Hell yes!  I’ve always said there are advantages.  Just not the ones generally cited.

Many of the advantages are the same as you would have found 30-40 years ago in small town schools.   Changing times have, to a degree, left us with the P/Ps as analogues of those small towns.  Multi-generational kids (good athletes go to college, return “home” and the next generation starts all over), involved parents who keep an eye and their kids...and yours, community and generational pride, respect for coaches, etc.

Part of the reason I respect places like HH and GS is because they fit that very model....but even then it’s hard because so many kids once they leave home just don’t come back.

In my case, I never went back because there wasn’t much work for gigolos in Franklin County.

People come and go on GID, but Lysander making me LOL at my work desk will always remain a constant

IHSAA Champions network should have picked up the WL at Chatard game, and let Hamilton County TV Sports pick up Westfield at Carmel. The other IHSAA Champions Network will be at the East Central at Mooresville game (which will be another good one). WHMB TV 40 is at Franklin vs New Palestine. Surprised SRN selected Scecina vs Heritage Christian.

Perhaps all the networks were upset also that Chatard wasn't playing at the field of Champions and boycotted!

    Now this, I can support!

Just some fun facts (because one team continues to come up in this thread).  Since 1983 (36 years) Chatard has lost 23 times in the tournament.  6 times to Roncalli, 3 to New Pal, 3 to Memorial, 2 to Danville, 2 to Cathedral, 2 to North Montgomery, and once each to Brownsburg, Franklin Central, Beech Grove, Heritage Hills, and NorthWood.  Of the teams Chatard has played more than once in the tournament, they have losing records to only Roncalli (3-6), New Pal (2-3), Memorial (1-3), and Cathedral (1-2).  13 times Chatard did not lose a game in the tournament beating SB St. Joe (3), Andrean (3), West Lafayette (2), NorthWood (2), Norwell, Luers, and Hamilton Heights for state championships.  And . . . as has been mentioned numerous times, lost once in the championship game to NorthWood.  Not a bad run.  While, I have my doubts of the future of high school football in the long run, I can think of no other sport that is better at developing character (win or lose/good program or not).

Thanks for posting - is there a database with more info like this? AlmanacSports.com is a pretty good one

Best was our 2000 championship team (AC) that should have lost in the sectionals to Southern Wells who went on to win the 2001 championship. The game was pretty much over, but SW wanted to rub it in for slaying the proverbial giant and fumbled. AC got into field goal range and hit a game winner to move on their historic run. The 2004 AC Sectional championship team was a longshot. They were once again pitted against SW who had whipped them by around 40 in the regular season and upset them. I always say it was because of the Jeff and Joel magic (former WZBD radio announcers during those late 90s to early 2000s glory days) came back to do that game after not doing it for a couple years.

Love stories like this. Thanks for sharing!

Gibson southern 2012.  First year of nick hart as coach. Went 7-2...OT in semis of sectionals. Win on goal line stand....following week beat memorial 24-21 in OT....then played 12-0 Charlestown who were basically having a 2018 pioneer type season in terms of scoring and defense (I think it was an average margin of 65-3) ...were down 49-21 at the half. Came back to win 56-49 and allowed only 56 yards in the 2nd half.

it was GIbson Southerns 1st sectional championship and 1st regional championship in the schools history.

semi state faced Chatard lol. 56-7 loss but most GS fans laugh at it as the first real taste of top tier football

I'll never forget following the Charlestown-GS game on my phone knowing BC would play the winner in the Semi State.  Turned it off after seeing the 49-21 halftime score.  Couldn't believe GS came back when I found out the next morning!

I'm not sure if they are a favorite. I think New Pal and Cathedral are right there at the top as favorites in 5A. That being said, I think the numbers that the percentages come from are skewed only because of some of the conference opponents New Pal has (not in New Pal's control). Also there are 8 teams that can boost or drop for New Pal by the numbers in Sagarin and only 5 for Cathedral (since sagarin does not include out of state teams).

Actual talent and play between the 2 (New Pal and Cathedral) I think it's a toss up. Just my personal opinion.

    I agree

In light of these two conferences being discussed elsewhere - I revived this thread.

Going into the final week of the regular season the CCC/CI cross conference games stand at 5 wins for the CCC and 2 wins for the CI.  Both of the CCC wins are against Roncalli (wins by Columbus North and Southport).  Chatard (2-0), Brebeuf (1-0)and Guerin (1-0) are undefeated vs.CI teams.

The final cross conference games this weekend are:

Bloomington South v. Chatard (at Chatard) - this will be South’s only game this year vs. the CCC

Terre Haute North v. Brebeuf (at Brebeuf)

I’m going to favor both the CCC teams putting the final cross conference results at 7-2 favoring the CCC.

    Any other predictions/thoughts?

Haven’t seen much from Muledriver this Fall - who is a long-time follower of the CI.

Sounds about right to me.  Are the CCC vs. CI schedules set for next year yet?

Would you rather see Chatard-WL on a crisp dark October Friday night or in mid November with sleet, mud and wind?

Mid-November with sleet, mud and wind if it means it's in the Sectional Championship game

Already going to have a very tough game with Brebeuf on that desired crisp, dark October Friday night

I will say the same thing I always say as to this.  Indianapolis Archdiocesan schools can’t even talk with their own CYO kids on an individual basis as regards sports let alone kids from public schools.  These are the rules for the Archdiocese schools (and Brebeuf has signed onto that agreement as well).

That said, if you can evidence in some fashion that a private/parochial is doing the things you are accusing them of - then more power to you.

I am all for nailing hides to the wall in the case of violators.  My guess is, though, that if there are hides at all to be nailed, a fair amount of those will be public schools.
