around the building.  It is a 5 minute walk to the locker room.   So with a 10-15 minute halftime, coach's have to decide if they go to the locker room or not.  If players have to use the bathroom they go to the locker room or can use the regular bathroom that has a few stalls.  A few years ago the visiting team was assessed a penalty due to coming out late at halftime.  A coach was on the field watching the clock and told the locker room how much time was left but by the team ran across the parking lot and onto the field they were late.

Public schools fund turf fields by either capital improvement projects or by private donations.  The problem with the capital improvement projects is there are dollar limits for each project.  So if the project exceeds the amount then the board has to put it on a ballot for a referendum by taxpayers.  What some schools are doing are doing the whole football stadium makeover in phases over a 2-3 year period to get around the referendum.  Some of the schools will get a bulk price on the turf and do baseball, softball, and soccer all at once.  Each of these projects would be individual projects so there would not be a need for the referendum.

  8. Mississinewa over Elwood by as much as they want to score

Eastbrook over MG by at least 40

Alexandria over Frankton in a nail biter

Oak Hill over Blackford by 20

Sectionals begin next week.  Could the CIC have 3 Sectional Champs this year?  Eastbrook is poised to win another title.  Mississinewa is cruising and the early favorite in Sectional 20.  Oak Hill could be the third champion from the CIC.

  9. Eastbrook over Blackford by how ever much they want.

MG over Elwood.  This may be the closest game of the week.

Ole Miss over Alexandria.  Ole Miss always struggles at Alexandria but the Ole Miss backfield has a record day in this year.

Oak Hill over Frankton.  Frankton scored first against Mississinewa but then gave up 42 points before finding the endzone again.

  10. Eastbrook over Alexandria.  2nd half is a running clock as Eastbrook cruises.

Blackford over Elwood.  May be the closest game of the night.

Mississinewa over Frankton.  Mississinewa and Frankton square off for the CIC Tennis title at 4:30 at Mississinewa.  Mississinewa will want to hand Frankton 2 losses on the night.

Oak Hill over Madison-Grant.  Oak Hill wants to bounce back after back to back losses plus being homecoming, Oak Hill is on a mission.

How is there Sophomore class? Do they RBs coming up Like Skeens, Campbell, Do they have a QB coming like the Mccoin kid? Haven't been able to attend to many games the last year, but i seen the Ole Miss teams play a few games when these kids were there and they were good i thought.

The Freshman and Sophomore class both have some talent.  The 8th grade class has even more talent.  Coaching change is playing a part with Ole Miss.  There have also been some position changes for some players on both side of the ball.  The talent is there, it's just getting all the pieces of the puzzle in the right places.

  12. Mississinewa lost in the closing seconds against Pendleton Heights yet PH is 11th based on the votes.  Mississinewa had 3 key players go out with 1 returning in the 4th quarter.  Mississinewa played all of the 4th and most of the 3rd with a sophomore QB that didn't really take any snaps in practice because he starts at WR according to the coach.  So is PH that good or is Mississinewa better if they had everybody the entire game.  It's only week 1 and the tests for most schools will come later in the season.

  13. Having had a son that played for Coach Funk at Mississinewa, I can tell you that Fishers got a top notch coach.  His first year at Mississinewa he only won 1 or 2 games.  The every season after never saw a losing record and advanced almost every year to the second round of Sectionals and finally winning one in 2017.  Prior to winning the Sectional, Mississinewa was in the same sectional that produced 3A and 4A State Finalists/Champions often.  He will have Fishers knocking on the door for Conference title and more very soon.

  14. With the schools that have to forfeit due to COVID outbreaks could we see schools win sectional, regional, semi-state, and state titles that in a normal year wouldn't have a chance?  I am referring to schools with 0, 1, or 2 wins out of the games that they actually played.  Could see a school that has won 1 or 2 games over 3 or 4 years win one of these titles?

  15. Blackford at Eastbrook--Just a couple weeks ago these two teams played each other.  Unfortunately for the Bruins the outcome will be the same.  Panthers advance to play next week.

Tipton at Elwood--The short bus drive to Elwood will be quiet as the Blue Devils focus on how to take care of business. Elwood improved every week this year and broke the loosing streak but they haven't improved enough to beat Tipton.  Tipton advances and plays the second half with a running clock.

Lapel at Frankton--The final game at the current field for Frankton.  Lapel make another short drive to play the final game at the current field.  Lapel wins the final game at the field as Frankton can't wait to be on the turf next year by the high school.

Alexandria at Eastern--Alexandria has had a roller coaster year.  Start out strong in games but by the end of the first half they are done.  This week will be no different as Eastern rolls to a win with a running clock the second half.

Oak Hill at Bellmont--Oak Hill makes their debut back in 3A against a winless Bellmont that played 1 3A and the rest were 4A schools.  This game will be closer than it should be.  In the end Oak Hill advances to the semi-finals.

Marion at Mississinewa--Both teams have new coach's.  They have met the last 3 years with 2 of those games for the sectional title.  Mississinewa won 2 out of the 3 with both winning the sectional title.  Both teams lost key offensive players.  This game will come down to who commits the fewest penalties and turnovers.  If this game was at Marion they would have the edge.  In the end Mississinewa wins on a field goal in the closing seconds of the game.

  16. Eastbrook and MG---Eastbrook will use this game as a practice to work on things that they need to in order to play Thanksgiving weekend.  Eastbrook wins by a lot.

Alexandria and Frankton--Which ever team finds the endzone first wins.  I will go with Frankton for the win.

Mississinewa and Elwood--Mississinewa runs all over an improved Elwood.  Mississinewa will use this game to try some things for their sectional game against Marion.  Mississinewa wins this one.

Oak Hill and Blackford--Blackford is still struggling with numbers.  Oak Hill seems to be getting things together and ready for Sectionals.  In the end Oak Hill wins this one.

  17. Alexandria at Oak Hill--Alexandria has had a tough 2 weeks with losses to Mississinewa and Eastbrook.  Oak Hill is trying to hold on to 2nd place so with this said, Oak Hill runs away with it and Alexandria losses their 3rd straight.

Blackford at Mississinewa--Mississinewa seems to have maybe figured some things out offensively.  The last 2 weeks Mississinewa wasn't tested as they got up big in the first half in both games.  Blackford is improving and is in the hunt for 2nd place in the CIC.  If Mississinewa overlooks a few things Blackford will take advantage.  This game shouldn't be close, but will be closer than it should be.  Mississinewa wins but by 1 TD.

Elwood at Eastbrook--Well Congrats to Elwood for ending the streak.  Eastbrook is just too much for Elwood.  Will Eastbrook score 100 this week?  Will Elwood even get on the board?  Eastbrook by whatever they want.

Madison Grant at Frankton--Didn't think MG would loose to Elwood.  This week Frankton is hoping to sneak in a win.  MG has lost 4 straight so don't count out a 5th straight loss.  But this week MG wins a close one as Elwood is still celebrating the win from last week.

With Mississinewa being down this year, what do they have coming up? Are their middle school groups good or have good players to look out for?

Mississinewa has some talent and size in the Middle School and below.  However, just like other schools some will move, quit football, and choose to play another sport.  They only have 14 or 15 kids on the 7th grade team.  On the 8th grade they have 28 or 29 kids.  Some have yet to hit the weight room due to COVID preventing it this summer.  Like other schools there will be some kids that may not play much right now but end up being a key player in 2-3 years.

  19. 7 hours ago, Giantbeareagle80 said:

Yes, the Sophomore / Freshman class is pretty good.  Middle School programs are solid too.

A lot will change between now and then with the Middle School teams.  I will use Eastbrook as an example as it seems that the Middle School teams are almost always terrible but then when they get to the high school they are top notch.  I saw Frankton Middle School teams play the other night and I will say yes they have talent but at the same time they have kids playing positions that in high school they won't play.  The 8th grade team had the biggest kid on the team playing running back.  He was bigger than the coach's of both teams.  Yes he could run and had speed but with his size it is doubtful he will play running back and middle linebacker in high school.  He was built more like a tight end and is bigger than several high school tight ends.  The 7th grade team has some big kids but they lacked height.  They also had a talented running back.  There is a future for Frankton but still a few years out from being up at the top of the CIC and battling with Eastbrook and Mississinewa for the title.

  20. Alexandria at Mississinewa--Was Frankton that bad or did Mississinewa finally find the talent that they have?  It is Mississinewa's Homecoming game and Alexandria is struggling but always gives Misssissinewa fits.  This game could get interesting depending on which Mississinewa and Alexandria teams show up.  In the end Mississinewa rolls and wins big.

Blackford at Eastbrook--Blackford is battling the COVID bug in the school and with this said Eastbrook is way too much for Blackford.  Eastbrook wins by whatever Adamson wants.

Frankton at Oak Hill--Frankton got stomped, beat, or whatever you want to call it last week.  Bright side for Frankton is it seems their Middle School teams aren't that bad and has talent, but that is the history of Frankton.  Oak Hill may just score 70 or more this week as they cruise to victory.

Madison Grant at Elwood--Could this be the week that Elwood finally wins?  Two of the last 3 games Elwood has kept it close but then again those two games were against Frankton and struggling Blackford.  MG has some talent and remember they were the sectional finals last year.  MG wins this one by a wide margin.

On another note, when does Frankton play their first game on their new field?

  21. Eastbrook at Alex--Eastbrook is just too fast for Alex.  Alex just doesn't have the weapons to keep up.  Eastbrook by a lot.

Elwood at Blackford--Blackford is making the most of what they have.  Last week Blackford cancelled due to COVID and I would imagine that this week is questionable.  But if this game is a go, then Elwood will make it interesting for the first half.  After that it's all Blackford.  Blackford wins this one.

Mississinewa at Frankton--Mississinewa took one on the chin last week against Oak Hill.  Frankton has some talent to make this game interesting.  But in the end Mississinewa is just too much for Frankton.  Mississinewa wins, but this game is closer than it should be.

Oak Hill at Madison Grant--Both teams have improved since last year.  Oak Hill pulled out the win last week against Mississinewa.  MG stayed with Ole Miss for the first half a couple of weeks ago.  Oak Hill pulls this game out and wins.

If you pull up the enrollment #'s from IHSAA, Mississenwa is a transfer or 2 away from being back in 3A, they are the bottom team in 4A. Talking with some admin at Alex, the numbers are way up and are creeping closer to 3A.

    image.thumb.png.5679fe5da12714db731b7bd61a2baf3b.png

Another thought on this is that with the success factor Mississinewa could be bumped down to 3A to keep the classes balanced.  Also with the growth that Yorktown, Danville, and Norwell have seen in population, Mississinewa could be in 3A when the next alignment takes place.

On the other hand if Eastbrook could move back to 3A based on success factor and/or enrollment.  Remember a few years ago Eastbrook was moved up to 3A due to enrollment.  Their district has seen some growth in residents but not students yet.

Last time Eastbrook and Mississinewa were both 3A they were in the same sectional.  If they would both move to 3A, Oak Hill stays in 3A, and Alexandria moves into 3A, it is likely they all could be in the same sectional.
