  1. Great job by all 6 crews.  I just have one call that I wonder about.  2A game 1st half(I think 1st Qtr).  NP going south to north.  NP attempts a long pass near their sideline.  The pass is ruled a catch.  I wasn't sure if the player that caught the ball may have stepped out of bounds and then made the catch.  It would have been a tough call to make as I was watching from north end zone right on that sideline.  Your brother was a lot closer than I was.

My only question from the weekend that was still in my memory.

    Thanks

Many years ago, South Bend used to hold a Summer festival in  July that included all sorts of athletic events, including an all star game of area football players. I got our crew to officiate one of the games. Figured it’d be a nice, no pressure, way to get in some field time in the Summer. Back then there weren’t the opportunities to work in the Summer like there are now. Well, early in the proceedings one of the players spit on an opponent and there commenced a bench clearing brawl — one of only 3 in which I was involved in 40 seasons.

I wonder if anyone from Plymouth staff remembers?

The bigger issue for LCC is going to be the offensive side of the ball.  Andrean has only given up a max of 28 points this season.  When giving up 27-28 points, they are 1-3 for the season.  If LCC is able to find a way to trade punches, then that gives them a puncher's chance.  The problem though is that offense is somewhat choppy for LCC.  Rochester held LCC to 24 points for the game there was a late-game TD to get to that 24.  LCC will need to find a way to move the ball and keep it close to provide some potential slack for the defense to get things figured out ... again, I think LCC's going to need to do something other than standard D to have a shot.

That late TD was a bit uncalled for from just listening to to the LCC(Lafayette radio station) call of the game.  Even they thought that LCC should have been happy with the win at that point.

The Triton player you are referring to is a very good athlete.  I remember him diving for the pylon on the 2-pt conversion.

On another note, as I was looking at MaxPreps and Hoosier North Conference stats, I noticed several schools - more than one - did not have stats.

Is there some secret if a quarterback is whatever-for-whatever for a certain amount of yards, 'x' number of touchdowns and interceptions?

Is it top secret if a back has however many yards rushing, and 'x' amount of touchdowns with whatever yards per carry?

    Sorry! I guess I just don't understand.

    Any thoughts ?

as always, the game is better

Almost.... I checked Harrells site and looks like 2013 was the year, you're probably thinking overall school year. Frys' mentor, Hall of fame coach Marshall Overley had Westside turned around long before that IMO ! That's why he's hall of fame !

I could not find that coach Overley was a member of the IFCA HOF.  Is he a member of a different one?  I know that coach Beck and coach Straley are both members of the IFCA HOF.

  6. I would tell you that 3A-6A are pretty easy to sort through and get the sectionals in groups.  If you look at 1A and 2A there are several ways that the IHSAA can "slice the pie" to come up with sectionals.  There are natural rivials that might not end up in the same sectional and some that will.  The Marion County schools in these two classes will go all different directions.  Some folks will like the pie slicing and others will be very mad.

Chronic whiner. I don’t suppose there’s a possibility his usual disregard for officials is amplified by the identity of the Referee on this crew? In any event, I left at halftime. But I spoke with 7 other observers who also watched the first half. The overwhelming consensus was that the crew was having a very nice game.

I may be a chronic whinner, but, it is because you are the chronic know it all.  Sure, I know several crews.  But, this is one that I have no knowledge of before this game.

    1) Mouth pieces hanging from the face mask for the majority of the time of several players on the field.  Is this not a flagable offense?  Of course we all want to look like a pro but should we not want our kids to be as safe as possible?

    2)  Are the teams to be on the field following halftime once the clock runs out before the extra 3 minutes?  Westfield was not and it took several minutes before they came out.  Should a flag have been thrown?

    3) The helmet infraction I think was a poor call.  It looked as if the player put his helmet outside of the body on contact.

    4) As for the facemask penalty on the long completion before half on Westfield sideline.  I will give the crew that one as they are only a 5 man crew and could not be in place to see that one.

I know several years ago you said that going from a 5 man crew during the season to a 7 man crew during the month of November would be near impossible.  What are your thoughts today?
