9-8 Scottsburg over Corydon. Both teams with with a safety. Corydon Freshman kicker pings it off the upright. Tough spot for a young dude to be in, he is super talented and with time will gain some confidence and drill those.

Big Cat Classic last night ended 20-14, trophy staying in Corydon for the second straight year. The story was the second half unforced turnovers by the Cougars. They moved the ball consistently against Corydon in the second half and if not for those fumbles, may have won by a couple of scores. Corydon JV won this morning 34-12 in Ramsey. JH was cancelled Thursday due to heat, rescheduled for Tuesday 9/15 for the Little Cat Classic. ——— After last night, it will be difficult to pick Corydon in almost any pickem game the rest of the season. Clarksville would seem like one you’d want to, but I am not sure Corydon can stop Hawkins slinging the ball around. Everyone else is likely just flat out better on that schedule.

Corydon JV blanked Paoli 42-0 running clock the second half. After the offensive shootout with BC week 1, I think this JV offense will score a ton this season. Freshman on this squad are really solid. The QB will likely be a sophomore starter on varsity next year.

Week 3 Pick’em 🏈 West Washington - Probably not much of a game Paoli - I am never sold on Springs Valley with the strength of schedule they have. I could see Valley dropping several this season though. Crawford County - Toss up to me, I’ll take the Wolfpack Charlestown - Madison may be better than I expect but I am rolling with the Pirates here Floyd Central - most lopsided matchup this week. Floyd is a top 4-5 team in 5a and we are talking New Pal, Cathedral, Bloomington South in that mix. Brownstown - Always impressive when a 2a beats a 5a. Likely not too close either. Corydon - I am picking Corydon out of loyalty. I dont have a ton of confidence after the last 2 weeks. Not sure how they don’t beat Paoli with the roster they have. I am very timid in all Corydon selections going forward. (They “should” beat NH by 21+) Salem - I think this is a decent Salem team. I didn’t see the film vs SC but I know how much Scottsburg lost from last year and just think that Salem has a little more. Similar wins over NH… which, I don’t think says too much at this point. Maybe a close game but if the Warriors pull it out, I wouldn’t be surprised. Only reason I’m not at 14 is I was being a smartass with Brownstown last week 😅 lesson learned, make my picks and don’t make one of those against Reed May.

Congrats. You have had a coach that knows how to do his job since 1993. Corydon keeps hanging onto guys who can’t figure out how to film the games let alone the rest of it.

No one expects Brownstown to lose a weak sectional but regional/semi state.. I don’t see a repeat to LOS. Corydon was driving with 5 minutes left when they fumbled the ball away. Braves drove down and scored before half. Last score was a fade on a 4th down unless I’m wrong. Congrats, Reed at getting a 50/50 ball deep left. I get it. You are a homer and so am I. I’ll go ahead and take the Pirates next week just to get you worked up here in the threads.

I expect Valley to drop SEVERAL games this season. They did not get any better losing the seniors from last season and I think the schedule is a bit more formidable. 5 losses is my guess… and before any says too much. I was tough on em last season too and the post season proved me correct. A team with a pulse they struggle. Easy to look good vs really bad teams.

It could have been 14-7 at half.. 14-0 probably if not for that late fumble by Corydon. This is not last years BC team. Be ready for a quick exit from the tournament this year. Not impressed by the Braves tonight. The onside kick by Reed should have been seen coming after half. I am leaning towards taking Daniels over Reed next week. 🤷🏻‍♂️ All things considered?

Corydon hosted Providence Friday night for the scrimmage. It was a good scrimmage for both teams, lots of things to work on before week one. Tons of penalties from both squads. Luke Keller is entering his 4th season with big expectations from the football community here in Corydon. This is the largest senior class we have had since the 2011 season when we lost to Chatard in semi state. Bobby Sharp will lead the Panthers in his 4th year as a starter coming off a late season injury last year. Out wide we see seniors JoJo McCarty and Cole Simpson. The backfield looks to boast a compliment of seniors running the ball, but expect Vest to get the Panthers share with Bockting coming in for some change of pace. The offensive line is where the Panthers look to impose their will anchored by 3 year starting center Tristan White. Meanwhile the right side of the line brings some size and athleticism from RG Carson Crail and RT Dante Chavez. On the left side Senior Mason Pedigo is flanked by Jr T Tuell. There is a ton of depth for the Panthers at line with another 5 seniors. Senior Caleb Walden will take on the TE responsibilities. Most of these guys are 2 year starters with several being 3 year starters. We also expect to see senior Hayden Hibbs helping out with ball carrying responsibilities, Hibbs missed last season with an ACL injury but was looking very promising after finding his way onto the field as a sophomore later into the season. Let’s not forget Senior Jonathon Lynch playing DT. This dude will be a problem for every team Corydon plays. Just watch the tape. Junior class is a bit small, but there are several key contributors who will either start or get significant playing time. Koons, Houchens, Coverdale, and Tuell lead the way. I expect to see just a couple of sophomores get any real playing time, most notably, Easton Windell who is son of 4 year starting QB from the early/Mid 2000s Josh Windell and nephew to 2 NCAA D-3 All Americans, Lucas and Jeremiah Windell. Freshman Gavin Hanger will take on kicking responsibilities for the Panthers. The kid has D1 written all over him already hitting from 55 in practice.

According to current schedules with Madison and making it easiest on all Athletic directors in the MSC, logic dictates Salem drops Valley. That would leave week 7 and 9 for non conference. Assuming again, what makes it easy for ADs, Salem would keep Eastern and WW. I find it hard to believe that WW would be eager to drop Salem and vice versa but maybe Eastern is looking to drop Salem week 7. If so, that could pose logistical issues for Salem and maybe Eastern. Currently Valley plays Tecumseh week 7 so that could be an option for them to drop Tecumseh and play Salem week 7 and they play North Daviess week 9 so another Non Conference they could potentially play Salem should WW end up off the Salem schedule. This is mostly speculation, but with some logic built in with current schedules and knowing a few ADs, I’d say they would like to make transitioning in Madison as easy as possible.

I have thought about this a lot recently. How is it that Corydon played close games and had chances vs both Charlestown and Scottsburg also with the win over NH but get smacked by Salem and Madison? It’s the offensive play style of their opponents. Those 3 close games vs NH, Scottsburg, and Charlestown you don’t see as much “get to the edge and sprint to the sideline” vs Corydon’s defense. Salem and Madison lived outside overloading and tossing outnumbering and sprinting. Sure Nh overloads but they are still a between the tackles run team. Charlestown has a ton of speed, but they tried to be more balanced throwing it and running a variety of things. Same with Scottsburg. So based on play style I’m not hopeless with Corydon’s draw. Week 1 will be a tough rematch in Ramsey. Then we will see from there.
