  1. Absolutely! Heading to the Jungle tonight with a couple of buddies. Nothing like high school football and the weather is nearly perfect.
  2. Completely forgot to congratulate the Tigers on another strong campaign. I don't know how many of the Tiger faithful saw a Sectional Championship in their future when both Fisher & Rode went down mid-season. IMO, this was perhaps the best coaching job in recent years by Hurley & his staff, and that is saying alot.
  3. Impressive win by EC last night. You don't see many teams come into Enlow and do that to the Tigers' D. Good luck next week.
  4. This statement entirely inaccurate. There is a distinct and unique catholic grade school system in the Evv area, seperate from the public school system. The vast majority of Memorial (& Mater Dei) students come from a feeder school.
  5. The situation with Memorial and Mater Dei is similar. Each has a parish feeder system where they get the vast majority of their students (>97%). I do not know if this is still the case but as a member of the catholic school board in the mid - late 1990s, there were far more students who left the catholic school system after 8th grade to attend a public high school than left the public grade schools to attend one of the catholic high schools, which is the exact reverse of what many tend to believe. Part of the reason, at least on the west side of Evansville, was the fact that Reitz has a very good academic reputation and the creation of the "Signature School" which caters to those seeking higher academics.
  6. My guess would be very few below the age of 50. With age comes a few - very few - advantages. A tribute to the culture Memorial has built over the past decade. Sometimes out-manned, never out-classed.
  7. Best of luck to the Tigers this week. Taking down EC may be too much to ask of this group but would not bet against them, either. Hurley & Co. will have the Tigers ready to compete.
  8. Every coach at RHS since Herman Byers has felt their seat warmers kick on from time to time. Seems Brunson will be no different. There was a running commentary among the throng of unhappy Panther fans as they walked to their cars about the poor offensive showing. Reitz didn't run all that well - outside of Oxley - and their passing game seemed to be centered around throwing the ball up in the general direction of Summers or Vera and have them go get it. It may have worked for much of the year but it turned into 3 INTs last night. Credit to Tiger DBs.
  9. A surprising - and yet, not surprising - victory by the Tigers tonight. The Tiger D was stout and the offense kept the ball away from the Panthers for much of the game. Panther offense looked out of sync all night, even Vera had a couple of rare miscues. The lone bright spot was strong running by Oxley who ran over everyone in his way. The talk in the section where we were seated focused on the tremendous coaching job by Hurley & staff the last half of the year. Tigers were ready to play tonight and maybe Reitz might have over-looked Memorial after their earlier rout at the Bowl. The ghosts of Enlow come back to haunt another Tiger foe.
  10. This game has huge potential for a trap game for Vikings....BIG win over MD, fans storming the field, fans completely dismissing next opponent... It is usually a good approach to play them one game at a time come playoffs. Tempting the football gods here?
  11. And yet, I am man enough to offer it but you aren't mature enough to accept it. SMH "Too soon we grow old, too late we grow wise." You were off on every detail of your prediction from the score to the running clock to the "obvious" talent disparity, etc. etc. yet you don't know enough to simply enjoy the victory and move on... Be wary, next week's game vs Paoli has all the hallmarks of a potential trap game. It will help that it is at home.
  12. Congratulations to Vikings on breaking the streak. Good luck next week...
  13. I feel your pain, brother... If I didn't put my screen at 125%, I couldn't read any of the posts!
  14. Thanks, I mean a running clock against MD not for them...that certainly did not happen last year. There have been several games where MD has put a running clock on their opponent but I do not recall anyone putting a running clock on the Wildcats...but my memory isn't what is used to be...👴
  15. North Posey @ Mater Dei; Well, game day is finally here and we will soon find out who walks the walk and who just talks...or types, as the case may be... For North Posey to win...according to a few posters, all the Vikings need to do is show up. 😂 Their vastly more talented team will wash over the hapless Wildcats and the clock will be full-on, non-stop by 4th quarter... I have missed less than a handful of Mater Dei games since the early 1900s and I cannot recall MD ever having a running clock put on them. Maybe one of the local, GID stat masters - Rudy, TigerFan20, et al can correct or affirm that notion for me? For the "Cats to win...well, to begin with, they have to stop being so darned "soft"...(TIC) MD's strength is its defense so the D must step up again. NP boasts a formidable ground attack that must be kept in check. MD's Achilles heal has always been SPEED and this year is no exception - see Bosse, Castle, etc. No idea how fast NP is - city fast or country fast - but MD will need to keep their RBs from getting to the edge or breaking up the middle at full speed. NP's passing game is suspect but that could be because they haven't really needed it this season...at least not yet... If MD can keep the offense on schedule, with manageable down & distance, they will put points on the board and keep pressure on NP's offense. Kicker Marx proved a valuable weapon last week with 3 FGs, giving them an option on 4th and long in the red zone MD has not had all season. Could this be the difference again tonight? Some posters say "NP's pass defense is much better" but a quick look at their schedule shows they haven't really played anyone with more than an average passing offense. Their lone foe with a good passing game was Heritage Hills and the Patriots gave NP their lone "L" on the season. Could be key tonight. A high scoring game favors the Vikings, IMO. If MD can keep the game in the twenties, I give the nod to Wildcats. My admittedly 'Homer' prediction is "The Streak" survives for one more year, MD 24 - 21.
  16. Ok, ok. The glove has been tossed. Challenge accepted. Apparently your opinion is not as "obvious" to others, especially those who have actually seen & competed with MD on the field and not the late night news sports report. Maybe you should gave stopped your post at "I dont think..." and left it at that. "But I don't get your assessment of MD coming off as soft, when in fact they are very battle tested. This was one of the more well rounded seasons for the SIAC with 8 really good teams. The Wildcats were put through the meat grinder. So if the 3-7 record seems "soft" I suggest you reconsider your stance. - Alices fan, Seal_63 As for MD having "inferior talent at every level". Well, assume by "level" you actually meant "position" but maybe this is your assessment of JV, Frosh and Cub rolled into one insult. Who knows, who cares...the game will be decided on the field, not in this chat so we will have to see. fwiw, I'll take any action you want to place on the 41 - 10 score.
  17. Unfortunate, esp in light of the weather that night and the resultant sparse attendance. Many fans would have surely tuned it to watch. Was there a specific reason they would not allow access? It seems oddly petty but maybe there is a reasonable explanation.
  18. It is always "reload" in Miner country, rarely does a team with that much history have to re-load. Every kid in the area dreams of being a Miner! Best of luck vs GC.
  19. As you know well, Miner Pride, it is ok to pick your team to win - even against MD! 8 - ) We are all fans here and want our team to win. But, HOW YOU DO IT and the WORDS you use make a difference. Show some class & respect the other team. SUPPORT YOUR TEAM and avoid negative comments about your opponent and most will respect your posts... not everyone understands that, unfortunately. I have been hearing all year from NP friends how "this is the year" and it may well be. "Soft" MD will still show up with all of its "inferior talent" and we see what happens... As always, I hope for a well-played and injury free game. & safe travels to all venturing out to the Bowl tomorrow night. Go Wildcats! 😼
  20. Hello Miner Pride - GREAT To see you post. Are you still doing the play by play for Miner games? Always enjoyed your commentary, even when playing against you. Hope all is well with you. Haven't followed the Miners much this year but wish you & them the best of luck.
  21. Every year there is a newbie poster with a similar post. Welcome to the GID, "littleviking75". This could certainly be "the year", NP looks to have a really good team and MD is down a bit. " I would bet mater dei has not seen anyone run as hard as Galvin and Stone." - Well, MD faced a pretty good running duo last week in the Terry twins; both 6' 2 ", 185 lbs & they play football like wrestlers with pads. Very hard to bring down. MD bent to the tune of 270 yds but never broke and managed to put up enough pts to win. If NP's running game is that much better than TC's, the Wildcats are in for a long night. Hopefully our "soft" and "inferior talent at every level" can find a way to stay close. Last week, having their kicker Marx back was HUGE. MD kicked 3 FGs in situations where they had to go for it on 4th and long most of the year. This proved to be the difference as MD prevailed 30 - 27. But hey, thanks for the bulletin board material. Certainly you will post again if the Vikings win but curious if we will ever see you again if they don't... The bandwagon business is booming in So. Indiana. The new ones have almost unlimited expandable seating but, oddly, no seatbelts, allowing riders a quick, easy escape when the ride ends. Hopefully they used Amish craftsman as they are really the only ones who still know how to build a proper wagon these days.
  22. Pardon my "piing on" here... Assess me the full 15 Yds and automatic 1st down... But, in the Tigers victory over MD, the Tigers' ground game struggled until 2nd half when Rode was replaced after being injured. The RB that took his place was much quicker and gave MD fits in 2nd half. Rode may not even be the best RB on the Tigers' roster this season.
  23. Oops, yes, sorry. Fisher. So many good QBs coming out of Memorial over the past decade, I confused the names. Apologies to Mr. Fisher and proper kudos to him here.
