The glorious part of the post-season is you never know who's gonna show up on the gridiron. Great example from around the area would be Bosse back in 2010.

All Washington wanted was the chance to play. When you don't have a lot of post-season success in your history, the opportunity to play for a sectional title is paramount for your program. So to answer your question, there were a lot of supporters of the program who indeed thought they had a chance against Sullivan.

Friday's game v. West Vigo has been cancelled according to the local paper. A statement from the administration said that the team has been struck down will illnesses; however, at the time there is no evidence pointing towards the illnesses being COVID-19 related. Sad to see; was looking forward to the match up. That  being said, you can count me out of any further weekly predictions henceforth. I will not be a contributing factor for further losses for my Hatchets lol

Here's to no further cancellations starting week 2 gentlemen!

Best of luck to the Alices as well. The entire town felt a gut punch after the contact tracing report; hell, I felt the pain and I live in Louisville, KY.

I think both towns would relish the opportunity to play each other in the post-season! Would definitely be deserving of a special trip home on my end. If it's played in Vincennes, I'll have to be sure to go ahead and call up Bobe's Pizza early for the pre-game meal. They got something magical in those ovens on 6th Street I swear to God. Or Main Street. Decisions, decisions...

Big key for the Washington-WV match up will be line play IMO. After losing a do-it-all QB, how will Washington's offense look? They're wanting to be a 50-50 run/pass team. That will not be able to happen unless the offensive line shows improvement over last year. If they're able to open some holes in the running game, I think we've got some nice depth at the RB position to help ease the transition at QB. I think the offense will only get better as the season rolls on.

I hope to see the defense take a step forward as well. They showed up in spots last year against teams they were supposed to; now I'd like to see them make some stops against teams have rolled us or are expected to roll us. Coach Morris is a defensive minded HC and I'm very hopeful to see our defense take a step forward in Year 2. Look for them to run a base 4-4 scheme.

I'm not sure what to expect. West Vigo returns 16 starters. The skill guys all return and both QBs return. WV used a 2 QB system last year and it didn't work too well. Coach Cobb said he was gonna name a starter this week so I'm curious to see who he chooses. Marrs would be my choice, I think he has the better arm and touch. Had a really nice TD pass in the scrimmage. He had the most success last season too. Defense might be a work in progress. Not sure what is back on that side of the ball. I know they have a few new guys out that haven't played in years prior. Carter Murphy a 6'3" 230lb WR/TE who also plays baseball is back this year. He should be a nice weapon for whoever the QB is. I'm looking forward to this game. Should be a good one!!

Sadly, no I will not be in attendance. I'm a displaced Hatchet alum who lives in Louisville, KY now. Haven't made the trip to West Terre Haute since my sophomore year of HS (when I attended Edgewood) back in 2010. Y'all whipped us pretty good that year. You guys seemed massive up front and had a fullback who I'm still convinced was at least 22 years old lol

Fingers crossed that both teams make it out healthy. And, best of luck to tour Vikings this year!

Also looking forward to the Washington-West Vigo match up for obvious reasons. We graduated our stud QB who's going to be playing baseball up in your neck oft he woods at ISU. Very curious to see what the offense looks like after relying on his athleticism last year. What're your expectations for the Vikings this year?

As a Hatchet alum/fan, I'd welcome the opportunity to have Vincennes Lincoln back on the schedule each year. Losing them and Jasper to the SIAC effectively cut out our two biggest rivals (although, we are 3-63 all-time against Jasper with no wins since 1979...to be honest not much of a rivalry now that I've typed that out) We've got a trophy game with North Daviess HS (1A) and they're trying to push a new trophy rivalry with Pike Central, with whom we own a 36-4 record against with no losses since 2004. Just my opinion, but we should be able to beat a 1A school year in and year out (13-7 all-time against them so obviously we don't, but that should be the expectation) and PC is...well PC. Nothing against them at all and I'd love to see our former Coach build something over there, but for the time being I believe the record speaks for itself.

While our record vs Vincennes wasn't the greatest (20-61-4 all-time), it was still a game that the community really took a lot of pride in. Easy travel right across Hwy 50, two historic stadiums that were WPA projects; many times families lined up against each other on these fields. A win over Lincoln could really inject some pride and positivity, regardless of our final season record. If there was any way we could schedule that game again, I'd love to see it happen.

There was talk of building a new football/soccer complex out by one of the elementary schools. Allegedly already had the land purchased (if my memory serves me right) and was ready to move forward but the town voted it down. There's an increasing amount of families living in Washington that send their kids over to Barr-Reeve, so I can only speculate that didn't help the cause.

As an alum, I'd rather see them invest in Hatchet Hallow and give it a face lift. @DumfriesYMCAis right, it's a very cool field and I have fond memories of playing there. I think it was a WPA project from the 1930s. I know the away seating has been replaced with nice new bleachers recently. Last year they took a step in the right direction by covering parts of that concrete track with some old hand-me-down turf from somewhere else. Looked significantly better than having that ugly thing visible; also probably made it a bit easier to land on. I can recall many bloodied arms and ripped pants from skidding on that rack.

A pipe dream for me would be to see Hatchet Hallow rip up that track and get turf all the way up to the stands. I love the way it looks at the Reitz Bowl and I think it'd look just as nice there.Would be a huge boost for the entire program, which also just took control of the youth league from the local YMCA.

A source tells me that Sloan is getting Division I track interest after a strong junior year. I've seen plenty of FB guys take the track route through college to avoid the pounding on the body, especially linemen.

Love the idea of an interstate all-star game. I actually did a project about an interstate all star game during one of my classes while getting my masters degree. Granted mine was one a much smaller scale with little actual research done (SW Indiana v. Western KY). I called it the Kentuckiana All-Star Bowl. I had it played in the Reitz Bowl due to the game being in June, but a winter all-star game would have to be played at LOS. I have a strong feeling that this sort of game was in the works to be conducted down in Evansville (but was curtailed by COVID) because I thought they stole my idea lol. Unfortunately, I can't seem to locate any data that suggests this game was ever in existence.

I think a game vs KY or IL makes great sense. KY feels like a better option in my opinion, as I feel IL has more beef with MO when it comes to football. Feel free to correct me if i am wrong on that statement as I'm basing that solely off of living in STL for a year and the vibe I got from the HS football scene.

DE gets all the glory, but DT do all the dirty work.  Curry manhandles people at the line of scrimmage, and has great speed and technique to break thru and pressure the passer.  He is like a bigger version of Aaron Donald

At 6-5. 285, he will be a monster

Interior pass rush has become more and more valuable with each passing season. A DT in a 4-3 scheme or a DE in a 3-4 scheme is much more of a pass rush threat than ever before and those who can do it cash in big time during contract negotiations (see Aaron Donald, Chris Jones, DeForest Buckner, etc.)

Coach, I could never hate on one of Petersburg's finest dining establishments. They've never let me leave without a full belly before! I hope you all pull out the W against them. The excitement that would come with PC beating a team out of Louisville is one that all of your fellow PAC members would share.

Us on the north side of the river are still rooting for ya coach. That is, at least until week 5 😉 

Hearing PC got a week one opponent. Louisville Waggener will allegedly make the trip to Petersburg. I live in Louisville and asked a buddy of mine about them and he said they're very fast (can be expected coming out of Louisville.) The real question, will they stop for Fish Hut on the way out of town?

this is exciting news though.  My senior year of high school was Coach Harts 1st season as coach for the football team (2012?) and let me tell you the difference in atmosphere in the school once he arrived immediately changed….for all sports… he brought an energy to the football team and it spread like wildfire in the best way.  GS sports really became a pride and joy for the community and many of the kids and it definitely shows still
 

beyond that, I think this shows another level of commitment to the Gibson Southern community….it seems like every year there are a few talking heads that ask if Coach Hart will ever consider leaving GS for reitz or a college program or some other big school gig..and this kinda just makes me think all of that can be put to rest.  Taking the position as AD, at least in my opinion, means he is going to be sticking around for a while…and that’s always good news 

My senior year of HS was his 1st year as well. If my memory serves me correctly, we scrimmaged y'all to open the season. I could tell right then and there that something special was brewing at GS. His pedigree was undeniable and the results have been nothing short of fruitful. I got to coach against y'all twice when I was in college and it was like coaching against a small college program.

It makes sense for Anderson since they hosted the Colts training camp for so many years. 

 

There is major value for hosting all-star games like this when your campus is essentially dead during the summer. You hit the nail on the head.
