Funny you should ask that. There is no mandatory disqualification for targeting in high school like there is in NCAA. However, a targeting foul where contact is initiated with a helmet above the shoulders of a defenseless player can be a candidate for a flagrant foul, resulting in disqualification.

I was the observer on this game, and I discussed this very question with the crew after the game. After a thorough discussion, we all agreed that the hit, although there was a lot of contact, should not have been considered “flagrant.” So, IMO the crew got it exactly right … except the Referee gave the personal foul signal (#38), but omitted the signal for targeting (#24).

Looks like the hit that Tyquan Hammock put on Garrett Meador.  I don't even think targeting existed back then.

Now is the time for a sincere response.

There were some ideas that we got from the pandemic that should remains.  Gates should be cashless.  Pre purchase tickets online and get a QP code to be scanned at the games. Possibly the same with concessions.

I don't know if there is a set price for football tickets throughout the state.  Maybe reduce the price by a buck or two and get people in the seats.

Be nice to see how creative school with get with promotions.

Promote early online tickets, but do not remove the cashless gates.  Many people decide at the last minute whether to go to a game and which game to go to.  Many people still find it a hassle of online purchases and many people still worry about the security of online purchases.  I would not like lose any ticket sales right now.

Once a knight always a knight.

I remember the 07 championship game at the RCA Dome well.  Hammock’s hit on Meador...man what a hit.  Wasn’t a player but was on the field for a different reason.  Once The Knight,.......well I’m a little too out of shape from those days.

One heck of a second half by the Knights.  Congratulations to all, proud to see a sibling and several former students move on to the next level.  Time to bring it home.

I don't think Hammock's hit would be legal today.

I’m not too familiar with pioneer but I did watch some of their game with Andrean last night. They run a very similar offense to Fairfield. Run heavy, little to no pass game. Only loss this year is to little sister to the east (New Haven) 32-28. Tough group of kids. Probably the most physical team in the tournament the knights have seen yet.

Fairfield's offensive line had Luers D Line on its heals most of the night.  I watch helmets.  I saw Luers helmets most of the night which means they were being pushed back and controlled.  Could pose major problems if Pioneer is similar to Fairfield.

Cold is relative to where you’re located.... cold resistance in from Minnesoter  or North Dakoter will be way lower than Florider....

After moving down to South Carolina, I find this very true.  The high school players down here tolerate the heat better than their counterparts in Indiana.  On the reverse, they can not handle cold weather as well.

As a Luers alum, I would love for the Knights to win but the defense has been so inconsistent. Every recent state championship team Luers has had (except for 2009) a stout defense.  They can’t expect the offense to win in shootouts every week as the competition gets tougher. I hope they prove me wrong but my gut is telling me the Tipton wins this game.

Four quarters of the best Luers football they have in them. Make them beat you.  Don't beat yourselves.

Surprised this thread is so quiet. It seemed the Luers-Tipton threads 8-10 years ago had like 10 pages apiece. Any thoughts on this one?

AH, the good old days!  I do watch the games on my computer as much as I can, but while I was teaching I was closer to the hearts and minds of the players.  I miss being in the stands and collecting pre- game newspaper articles and forum quotes to post on the wall outside my classroom.  By this time of year, that wall was full from door to door.
