Seems a lot like Elkhart where a consolidation might be in the future
Interesting. The new Vigo County School Corporation Superintendent, Dr. Robert Haworth, just came from Elkhart...

One has to feel bad for Tell City having a great season to end like that. Obviously, they were not a full strength. No doubt it would have been a more competitive game if Tell City had all the pieces intact. The Miners are playing very well defensively and offensively right now and I think we would have won the game anyway but who knows. I'm sure TC feels differently. Linton has been fortunate thus far to not have had any covid issues. The loss to North Knox three weeks ago seems to have been a needed wake-up call for the team and coaches. A rematch with NK seemed unlikely when the playoffs began but not so much now. North Knox is really rolling right now and beating Mater Dei is not out of the question and the Miners will be favored against North Posey at home. Linton suffered a blow last night when their biggest and perhaps best lineman suffered what appears to be a broken leg. The team seems to be really energized right now.
Agree, Tut.
Much as I want to see the Miners win - and you know how much that is - hated to see it happen with Tell City having players sidelined. And I’m sure the Miner players would have preferred to go against the Marksmen at full strength.
Unfortunate end to a great season for Tell City. The program has come a long way from 76-8 in 2015.

If Boonville didn't come out the 2nd half and once again change up their offense. Linton wins the game.
Kudos to Boonville then. Linton’s won more than a few games in the past thanks to second-half adjustments.

This was a very entertaining ball game. Of course I'm sorry the Miners lost. They had a couple of chances in regulation to win it, but that's football. Mockobee had 38 carries for 209 yards. At least that is what the announcers said. He was averaging 252 yards per game but on a LOT less carries. The play of the game was what looked like a Linton int but went through the defenders hands and was caught for a HUGE gain with the clock winding down in regulation. Boonville would score, get the 2 and send it to overtime.
You win some, you lose some. Still proud of the Miners effort tonight. Give yourselves a chance to win and let the chips fall where they may.
No such thing as “moral victories” obviously but at least the naysayers can’t say Linton doesn’t play anyone anymore.
This loss, disappointing as it is will only serve to make the program better. If not in the immediate future, then maybe in the coming years as we continue to elevate the program to the next level.- 1

Man I miss the "old days". A Linton game thread would generate pages of discussion. These days you are lucky to get one. Is it posters have left this website or people just don't care now?
I miss the “old days” too.
It’s not that I don’t care, I’m just having a hard time getting interested. It doesn’t help that I’m not covering the Miners anymore.Team seems to be coming along pretty well though.

There it is! It’s officially the start of the high school football season.
All that’s missing is the flatus hoagies.

One positive from last Friday at the Reitz Bowl...they played Santana’s “I’m Winning” over the PA after the game. Instead of that tired old “We are the Champions.”
More schools should take note and follow suit.

Might need the Gibson Field TP after one of Tanka’s flatus hoagies.

I have no doubt that Mater Dei's schedule prepares them well for when they play 2A post season. We have beefed up the schedule at Linton...but I don't think we would ever have the schedule MD, or Bishop Luers, Andrean etc are going to play in the bigger cities.
Exactly.
There was a lot of discussion last week on Mater Dei’s strength of schedule. One thing to keep in mind - those games against the big Evansville schools are conference games. Basically Mater Dei’s been playing the same schedule since before Bob Griese was quarterbacking Rex Mundi. So they’re used to it.
Linton I think does about the best it can with its schedule. Maybe you could tweak it a bit, drop a game or two and find a quality replacement. But it’s not like the Bloomington schools or the Terre Haute schools are gonna schedule Linton.

This situation's a little different than the previous one. After reading the article, two things stand out to me:
1. The coach didn't pull his starters even with a 5-possession lead in 4th quarter. Not cool says I. Let your 2nd stringers get some valuable time vs. the other teams 1st string. If opponent starts a comeback, your starters go back in. Bad form by the winning coach, but not deserving of a sanctioning IMO.
2. The Nassau County Lopsided Score Committee? REALLY? Once again, at a total loss for words. 🏈 ❄️
Back to the topic.
One other thing stood out to me: “previously undefeated foe.”
Presumably not a “hapless” opponent. Although it does seem, even though both teams were undefeated Plainedge clearly operates at a higher level than South Shore.
Perhaps South Shore needs to upgrade it’s schedule to be better prepared for the likes of Plainedge.
Get better or go home! 😜

Miner Pride you spelled Wolfs wrong. It's Wolfs, not Wolves
You know, Tanka, for those who disagree there is well-documented evidence from the wide world of sports supporting your position. The NHL professional hockey club in Toronto is known as the Maple Leafs. Not Maple Leaves.

Thanks for all you did for Miner sports! Going to miss seeing you on the sidelines. I still remember when you, my son, and I were all right on the goal line during the Scecina semi-state game and thought Linton had scored. LOL That was one crazy night! Just one of many memories from Miner football lore. Best of luck in your newest endeavor!
I often thought, what a privilege it was to be the guy who got to cover Miner football. Right place, right time I guess.

Hilarious ts32! That guy has been posting the same thing on almost every Linton game this year. I think they are the new token troll on the GID. LOL I just ignore them. They remind me of the saying: "it's better to be thought of as a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt".
I think he’s pretty funny actually. I get a kick out of him.

From a fan's point of view, I actually like the Miners being in 2A. I think it's where they "belong". Personally, I hope they never go back to 1A.
I agree.
Even last year - and I can’t even begin to tell you how many people were asking me, “What’s wrong with this team?” - look how they fared against the 1A teams on their schedule. And last year was a “down year” by Linton standards.

I think Linton would be much better prepared for this game with Mater Dei if they had played the mighty Parke Heritage Wolfs. Sometimes you can gain from losing in a regular season game if it better prepares you for the playoffs. There would be no shame in the Wolfs losing to the Miners!
Fixed it for you 😜

So have you left Linton yet? Sorry to see you go TS! Have enjoyed your coverage.
Yes, I have left. I’m in Indy now.
Glad you enjoyed the coverage. I tried to give Miner football the coverage it deserves.
So what is the future of The Western Indiana Conference?

This is true. Linton was invited, I believe in 2018?
And yes, baseball was a factor, so the AD told me. They didn’t like the idea of playing a full round-robin conference scheduled. It didn’t leave enough room on the slate to step outside the conference to play the likes of Castle and Jasper.
