Jay County has always fascinated me as a program. They're a 4A school competing in a 1A-2A conference, but have never dominated like a 4A should. However, I think Jay County can potentially surprise some people next year. Here's why.
1. Grant Zgunda is an IFCA Hall of Fame coach who has succeeded with Delta and Madison-Grant. His teams at Jay are starting to come along.
2. Coming off most successful season since 2018 (still not successful)
3. Was surprisingly competitive with Kokomo in their sectional game (lost 21-14, most people expected Kokomo to put a running clock on them, this can build confidence)
4. Only losing 6 seniors total
AC and Bluffton will most likely beat them, but expect Jay to at least have a winning record.

Please provide an exact percentage of p/p membership in the IHSAA broken down by class.
6A: 3.1% (Cathedral)
5A: 0%
4A: 9.4% (Memorial, Brebeuf, Roncalli, Culver Academy, Dwenger, SB St. Joe's)
3A: 6.3% (Guerin, Chatard, Mish. Marian, FW Concordia)
2A: 12.9% (Hammond Noll, Andrean, LCC, Luers, Mater Dei, Indy Scecina, Heritage Christian, Ritter)
1A: 6.9% (Park Tudor, Providence, Covenant, Lutheran)

Both teams are good. I'll take Luers by a hair and I'll take North Posey to win state.

Triton seems questionable on defense but they're lucky to have home field advantage. With that being said, Vikings 27-21.

Are there any schools with the name “county” in it any good? I know Crawford county is trash from previous posts
im guessing these “county” schools face logistical challenges because so spread out
Jay and Jennings are slowly coming along.

The question should be asked to those not bias.
Indy area guy here. The answer is: yes, Ringer should unanimously be Mr. Football.

Might not be a running clock but I'll take Heritage Hills big.

Great visual representation of Frankfort football from 2014-present.

I know that they had around 10 sophomores contributing to varsity this year and their freshman team was solid. Also heard that one of their 8th grade teams finished undefeated. So I guess that they have talent coming up.
Not bad. Hopefully they don't transfer out. They probably will though.

Ok. Somebody give me some insight on Hamilton Heights.
I don't think that they're any better than Tippecanoe Valley.

I can't sleep on Paoli here. Gimme NP though, 28-26.

Anybody know how successful their lower levels are? Youth program development is usually the best indicator of how a team's future looks. If lower levels of Portage football stink, it's going to be a long few years for them.

Neither Bloomington school will make it to Lucas Oil Stadium
Yep. Will be the Sectional 13 winner whether it be Plainfield, Decatur, Harrison, or even McCutcheon.

Giants prove their worth tomorrow night. Gimme Ben Davis by 2 scores. 35-21

What happened? Looked unstoppable against Franklin...
I'll be honest with you, I have no idea. I do think that bad weather played a part in it. It also could be more of a Franklin bad than Plainfield good thing because look what happened to Franklin against Decatur.
-
I can't pick us right now in Sectional 13 with the way that we've looked offensively against Whiteland and Martinsville.
-
I think Tippecanoe Valley keeps it close.
In the first quarter.

5A with 63 teams? East Central will feast.
-
There might be 4 running clocks going on at once this week.
EC 72 - Greensburg 0
South Dearborn 48 - Rushville 20
Lawrenceburg 52 - Connersville 6
Batesville 41 - Franklin County 0

Hoping this is true as that puts Harrison in a hopeful spot as well. Last year Plainfield was able to comeback after losing to Harrison earlier in the season to claim the win at sectional. I'm hoping a similar fate happens this year where Harrison's able to return that favor.
Sectional 13 might be 5A's best sectional from top to bottom. Plainfield, Harrison, and DC all look like contenders and McCutcheon is no slouch either. It will either be Sectional 13's winner or a Bloomington team that reaches State and I don't think that it will be a Bloomington.

Well... it's that time of week again. Time for another write-up about by far the weirdest and most balanced conference in the State of Indiana.
POWER RANKINGS
1. Plainfield (6-1) (1)Quakers dominate with a 38-3 home victory over the Franklin Grizzly Cubs. If the Quakers play like this during sectional, they are capable of going to LOS and possibly even winning. What a dominating performance by the Quakers. This is how great teams bounce back after setbacks. Mid-State, take notes.
2. Decatur Central (5-2) (2)
After trailing 28-7, the Hawks bounced back and outscored Greenwood 56-14 for the rest of the game. Part of this could be attributed to Greenwood's poor defense, but what an offensive explosion by a top team in the conference. Quakers, look out. The likely rematch in Sectional 13 will be fun.
3. Martinsville (4-3) (5)
Arties pick up a close victory over a solid Perry Meridian squad. If they win their next two games against Mooresville and Plainfield, the Arties will be crowned as conference champions.
4. Mooresville (3-4) (8)
Mooresville surprises with a big victory over a solid Whiteland team. The Pioneers are a very solid 4A team and may have a better chance at their sectional with the Indy 4A private schools appearing to be down from normal.
5. Franklin (4-3) (4)
Franklin drops after their blowout loss against Plainfield. This is a solid team but they do not appear as a legitimate contender in the south region of 5A let alone a tough sectional.
6. Whiteland (3-4) (3)
Whiteland continues their dropoff after their loss to Mooresville. Franklin and Whiteland both looked bad this week, and the team that benefits most from this is Terre Haute South, especially with their win over Brebeuf. Watch out for Terre Haute South in Sectional 14.
7. Greenwood (4-3) (7)
Greenwood has an offensive explosion against Decatur but still falls short, especially when it matters most. I'm still not completely sold on Greenwood but they can rise if they can beat their Johnson County competition. Good season for Woodmen standards though
8. Perry Meridian (2-5) (6)
Perry falls to dead last after their close loss to Martinsville. They could very well be 6-1 right now, though. Perry's biggest issue is that they are 0-4 in games decided by one possession, something that they need to fix.
PREDICTIONS
Plainfield at WhitelandWhiteland will play hard on senior night, teams usually do. I expect a close game between these two squads with the Quakers narrowly pulling it out.
Plainfield 21, Whiteland 17
Greenwood at Franklin
Franklin bounces back against Greenwood in another high-scoring battle for the Woodmen.
Franklin 42, Greenwood 35
Mooresville at Martinsville
Another fun battle for Morgan County should be expected here, but I'll give this one to the Arties. Will be a fun game from a fan perspective.
Martinsville 28, Mooresville 21
Perry Meridian at Decatur Central
Perry finally records a one-possession victory. I'll go with the upset here. I have to take one upset every week, right? I mean, it's happened so far...
Perry Meridian 24, Decatur Central 23

Meanwhile, the leader in the Mid-State has lost to the second place team, blew out the third place team and was a missed FG away from losing at home to the last place team.

AP pollsters did such a great job this week.
Bloomington North is clearly the best team in 5A based on what we've seen so far.
Harrison is clearly over Plainfield right now. Best team in Sectional 13 for sure.
Peru would totally annihilate Vincennes. Great choice.
North White proves that they belong in the poll with their close victory over the mighty Caston Comets.
What a poll.

8-Man
in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Posted
8 man is very small right now. The teams are currently Deaf, Dugger Union, Rock Creek, Waldron, Trader's Point, and Purdue Poly - Broad Ripple, with Faith Christian moving to 11-man.
I wonder if any other teams will add an 8 man team. Morristown and Southwestern Shelby seem like prime examples due to Waldron's participation. It really does depend on the school's interest though. I really doubt a basketball powerhouse such as Barr-Reeve would give much thought as their focus is almost exclusively on basketball, but a struggling program like White River Valley could give it a shot.
