  1. Honestly? Depends on how creative they get 🙂 I have a friend who lives in Granger. About three years ago, we were training together to run a 10K. We'd jog through a series of connected subdivisions. One early Saturday morning, In a space of a mile, I saw three HS kids walk out of their house & drive off in their cars. One was in an Edwardsburg baseball uniform, the other two in softball uniforms. When I asked him what that was all about, he just smiled & said "apartments." To be 100% fair, that was a few years ago & just one observation, albeit a personal one. I also have ZERO clue what their family situation was. Did find it interesting, though.
  2. Football-wise they couldn't before this season. Their conference was 10 teams, so no OOC games. It wasn't a particularly good conference, a couple of the schools who've had good programs in the past (Dowagiac, Allegan, Comstock), have experienced rapidly shrinking districts. Edwardsburg definitely felt like that impacted their postseason success. The conference has now contracted to 8, EHS added two OOC games this season. Both against very solid traditional Michigan powers, which should help them in the post season. I'm not sure who they'd want to play, if they were to schedule anyone fr/ St Joe / Elkhart counties. Edwardsburg's enrollment is between 850-900. Doubt they'd see much upside in tangling with a 5 or 6A opponent. Maybe a Northwood, Northridge, St Joe or Marian? Guessing they'd rather add someone closer, like a Lakeshore or St Joseph (MI).
  3. Edwardsburg has been a growing district, with excellent academics & extracurriculars, for 15+ years now. Definitely more than "just" athletics. Hard to ID a particular district that's been impacted. PHM, Mishawaka, Marian & St Joe. Folks aren't moving to the Village of Edwardsburg, per se. It's more "Granger North"......a lot of subdivisions, built just north of the state line. Based on friends & co-workers who've made the move it's popular among the ND / tri-campus community that want a less densely packed living area than Granger....or Granger folks who want a smaller (possibly less competitive) public school setting than PHM, while retaining high academic quality.
  4. In your scenario, yes. They'd have a chance to be successful. Which would be terrific. Antwon did a nice job at Washington...but also had two kids (Gehrig Dieter & David Perkins) who ended up playing (at least briefly) at Ohio State and Alabama. Riley had winning teams in 17, 18 & 19, but then Jarvis left & is on staff at Elkhart. Even Clay was a winning, successful program, 10-12 years ago. But "what if" is doing a lot of heavy lifting in this scenario. For a variety of reasons, historically, the coaches don't stay. They get worn out, better options come along. I'd love to see it....but history is pretty telling.
  5. I think the answer to the original question, depends on how you define "South Bend." If you strictly define that as the SBCSC, the football is poor. Coaches will come and go, programs will ebb & flow, but SBCSC schools are likely never going to be competitive again. Especially in a School of Choice world. However, when most folks think of "South Bend", they're really thinking St Joe County. Penn, Mishawaka, Marian & St Joe all field rock solid programs. In reality, you can include Edwardsburg, MI in that orbit, as well. Good number of families have moved the few miles north of the border, looking for a quality, albeit smaller, school experience for their families.
  6. Suburban Grand Rapids school. Play in a division of the OK Conference, one of the best conferences in Michigan. Size wise, they are in Division 2 (out of 8). They've had good regular season success in recent years, hasn't necessarily translated to the post season. Beat a pretty good suburban Detroit school week 1, Covid cancellation week 2, this game replaces a second consecutive possible cancellation. Frankly....unless you want to see what a nationally ranked monster like St X looks like in person, it's probably the most interesting match up in the area this week. IMHO.
