Boilernation Posted September 11, 2025 Posted September 11, 2025 From a local perspective, why Loyola and not Carmel? The Ramblers are very yound and inexperienced this year. They were VERY lucky to get ou tof Demaree with a W. Merrillville, in typical Pirate fashion, was their own worst enemy in the 2nd half when they could have put Loyola away. Credit to Loyola for finding a way to win, but I think that game showed the Northsiders have a lot of chinks in their armor. Quote

So many early polls are based on historic performance and returning players. Based on what Carmel has done the past several years there was no way to see that they would perform as well as they have so far, and that includes the fact that they brought Kevin Wright into coach. They have had three early impressive wins no doubt, but I guess I still want to see what they do this weekend. As far as Loyola goes, the game against Merrillville was a little surprising, but a review of the team's history indicates that they are a traditionally slow starting squad. Last year, they were blown out in the first game by East St. Louis (but most Illinois teams are as well), then lost their third game of the season to Wheaton St. Francis, who they play this weekend, before righting the ship and winning their final eleven games in a row, including the Class 8A final by 21. They will also be challenged in the state by Chicago Mt. Carmel, East St. Louis and Frankfort Lincoln-Way East for the top spot in the state. Should be interesting year. Quote
