When Paul Brown was the head coach of the Cleveland Browns in 1956, two inventors in the state of Ohio brought him a helmet with a radio transmitter in it. He was able to relay his play calls to his quarterback without substituting players to carry the information from the sideline to the huddle. Brown was able to use the technology in four games before the NFL banned radios in helmets. There were times that the quarterback would heard a nearby taxi dispatcher instead of his coach!
