Well the school board ran a good guy out and now they have what they wanted. Good job Eastern Greene school board

Really good guy. Well-liked and respected by the players.

Nothing against the current coach of course, but why mess up a good thing? Plus the guy they ran out had already been on staff before he became the head coach so they had some continuity...until the board disrupted it.

    Miners 35, Arrows 12.

Huge 2nd quarter offensively for the Miners. Trey Goodman-to-Lance Dyer 45-yard TD,  Cash Howard 11-yard TD run following a sustained drive, Dyer 39-yard TD run...21-0 Miners at the half.

Three huge stops for the Red and Blue defense in the first half.

Each team put up two second-half scores for the final.

Unofficial stats: Linton - Dyer 10 carries, 118 yards, 2 TDs (one rushing, one receiving); Goodman 11-15-0, 187 yards, 2 TDs; Howard 6-33 rushing, TD runs of 11-12; Clayton Hauser 4 receptions, 72 yards; Devyn Robertson 4 receptions, 67 yards, 38-yard td; Luke Lannan 11 carries, 66 yards. Sullivan - Tristan Drake 20-34, 253 yards, 1 pick, 2 TDs; Kyle Vernelson 8 catches for 138; Jackson Shake 7 catches for 74, 2 TDs (8 and 13 yards).  Miners outgained Arrows on the ground 228-66.

Defense was active. Lannan two sacks, Tyler Mongeau two sacks and a fumble recovery. Really liked Lannan on the linebacker blitz deep in Sullivan territory. Arrows never saw him coming. Would have had a third sack for a safety but was flagged for a horsecollar.

Penalties - Miners overcame (I counted) 10 for roughly 130 yards; penalties negated two interceptions, a 53-yard Lannan TD run, and the aforementioned sack for a safety.

Miners needed this one. Doesn't get any easier with Monrovia, North Vermillion and Boonville coming up.

I guess Wolfs barbeque in Evansville is wrong on their spelling too. https://www.wolfsbarbq.com/

I guess Wolfs Homemade Candies in the WRC's very own Attica is wrong on their spelling too. https://wolfschocolate.com/

I can look things up on the internet too. Just admit that you are wrong and I'll let it go. It's Parke Heritage Wolfs.

It's Wolf's barbecue in Evansville and Wolf's Homemade Candies in Attica. Singular possessive, not plural.

If you can look up things on the internet too, you might want to look at the company's homepage instead of just the url.

Almost Half WW leads 16-0. Bobby Stevens (per the pekin crowd) broke a bone in ankle or leg. Totally sucks as a fan but gotta keep playing. Mason Armstrong and what appears to be freshman Roper Mcpheeters have looked good. Hopefully Bobby gets healthy. Hes a hell of a player

    Damn, another McPheeters?

  6. First of all congrats to the Southridge Raiders for pulling out a tough come-from-behind win.

Disappointing loss for the Miners. Up 20-12 and positioned for their first-ever win in six tries against Southridge.

BUT – They gave up too many big plays. And the fumbles were Costly!

I knew going in pass coverage was going to be problematic. But the fumbles!!! Two led directly to scores. You could say it turned out to be the difference between winning and losing.

This Miner team I think has the potential to be really good. But they gotta shore up some things.

I don't think this is all about football. How many students are enrolled at Union HS? They also have the opportunity to play at various other schools and some do at great effort on their families. Union as a school is trying to survive. Football and turnouts is not really in the equation. The community wants to hold it all together, Maybe it cant be done. Its not a Football issue.

I think Dugger's 9-12 enrollment is upwards of 150 but I'm not sure.

The school itself is doing fine. And their girls sports are competitive with the smaller schools around here.

One of the problems they're facing with football is, for the past few years there have been several kids who, a generation ago would have played for Dugger,; now they're strapping on red helmets with a white block letter "L" on the side...

I've always, at least since the late 90's, been impressed with coverage the H-T gives us.  No offense Schwing @ts32, you do a superb job as well!  But for being 40 miles away, they go above and beyond what I think is expected of them.

    Miners by 1 point.

    No offense taken.

The H-T has always done a terrific job with their coverage. A lot of folks around here read the H-T for that very reason.

This and the Brown County - Pike games were the hardest for me to pick.

I know previous scores, Southridge's system is just incredibly hard to defend in Week 1, but it can also be very unforgiving with some untimely mistakes and if Linton has some special kids back who can break a play or two early. What's going on in Miner country? Have you moved that tee-ball baseball fence back yet or built a green monster?

Nope, the tee-ball fence is still there 😂 Not only that, the field slopes downhill to left field so it's even easier to clear the fence. Only way they could move it back would be to plow up the road that runs behind the outfield fence

Is Eastern Greene the sleeper in Sectional 48? was all their off-season noise much ado about nothing?

Friday at Springs Valley will tell us a lot about Eastern...The "off-season noise" actually was a pretty big deal. But the bigger issue is Eastern graduated 16 or 17 seniors, most of whom played major roles on their state finals team. And their replacements aren't on this year's roster.

21 underclassmen on last year's roster, and 31 players came out this year.

I know scrimmages don't mean a whole lot. But Brown County did score seven times to Eastern's two...

I'm not sure if the Miners can win this game but I think they make it interesting.

    Agreed.

The Miners can't afford to get off to a slow start like they did in the scrimmage with Bosse. But I liked the way they finished. If they play like they did in the last 2/3 of that scrimmage I like their chances.

Defense looks much better, aside from the big play they gave up on the first play of the scrimmage. I think we'll definitely see an improved Miner team this year. As we should...can't say they're "young and inexperienced" anymore.

Good program and good fans.  Glad they are on Linton's schedule.  This is a good season opening test for both teams.

I heard coach Buening say on a podcast today, “Linton is a strong program. Both our programs mirror each other – passionate communities, tough hard nosed kids, guys going both ways. It’s really what small school football is all about.”
