  1. First off , a 21 point win is a butt whipping . Yes I did consider Penn's 26-10 loss a butt whipping . I would agree that Penn has slipped a notch or two since Geez retired . But , Mishawaka also improved under Bart Curtis . A team that wins by 14+ points is Clearly the better team 95% of the time . lets not forget the 48-7 game just 2 years ago . I think Cory is trying to make Penn better , that is why he wants to schedule top In state and out of state competition weeks 1-3 . You can't tell me that Penn gets more from playing Mishawaka than Cathedral . I could care less about regular season records or rivalry games , as long as they are better prepared for the playoffs .

The Penn-Mishawaka games have been pretty competitive over the past 10-20 years I've lived in this area.  Penn has won more than they've lost for sure, as they should with being the biggest school in the area.  But Mishawaka has won a handful and I've seen a number of others that Mishawaka lost that still meets the criteria of "competitive".  By that standard, Penn hasn't been competitive with the "elite" competition they scheduled for this season.

If their goal is to have a full schedule of games more competitive than the Mishawaka game, they'd be wise to change conferences because Mishawaka has been the only team in the conference to beat them in how many years?  40 or so?

Going back 20 years , Really ? here are some scores from 2000 to present

    35-7 , 38-0 , 54-14 , 50-0 , 51-0 , 47-14 , 48-14 , 28-7 , 39-0 , 28-0 , 17-0 , 17-7 , 31-14 , 21-7 , 28-7 , 48-7 . That's 16 games that were not competitive .

It happens , you play nationally ranked teams on one of your biggest down years and with an injured starting Qb , any team would get shellacked under those circumstances .

Penn has not fared too well against elite competition

The Mishawaka matchup was a terrific rivalry and a community rallying point

And a strong gate for both schools

Remember when Nebraska and Oklahoma stopped playing?   Texas and A&M?   Pitt and West Virginia?   Missouri and Kansas?  New conference alliances sometimes destroy historic old rivalries.

Penn gets more from losing to elite programs than beating NIC competition . Losing to ST X and Flossmor helps them prepare for the playoffs . Penn wont do anything this year , but in most years it would . There aren't to many Indiana teams that would consistently beat those 2 .

You guys got hosed.  Mishawaka got tired of waiting and found another date for the ball.

    It happens.

How did Penn get hosed? Looks like Penn is looking for a better date for the ball , as in top out of state competition . Mishawaka may win the game this year  , and have been competitive in recent years , but Penn is 47-15 all time vs Mish . The majority of the 47 weren't close .

Penn claiming moral victories in a double digit loss confirms my point that it is no longer the power it was.  Sad times.

(And I too am not convinced that was CG's best team of all-time.  They should have lost the week prior to AVON'S best team of all-time.)

Let's make this fun.  What happens first?

A:  Penn wins another state championship.

B:  A second-tier MIC (Lawrence Central, Lawrence North, North Central, Pike) team wins a state championship.

    I'm going with B.

Again beating a dead horse. No moral victories here. People every year say Penn would be a .500 team every year in Central Indiana. In 2015 they beat Carmel in the Semisate then gave CG a good game at LOS. So I would guess they would of been top 3 of the Mic that year. They beat A top tier MIC team last year. Penn is extremely down this year, so yes they would be in the bottom of the Mic this year. Look at CG this year 0-3 and BD 1-2 . Are they washed up too?  I wonder why people not affiliated with Penn always feel the need to start threads like this. Penn will be fine .

Their 51 wins are padded by the fact that they have little in-state competition on a regular basis in northern Indiana.  It's really not their fault.

2-2 versus Carmel is impressive, but what happened the following week?  (Outscored 91-30).

People hate the truth, but Penn is no longer the power it once was in the 90s and would be a middle of the road/.500 team annually if they were in central Indiana.

Ya we hear this every year , nothing like beating a dead horse .

Nobody said it was a horrible program.   "Soft" implies that the program is not as tough and rugged as it has been in the past.  You've seen enough Penn - Ben Davis games to understand

The 57-11 record is impressive, but when measured against the out manned NIC competition, where Penn is 2 , 3 and even 4 times the size of it competitors , the record becomes more suspect.   Didn't Penn go nearly a decade without losing a conference game?

And Penn's big blowout losses at LOS have tarnished their Golden image.

Used to be a great program

Now just a very good one

It was just 2015  at LOS when Penn gave what many to believe was the best Center Grove team of all time a very good game . It was 21-16 in the fourth quarter before CG scored again . It was a very competitive game and probably the closest game CG had all year .
