2nd this. Hats off to Lawrenceburg. Really good football team that laid it all out there. Absolutely nothing to hang your heads about. That was a state championship caliber team.

I hope Chatard wins regional next year, bumps to 4A, and stays there for good.

I agree.  Lawrenceburg came out ready to play with a great game plan. Hats off to to those boys and the coaching staff.  Chatard just finds a way to get it done.  Overall a great game!

I might be crazy, but I think this year's team is legitimately better than last. The individual parts might not look as good, but the sum of the parts seems to be better. Nothing against last year's team - they lost to the eventual state champ by 2 points in the regional.

Another note, and clearly this is a personal opinion that will not be popular in some circles, but they simply threw too much last year. They were over reliant on a QB who was gifted as an athlete, but didn't seem to be able to get over the hump with decision making despite being a 4-year starter. Imagine this year's running attack with Yoon's passing ability when you need a big play or the defense is stacking the box.

My personal opinion is that Chatard is pretty tough against the run.  If Lawrenceburg is to have sustained success on offense, they are going to have to throw the ball.

Lawrence Central's D-line was not big, they were however fast and used technique along with their speed very well. The Irish coaching staff I think caught on as the game went along. LC's D-line would come up the field so hard that when the Irish would run inside zone or trap they could rip off 8-9 yards. It was almost like the d-line would run themselves out of making the tackle on inside runs. Early the Irish tried running outside zone but D-line and LB's were too fast for that. When they ran it up the gut they had much more success.

With the sacks I think high snaps were a big contribution to that. Many times the QB had to jump up to get the snap then look for reads. With the speed of the D-line quick reads and release were a necessity, which was not easy when you have to jump up and snag a bad snap. I had not seen much of that this season from their center which makes me think he was trying to get out quickly and his snaps suffered because of it. Of course I could always be wrong and not have a clue just speculating on the eyeball test.

Good points....I totally agree on the inside zone.  It way way more open than the outside.

I was at the Cathedral/Brownsburg game and a couple things stood out.  Brownsburg dominated on special teams, blocking kicks and getting big returns. Their defensive line was getting penetration all night, getting some big stops that their special teams turned into short fields.

Cathedral seems to have cleaned up their special teams and their offensive line seems to have gotten better, but hard to really tell against recent opposition.  But another thing the Brownsburg game showed was that Danny O’Neil can throw on the run, and he’s got some good targets to hit.  Cathedral put points on the board against Brownsburg even with O’Neil scrambling for his life all game.

I don’t know who wins, but I don’t think this will be a defensive struggle like the past couple meetings.  I can see both teams putting up 30+ points.

Both teams seem to have improved from the start of the season....Cathedral can definitely put up some offense.  I like the Irish 42-35.

Does anyone know if there will be a Cathedral tailgate for this game?  I always arrive early so it doesn't matter to me, but I've had a couple of fans ask me and I really don't know.

Tickets will be available at the gate, cash only.

There is a tailgate so come out.  Also, use this link to purchase tickets. https://sites.eventlink.com/s/cathedral-high-school/Tickets

When you play poorly, it's almost certain you will lose.  So it was tonight for the Irish.  Tackling was not as good as it should have been, and the better team won.  Hats off to the Bulldogs and I sure hope the Irish get better before the playoffs, or sooner.

I just hope Danny O'Neil is OK.  He went down late in the game.

Also, the officiating crew was subpar.  Lots of missed calls tonight.  And please, no whining about this observation.

The Irish made a lot of mistakes.  The officiating was bad, but Brownsburg played well and beat us fair and square, no excuses.  Danny is fine, but the Irish need to learn from this loss and get better.  I am more concerned about Wooten's injury.  Overall, a team with very little varsity experience.  I believe we will be fine.....

Unless Brownsburg improves a lot week 1 to 2, I am picking the Irish by a couple TDs. Of course, I once picked the Buffalo Bills to win the Super Bowl in the 90s.

I was thinking the same thing....however I really think the Irish need to improve upon last Friday's game to win this one.

IHSAA claimed last year a "null year" with COVID thus making this the first year of the Success Factor cycle. Whether that holds any water as they evaluate next season is simply a wait-and-see for the Irish faithful. We'll have a little drop-off, but not much. And our freshmen class is our most talented since this senior class. So, wherever they want us, we'll rally.

Agreed 100%. We will be down a bit next year (particularly on D), however there are plenty of talented Sophomores and Juniors who will step up next year and the Irish will be just fine.  Tons of offensive players returning next year....

Westfield will probably disagree with you on being the 2nd toughest team the Irish have played but at the same time the Cathedral offense has come a long way since week 1.

Westfield has reason to....its seems like a year ago Cathedral played Westfield.  Best of luck to the Rocks, I feel like a great game is brewing.

Yes, penalties are one of the things needs to be improved. In no way shape or for will I bash on the QB. I think he has played spectacular. Actually in parts of the season the QB's awareness and escape capabilities have extended plays and covered up with some miscues running the ball.  I wasn't expecting my post to end up turning into bashing the QB as I was talking Offense in general (penalties have been a problem at times on both sides of the ball).  I just think they need to get improve in some areas (nothing more than that they are still solid).

I don't think you were bashing on him.  He hasn't had his best game (hitting open receivers) the past 2 games however he is very good and young.  As you stated, penalties have been an issue.  Overall the offense needs to get their rhythm back a bit, they'll be fine.  Obviously, defense has been stellar and I don't see them giving up many points to anyone.

Isn’t the QB only a sophomore?  From what I’ve read he is well beyond where he should be at this age and a pretty good QB.

Yes, he is....and he is damn good.  These past 2 weeks haven't been his best but he is an absolute work horse and he will right the ship.  But you are right, he is well beyond where he should be at this point IMO.

Are all teams "supposed" to be intimidated by CG?  Just curious....

For the record, I think CG rolls in this game.  Just dont think everyone is intimidated by CG

Why would you ask that?  Fight starter?  Nobody is supposed to but much like Cathedral's opponents, many are.  LN wasn't.

No, not starting a fight.  Just dont think when you get to this level teams are intimidated, at least I would hope not.  Anything can happen, I doubt it will.  CG is legitimately good.
