    This week’s games (week 5):

    BNL (2-2, 2-0 HHC) at Seymour (2-2, 2-1 HHC)

Floyd Central (3-1, 1-0 HHC) at Jeffersonville (0-4, 0-2 HHC)

New Albany (1-3, 1-1 HHC) at Columbus East (1-3, 1-1 HHC)

Madison (1-3) at Jennings County (2-2)

    Note:

    - Floyd Central received 4 votes in the media poll this week but none in the coaches poll. I believe they’re the only HHC team to receive votes in either poll this season so far.

  2. There is a ton of parity in the Mid-State Conference this year.  Last week i was very surprised by Martinsville beating Decatur Central, Franklin beating Whiteland, and Plainfield only beating Perry Meridian by 1 point.  With that being said, my picks for week 5 are:

    Plainfield

    Franklin

    Whiteland

    Mooresville

I really expected LC to take a step forward this year as a program given all the people returning. Obviously, losing to LN and WC is not a jaw dropping surprise, but does anyone have any insight as to why LC is struggling this year?

In the last 2 games LC has really gotten pushed around at the line of scrimmage.  Our offensive line isn't giving QB Bryson Luter any time to throw and isn't opening any holes for our running backs.  Our defensive front 7 isn't getting any pass rush on the QB and keeps getting gashed for long runs out of the backfield.  Our special teams has done a poor job of covering kicks and have been constantly allowing long returns.  We do have injuries to key players like WR Ahmaad Duff and LB Mateo Russell, but that's not an excuse as the players that are on the field need to do their damn jobs.  Turning the season around starts with giving a great effort in practice every day, being a lot more physical at the line of scrimmage, and frankly just wanting to win more than their opponent on gameday.

8-0 last week...lets see if we can keep it going.

Avon @ Ben Davis:  Avon hung tough with a solid LN outfit at home last week but came up short whereas BD made the statement of the early season in throttling one of Ohio's best.  Giants may be due for a let down and I expect a bit of a slow start before they begin to roll.  BD wins 42-17.

Fishers @ Pike:  A second straight blowout likely for Fishers as they get the "other" MIC bottom feeder, albeit an improved Pike squad.  The Red Devils will rely heavily on the home field to keep this one close, but I just don't see it.  Tigers roll 38-13.

Hamilton Southeastern @ North Central:  Royals got revenge on their homefield last week avenging 2022's semi-state loss to Carroll.  They'll breathe easier this week as the work in progress that is NC awaits.  Royals win 49-7.

Homestead @ Noblesville:  An interesting matchup of two often overlooked squads in their respective geographic regions of the state.  Spartans earned a moral victory last week with a close loss to Carmel and are out to prove they haven't taken a step back.  Noblesville trying to prove is annual August success is not a fluke this time.  I'll take the home team 27-20.

Indianapolis Cathedral @ Brownsburg:  Best game in the state this weekend in my opinion and both coming off blowout wins.  The traditional power against the upstart squad who hasn't won one in over 30 years.  Were this an October/postseason game I would take the Irish but it always seems like the Bulldogs get up for an early season contest which raises expectations.  'Dogs win this one 27-24.

Indianapolis Roncalli @ Franklin Central:  Franklin Central's time is NOW.  Booming enrollment, solid facilities, and an investment in the football program we have not seen since the 80s.  This is an underrated "rivalry" on the southeast side of Indianapolis as many families have folks on both sides of this one.  I think the Flashes pull a mild upset here.  20-17.

Westfield @ Lawrence Central:  An underrated game on the schedule and two teams coming off blowout wins and looking to get into the state title discussion.  I could see this one going either way and am going to take the easy way out and take the home team by 3 in what could also be viewed as a mild upset.  Bears win 30-27.

Zionsville @ Lebanon:  Lebanon is growing but is not quite ready for the prime time that awaits.  Zionsville gets a breather here after a nail biting win at home last week against Pike.  Eagles win comfortably 37-14.

    What say you?

Hamilton SE by about 56 if they want to

    Plus Carmel and Center Grove...

    6-2 last week.

Christian Brothers (MO) @ Carmel:  Hounds get Missouri power CBC and their high powered offense.  A pair of high level Big Ten recruits on each side of the ball including a WR headed to Ohio State.  I do think the travel and the fact that this is CBC's first contest whereas Carmel has already played bodes well for the 'Hounds but I think they come up short here.  CBC wins 34-23.

Fishers @ Pike:  A second straight blowout likely for Fishers as they get the "other" MIC bottom feeder, albeit an improved Pike squad.  The Red Devils will rely heavily on the home field to keep this one close, but I just don't see it.  Tigers roll 38-13.

Fort Wayne North @ Lawrence North:  Speaking of high level recruits. North Side was without their combo last week and is rumored to once again be shorthanded on the bus ride to Indy this weekend.  Sorry but that is a recipe for disaster against a MIC outfit like LN.  Wish them a speedy recovery but gimme the Wildcats here 30-14.

Hamilton Southeastern @ North Central:  Royals got revenge on their homefield last week avenging 2022's semi-state loss to Carroll.  They'll breathe easier this week as the work in progress that is NC awaits.  Royals win 49-7.

Oakland (TN) @ Center Grove:  Don't know a ton about the Tennessee squad other than the fact that they appear in the national polls.  I like CG on their homefield regardless in what I can only describe as a homer pick.  CG wins 23-21.

Warren Central @ Carroll (Fort Wayne):  Don't know where to start here but I never thought I would see big bad Warren Central get bullied at the line of scrimmage and then have inadequate speed against ANYONE, but here we are.  Taking nothing away from Snider but that final score shocked me.  It doesn't get any easier this week as the Warriors travel to Carroll.  Gut check time for the Warriors and though I think they'll improve week by week, I have to take Carroll here.  Chargers win 28-20.
