Woody Hayes is colts coach of the week for his win over the wolves! Congrats woody.

Lets all pray for another PH NV BATTLE in the sectional finals .

Whats RP do on offense? I thought they ran it every down but seems they throw it a little now

  2. I must say that the Gridiron Digest never disappoints.   You have to think there is a good chance that PH & NV will play each other again in the sectional.  No guarantees, because injuries can play a major factor.  If you are a PH fan, you have to like your chances next year, if you don't be the Falcons in the sectional this year, which could certainly happen.   I don't think anyone can dispute that they will have the upper hand next year.

I will say that PH is a handful on offense.   It's a good thing for everyone that they aren't quite so lethal on defense.

You never responded to me reply about the 4th and 6?

Which part?  There was a lot there.   However, you punt the ball.  Period.   No way NV would have went for it on 4th down....especially given the circumstances of the game at that point.  No way, despite what Woody Hayes would say on here.     You have to make the right decision.  It's impossible to predict what the result would have been had they punted.   That's not the point.  The right decision is to punt.    Make NV run the ball down the field starting from their own 20 with 2 minutes left.  Puts pressure on NV to have to pass the ball.  Thought it was poor game management.

Exactly. Moore wasn’t blind from the talent when he was there and left. They are ranked a top team in 6A now

Their head coach has done a great job but he credits Moore for setting the foundation for him their first year together there.

And honestly, who would have thought Rockville and turkey run could have competed for a conference championship 2 years in a row and be ranked in the top 5 in their second year? What talent was he chasing coming to PH?

It was well understood that TR's JH had plenty of talent before the merger of the schools, along with Rockville having some.  That was not a secret.  He's a good coach and has done a good job.  Some are going to have different opinions on a forum like this.  I've said my part.  I'm done with it.

So if Moore is such a horrible coach, how is it that he went to a 6a school and led them to their first winning season in almost 10 yrs?  Do we all forget the season he spent up at Jeff where he turned an 0-10, 1-9 team into and 8-3 team in one season?  Now that team seems to be rolling. If he was truly a talent chaser, wouldn't he have stayed in the big school that seems to have had a good talent pool?  Just curious.

No, not necessarily.  I think there were factors outside of coaching that he wasn't crazy about there.  You are correct in that they seem to be doing well even after his departure.

Nope, I disagree. Parke Heritage offense was their best defense at that point. If you’re trying to win the game, you try to convert the 4th down and then bleed the fairly new 40 second play clock. Coach Moore made the right call. He believed in himself and his guys. The dudes won 80% of his games because he’s dang good.

4th & 6 from NV's 45?  I could understand if it was 4th & 1 or 2.   4th & 6 is not nearly as good of a percentage.  If they were on the 25 or 30, I could understand, because you're essentially in no man's land.  Also, given how the second half had played out, it seems that you would punt the ball.

I would be shocked if the coach on the other sideline across from him would have made the same call, given the circumstances of the game at that time.

  7. 14 minutes ago, wrcsage said:

Should the Wolfs have punted on 4th down with 2:00 left?  Does the game end differently?

Thank you for bringing this up. To not punt in that situation is unacceptable. No plausible explanation. In the second half, PH had slowed down NV’s run game some. You punt and make them drive the field.  He’s a good coach, but that was a terrible decision.  Not one of his better coaching moves.  And don’t tell me if he would have got it, it would have been a good move.  If is was a NV coach, I’m praying that he goes for it in that situation.  NV had not established a pass game at all on Friday. Make them drive the length of the field.

My little rant this morning. Why are so many  people obsessed with Moore changing jobs and schools to coach. Isn’t the goal in life to put yourself in the best possible position for your family and yourself? I would assume most of us here have took promotions, better paying jobs, better benefits so we could be successful and support our family. If you haven’t I’m sorry.

Look at all the coaches you know. How many have stayed at one school? If Sanders was moving on from RP to another school you would hear nothing about it. No disrespect to Sanders but the program isn’t successful.  People don’t like when Moore moves because he is successful. Once again he has put himself in that position so schools, teams, parents and fans want him. Wonder how many here that bash him would change their way of thinking if he was coming to their school?

Rant is over, let’s talk about 2019 football add something constructive to the forum. Let’s get some actually good football conversation going.

Coach Moore is a good coach.  As I’ve stated before, I think he’s overrated. To me it’s hard to evaluate because he’s always been in ideal situations.  Fair question.....when is the last time he won a WRC game he wasn’t suppose to? Or a  swing game that was 50/50?                                 To me, that is the mark of a great coach. Not just because people say he is.  If not, what is the point of coaching. You are winning and losing the games you are suppose to, which is boring and nothing special.  In addition, it’s obviously important to have great assistant coaches, in order to become a great coach. Know people don’t want to discuss this, but it’s a fair question.

  9.  This game could go either way.  Barring something unforeseen, you have to think this will be a close game.  I would give NV the slight lean because of their style of play.  I think its a little more dependable.   It's likely that both teams will play each other again, with more on the line.   If they can stay healthy.

Is this the biggest game in recent history of the WRC? If not who was bigger? Number 4 and number 6 being only 25 miles apart? How well could this team compete with 2-3 a state tourney if combined?

Lots of great football in our conference for a long time

2012 & 2013  NV & FC were better games.  If those years qualify as recent.  Those teams were better than these.  Still, this Friday has everything you want in a high school football game.  Most high school football games, especially at this level, are won by teams that can run the ball and defend the run.   In looking at this objectively, that is why Crabtree has not lost to Moore as of yet.  The NV teams have been able to control the line of scrimmage, run the ball, and defend the run better.   Even when Moore was at FC, that's were these games were won & lost.

Does that mean that PH can't win on Friday, obviously not.  However, I think NV has the formula to give them problems.  PH seems a little too reliant on the pass, which could lead to more turnovers.  They need to establish a run game Friday and not be too impatient on offense.    Will PH be able to defend NV's run game and #12, Mr. Reynolds?

  11. Get your popcorn ready for this upcoming Friday in Cayuga.  MUST SEE!   Last night was an odd game at Attica.  Take nothing away from Attica, but NV made a lot of mistakes that would have made the game much different.  And, with that being said, I think that is a huge positive for this week.  Seems as though each year 1 game pops up like that.  The Falcons can flush that out of their system, and still were able to escape with a victory.

PH presents challenges, no doubt.  However, the NV kids understand how to win.  PH has better athletes, but NV has better football players.  Will be an interesting week

Dark days are coming for the Wolfs. Word around the WRC is that they have low numbers in the Jr. High, and the cupboard is bare from the 8th grade on down through the youth league. I've heard it's so bad that not even Brian Moore, who is in the Hall of Fame, can fix the oncoming famine.

In the WRC Game of Thrones, Herb King will rise to take the Throne from the Iron Wolf Brian Moore. Herb is sly like Loki, and soon it will be Loki's time to rule.

IF that is truly the case, doubt Coach Moore will be around to see that through.

If NV does in fact have a stellar passing attack, it will likely be the most interesting game of the series to date.

Bottom line though, Brian Oliver evidently knows how to game plan for this team and it has shown the last 3 years.

    Miners 34,  Falcons 13

So, with that logic, would it be right to assume that Coach Buening, from Southridge ,knows how to game plan for Linton given the results in that series?

  14.  Just to elaborate a little more on this game -  Probably the two most accomplished programs in the Wabash Valley over the last 10 years.  I'm sure there has to be a sense of frustration for NV in this game.  They've dominated all other opponents on their schedule from a win/loss perspective during Crabtree's tenure.  Linton is the exception to that.  They get physically overwhelmed, and not much can be done about that.   Against other opponents, even if the NV talent is not as good, they can negate it with being sound in their approach and scheme.

I'm sure the Linton people feel similar about a team like Southridge.  Most years they are going to better than Linton, which is what makes a game like this year between the two even more frustrating.  Sounds as though Linton had every opportunity to come away victorious, but did not.  You still have to respect the fact that Linton has played a very challenging schedule.   And really that is the best thing about this game for NV.....they learn a lot more about themselves in playing Linton than any other game throughout the year.  They get the acid test when playing Linton.

Even if this does result in a Falcon defeat, which is the most likely outcome, they know that they've played the best team on their schedule.   I hope I'm wrong but until they prove otherwise, it is what it is.   I will say that a program that has been as successful as NV will not take the field thinking they are beat.  They have kids that expect to win, and usually do.  Unfortunately, if recent history is any indicator, Linton is the exception to that rule.

    Linton 45  NV 15

Falcons have played Linton 5 times in the last 4 years and the closest game has been 14 points. I think this NV team is very good by WRC standards (although I think they’re 2nd best), but Linton isn’t the WRC and I think a miracle of some sorts would have to happen for the Falcons to pull this one out.  I hope I’m wrong.

This game hasn't been close since 2015.  I feel that NV had a better shot at beating Linton last year, because Linton was not as good.   Linton's running backs are too salty in this one.  The good news for NV is that no matter who they play from here on out, they will not be as good as Linton.  Linton would probably win the 1A title this year by a few scores.

Please don't anyone out there tell me Lutheran would beat the Miners.

Oh come on, the Wolves have scored 112 points in just 2 games.  You even admitted they scored 60 points in just 2 quarters last Friday.  That is what I call an offensive juggernaut!  I’ll take PH by 35+ against Attica next week.

PH scored 51 & 52 in those games last year.  Does it mean anything?

  17.  After watching the SV game, they have some guys that can play.   #29 is a stud.  To me, they should be capable of beating NV.   I personally think this team is better than the team they had two years ago.   Not sure if their record will be better.....time will tell.   Barrett is currently 11-11, which is pretty average.   Will be interesting to see how their season plays out.

Good morning and hello to all of my Wabash River Conference friends. Week 1 results were somewhat predictable. I think the Parke Heritage Wolfs might be the best team in class A this year. Brian Moore has his magic working again. Then I think South Vermillion will be the other best team in the WRC. It looks like Attica and North Vermillion are fighting for the third and fourth spots.

    Games this week:

    Clinton Prairie at Attica

    Parke Heritage at Covington

    North Vermillion at South Vermillion

    Benton Central at Seeger

    Riverton Parke at Fountain Central

Clinton Prairie @ Attica  -     Many on here spoke of the potential demise of Attica this year.  They always put a decent product on the field.   Ramblers 28 -12

    PH @ Covington -   Brown shakes loose for a couple TD's.   However,  PH 48 - 14

NV @ SV -  Should be a good one.  Gritty senior group for NV that understands how to win.  Will give them edge in this one.  34 -18

Benton Central @ Seeger-  Seeger 28-7.  It doesn't really matter.  Ugly football.

RP @ FC-  FC gets well with a win over the Panthers.   48 - 8

That should be the case all season. The wolfs have athletes all over the field and a hall of fame coach. They are already talking about rings in Rockville and Marshall. They are really excited and they should be. Easily the favorite to win the WRC this year.

I've been tough on Coach Moore in this thread.  However, sounds as though you have a love affair.  They do have the best athletes, but not sure they have the best football players.  Same could be said about last year.

If I'm starting a team in the WRC, give me the Brown kid from Covington.   Speed at a level of football when many don't.   Reminds me some of B. Woodard, QB from NV a few years back.

When you start a brand new program with two teams who had a combined record of 3-20, having a sound defense couldn’t be too easy to have in week three last year. North Central’s runningback is playing at ISU and they were a top 5 team in 1A. They got ran over. Get over it dude!

How many schools has Crabtree been to? How about King? How about Barrett?

If you’re a good enough coach to get any job you want, why wouldn’t you go to the program you could have the most success?

Seems to be a more personal issue underlining your opinion..... you’ve mentioned his leaving multiple times on this forum... did he jump ship before you or your son could play for him? Or was it that when he went to FC with his son it made them too dominant for your liking those 2 years?

love him or hate him, our kids are lucky to play for him. Sams as many other kids in the WRC.

No personal issue, just a personal opinion that he is overrated as a coach.  However, only my opinion.  And NC had a good team, but they certainly weren't great.  That was the most points they scored all year.  Regardless of the personnel you have, you can attempt to play defense in a way that makes some logical sense.  That didn't happen.  Watch the film.  I honestly find it to be strange.

Agree with you about going to a program that gives you a chance to be successful.  Will concede that.

I'm done on the topic.  Opinions are like......you know what.   However this is a forum to express your opinion.

    Best of luck to all

what does defensive integrity mean? I honestly do not know....

I find a Brian Moore coached team that fails to control the line of scrimmage (unless they are outmatched) and lacks fundamentals like a unicorn: they might exist, but good luck catching one.

The man has cut his teeth in coaching on line control and fundamentals....

Defensive integrity meaning lining up correctly, players understanding their assignments, being fundamentally sound, not blitzing all the time to get your defenders out of position.  Basically, being sound on defense.  They gave up 62 points to NC last year, and I can't find the official statistics on how many rushing yards they gave up, but I know it was a TON.  Like an amount that is hard to do.  From watching his teams over the years, the defensive philosophy has become a head scratcher, and it seems as though it has gotten progressively worse.

Can the man coach, obviously yes.  Only my personal opinion, but I do think people lavish too much praise for him.  His win/loss record is impressive, but he is smart enough to jump ship when he sees a talent drop off, and has never stayed around for lean years at the respective schools.

Enough on this topic.....I know most will disagree.   I just don't see it anymore, especially when they play a team of equal talent or better.

Not sure about the staff he has at PH?  1 person can't do it all.

  22. 33 minutes ago, Oldbleacherfan said:

Typical reb, belittling a coach, his staff, and young men nearly 2 months in advance.....sigh.

Good luck to all and stay healthy.

I said nothing to belittle any kids.  If anything, I was pointing out that NV is a better coached team than PH.  They lack defensive integrity which is why North Central ran for like 600 yards last year.  Maybe their defensive approach will change.  As long as it doesn't, PH will struggle to stop the NV run game.   Parke Heritage will have better athletes, but not better football players.  We'll see when we get there.....Coach Moore is due, and probably has a more talented team.  He has yet to beat Crabtree as a head coach.  Maybe that changes this year.   Time will tell........
