    Can't see that ever happening.

Coldest I have experienced, 10-31-14, @Rensselear. 2nd round sectional. Wind chills had to have been in the low teens. Visiting team was very late coming out for 2nd half. We thought they had headed back North early.

The COLDEST I have ever been in my life was not in a deer stand or duck blind.  It was sitting in the bleachers at a Regional game MD @ Webo back in 1997 or 98.  Game time temp was low 20's with what felt like gale force winds coming string into our faces on Visitor side.  It still gives me chills to think about it.

Never. If we move a game because of it being too cold, then football has officially become soft.

It might be good to keep in mind that these rough, tough, & manly college & pro teams playing in below freezing temps have all sorts of hi-tech, cold weather gear like ponchos, thermal gloves, heated bleachers, etc. at their disposal.  Talk about "soft"!  Few if any high school programs have the proper sideline equipment to cope with these kinds of temps. I t would also be good to keep in mind these are high school kids, not professional athletes who are being well compensated for their efforts.

Any talk about Madder Days regional game anywhere?

I tried to start a thread but much the same as last year, there are few TC fans active on the GID.  There are a few comments but mostly from MD fans and supporters.  Here is the link:

It has pretty much devolved into an airing of past grievances over who refused to play where, when🤯

That not legalizing it, it’s decriminalize. If it was legal you would see dispensaries like cannabis in numerous states.

From a semantical perspective, you are correct.  I should have chosen my words more carefully. Mea culpa.  However, the larger point I was trying to make is still relevant.

In my opinion, it is a poor argument to cite that “other states have done it” as your main justification for an action.  States are different, school systems are different, governing bodies - ie IHSAA, are different.  If someone wants to implement some sort of a multiplier, do some research, show your work and back up your suggestion with data that is relevant to our state.  Don't start with a flawed theory supported only by your own opinions...mi dos centavos.

No state legalized cocaine if they did there would be a mass exodus from other states to the state that legalized it

Oregonians made their state the first in the United States to decriminalize the personal possession of illegal drugs, including cocaine, heroin, oxycodone and methamphetamine.

Measure 110 was passing by a wide margin in unofficial returns updated Wednesday morning.

The ballot measure reclassifies possession of small amounts of drugs as a civil violation, similar to a traffic offense. The penalty becomes a $100 fine, which a person can avoid by agreeing to participate in a health assessment. Selling and manufacturing drugs will remain illegal.

Some states just legalized cocaine.  Does that mean all states should follow suit.  Poor argument

I'm not sure why what we are currently using doesn't work. If a team is successful and earns enough points they "bump up". If they continue to be successful they continue to move up the ladder. Maybe we change the points system or what it takes to "bump up", but just moving all private schools up based on twice their enrollment regardless of success seems ignorant. There is no reason a school of any size should be penalized and placed in a class well above their enrollment when they might have an absolutely horrible athletic program.

Indiana classed all sports many years ago to give more kids a chance to be successful. Now it appears some don't feel the right people are benefitting from classification.

The only adjustment I would propose to current system is a rolling 3-4 yr average which, I recognize, would be REALLY difficult for scheduling purposes but not impossible, since all schools would be subject to same system.  Current system often punishes kids that happen to have bad luck of coming directly on the heals of a really strong class or two of athletes.  Nearly every school has seen these 2-3 cycles but with the 2 year re-set, the kids who actually have to live with the step up are often not the same kids who had the success.

Yes they did say "option" but is it really an "option" to many programs?  Move up or shut down if you don't like our rules?

Covid has had a devastating and long term impact on many high school athletic programs across the state.  Unfortunately, those who could least afford to deal with the impact of Covid are being hit the hardest,  and their ability to compete in this brave new world has been compromised.

Conversely, wealthy school districts and PPs have the deep pockets and overall resources to navigate the pandemic and come out stronger on the other side.

Given the events of the past 12 months and the outcomes that we have seen playod out on the athletic fields across the state, its time for The IHSAA to step back in and revisit the issue of competitive balance between and amongst its member institutions.  One of COVIDS unintended consequences has been to further the competitive gap between the haves and the have nots, taking an ever dwindling number of post season contenders and further reducing that once again.

Two findamental changes are needed to further addrewss the widening gulf that is separating the haves from the have nots, especiually in high cost sports such as football.

    1. Roll back the Success Factor to include Indiana Public Schools only.

    2. Institute the Mandatory 2.0 PP Multiplier, whereas all PP schools will have their actual enrollments multiplied by "2" to achieve class designation.

We are seeing a new period of emerging PP dominance, due primarily to the PPs ability to better manage and manuever their way thru the COVID Pandemic.  Most observers will agree that common sense would dictate that PP football programs generally play "up" during the regular season and "down" during the post season.  This reality defies all good logic and common sense, and clearly has a negative overall impact on competitive balance within the classes.

Under this new proposal, PPs will accept their new 2.0 Multiplied Classification, or have the option to contract their football program.  There are several throughout the state that might seriously consider contraction.

Below is a recap of the new enrollment numbers to be used for classification purposes :

    Roncalli    1188/2376    6A

    Cathedral   1099/2198    6A

    Dwenger     1015/2030    6A

    SB St Joe   857/1714       5A

    Brebeuf     791/1582        5A

    Guerin        761/1522       5A

    Chatard      714/1428      4A

    Marian        645/1290       4A

    Ev Memorial  609/1218    4A

    Ritter          566/1132       4A

    Luers         542/1084       4A

    Mater Dei    497/994     4A

    Heritage Christian  462/924    4A

    Bishop Noll  460/920     4A  (Contract)

    Scecina       427/854     4A

    Andrean      414/828     4A

    Covenent Christian   365/730  3A

    LCC                287/574          3A

    Ind Lutheran    225/450      2A

Traders Point Christian   128/256   (Auto minimum 1 class bump)

We are seeing a new period of emerging PP dominance, (based on what info & data exactly?) due primarily to the PPs ability to better manage and manuever their way thru the COVID Pandemic (how did you come to this conclusion? What evidence, other than your opinion, do you have that this is factually correct?).  Most observers will agree (Assumes facts not in evidence, to say the least) that common sense (so called “common sense” is neither common nor often based on said “sense”) would dictate that PP football programs generally play "up" during the regular season and "down" during the post season.  This reality defies all good logic and common sense, and clearly has a negative overall impact on competitive balance within the classes.  (The reason for this is entirely geographical.  Most of these programs are from smaller schools located in cities with larger public schools. For convenience, cost of travel, safety of the students, etc. these schools choose play teams that are nearby.  Nothing sinister going on.)

Under this new proposal, PPs will accept their new 2.0 Multiplied Classification, or have the option to contract their football program.  (Power has gone to someone’s head, me thinks!?) There are several throughout the state that might seriously consider contraction.

Our geography based tournament means that regional is the level where the corners of the state really start to get the short end of the stick.  Just looking here locally- Mater Dei and Triton Central are about 3 hours minimum by car. The other 2A regional in the south (Western Boone and Heritage Christian) is only about 45 minutes.  In 4A Mooresville takes on Evansville Central (2.5 hours) while Roncalli plays MtV Fortville (40 min).  The logistics of being the road team is completely different for Sectional 39/40 winners and Sectional 23/24 as opposed to the central Indiana ones.

This is why I support the idea of hosting Regionals & Semi-State games at a neutral fields.  Ideally, neutral fields that are similar distances from schools involved but I understand that could be problematic.  Those who chime in with “but we earned the right to host a Home game” are delusional IMO.  BOTH teams made it to the game by winning their Sectional, Regional, etc.  so both have equally earned the right to host.  The only reason one team is made the Home/Host team are the IHSAA rules that alternate every Host teams btwn the higher/lower sectionals/Regional every other year.  How is that “earning” the right to host?

Below are this year's rules for "Determining Home Team" for Regionals straight from IHSAA site.  Next year, they will be simply reversed with Host team for even # divisions (2A, 4A & 6A) being the "lower" sectional instead of "higher".  Not exactly "earning" it for any of the teams involved IMHO.

    Determining Home Team
    Classes 2A, 4A, 6A
Sectional final game non-host, if applicable, or higher sectional # (i.e., Sect. 2 is higher than Sect. 1).
    Classes A, 3A & 5A
Sectional final game non-host, if applicable, or lower sectional # (i.e., Sect. 1 is lower than Sect. 2).

According to MaxPreps it looks like their D is the strong suit. They had only given up 108 points as of 10/30. Leading rusher is a freshman (#28 Crawford 5'9 165). 145 carries for 975 yds. Next leading rusher is a senior Kermode (#23 5'11 200). 76 carries for 438 yds. Senior QB Hebauf (#6) will keep a little also. Top two receivers are sophomores (#20 & #24) with like 12 catches each. Hebauf had about 50% completion percentage and more INTs than PaTDs (3 PaTD/4 INTs) as of 10/30.

Agree.  Per their stats, they are a good but not great running team with around 180 yds per game.  Total offense is only around 230 yds per game...kind of makes you wonder how they scored so many pts...must have a really good D.  S

Still, I am going to give the rematch to the Wildcats 31 - 14.  No real reason other than I am an admitted & unapologetic "homer" & a die-hard Wildcat fan!

  10. Rematch from 2019 where TC Defense made life difficult for MD Offense and TC took home the Regional title 13 - 7.  As I recall, there was very little conversation btwn fans leading up to that game so not certain we can expect a whole lot more this time around.  Would enjoy hearing from TC opponents on the GID about what makes TC go this year:  defense, offense, blend of both?

Does anyone know if the ping pong balls pick which team is in the bottom part of the bracket or is that based on geography?  Because it has fallen that way every time the teams have played in the postseason,

Sectionals are completely up to the luck of the draw as to where you are placed in the bracket.  There has been much discussion of seeding the sectionals but the IHSAA has shown little interest in this.

This was the fourth game MD has had a running clock this year

I probably should have made it more clear that this was the first time this year I have actually listened to a game on the radio that had a running clock.  I must confess I tuned out of several MD games after halftime when the score was lopsided...

Last night, you could not see the clock on the livestream and the announcers did not seem to be aware of the running clock until part way through the 4th qtr so it was all a bit confusing as a listener.  Mea culpa.
