  1. SF normally keeps the Edy's single serving size tubs from the Dollar General by the house handy in the freezer, and on occasion they get in the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ben & Jerry's that I like as well.  This story won't change SF's penchant for good B & J ice cream, but I have to wonder why, if you are a company that makes great ice cream, don't you just stick to that instead of letting some idiot marketing person pop off a personal attitude tweet about your resident country and alienate (probably more than half) your market?  Seriously, you just cost your Corporate ownership a load of money and some goodwill that is tough to come by and tough to hold onto......

    https://nypost.com/2023/07/06/ben-jerrys-boycott-calls-unilever-stock-falls/

Ben & Jerry’s parent company has lost roughly $2.5 billion in market cap amid calls to boycott the Vermont-based ice cream maker over a July 4 tweet condemning the US for existing on “stolen Indigenous land.”

Shares of Unilever, the Anglo-Dutch multinational firm, slid as much as 1% at Thursday’s opening bell after closing down .5% the previous day.

The company’s stock price has fallen to roughly $51 after closing at $52.28 during Monday’s shortened trading — and the day before Ben & Jerry’s posted its unpatriotic tweet.

The result has seen its market cap drop to $131 billion from the roughly $133.5 billion on Monday.

Ben & Jerry’s, which was acquired by Unilever but whose board remains independent in voicing its views on political issues, said the July 4 celebrations can “distract from an essential truth about this nation’s birth.”

“This 4th of July, it’s high time we recognize that the US exists on stolen Indigenous land and commit to returning it,” the brand’s official Twitter account and a statement on Ben & Jerry’s website trumpeted.

“The faces on Mount Rushmore are the faces of men who actively worked to destroy Indigenous cultures and ways of life, to deny Indigenous people their basic rights.”

The tweet and the statement prompted social media users to call for a boycott of the ice cream maker — echoing the reaction to Bud Light’s recent partnership with transgender social media influencer Dylan Mulvaney.

“Make @benndjerrys Bud Light again,” one Twitter user commented.

“Just when you think @benandjerrys couldn’t go any lower – they pull this stunt. Boycott Ben and Jerry’s,” another Twitter user wrote.

Ben & Jerry's landed in hot water over the Independence Day holiday weekend when it posted a tweet that read: “This 4th of July, it’s high time we recognize that the US exists on stolen Indigenous land and commit to returning it.” On Wednesday, Unilever was called out for its hypocrisy over continuing to sell its Cornetto ice cream and other products in Russia in defiance of calls to exit the country over its invasion of Ukraine — while criticizing the US.

Last year, Unilever’s subsidiaries paid $331 million in taxes to the Kremlin, according to reports.

Unilever has defended its decision to continue operations in Russia, saying that leaving the country is “not straightforward.”

If the company pulled up stakes and left Russia, its 3,000 employees and its brands “would be appropriated — and then operated — by the Russian state,” according to the statement.

“In addition, we do not think it is right to abandon our people in Russia,” the firm said.

The Post has sought comment from Unilever and Ben & Jerry’s.

Ben & Jerry’s has been the subject of prior boycott calls over its refusal to sell its ice cream in the Israeli settlements built on the West Bank.

The company ended up suing its corporate parent after it sold the famous brand to a local Israeli licensee who resumed selling ice cream under the Ben & Jerry’s name.

  2. Justice Jackson's comment "Colorblindness for all" is/was the mantra of the black community that ISF was brought up believing in the 70's.  Skin color didn't matter, and that was the basis of MLK - equality for all.

"Deeming race irrelevant in law does not make it so in life" - Sorry, but skin color (among countless other identity traits) truly shouldn't matter.  The past 2 decades of government efforts to divide the population in as many identity groups as possible needs to be called out every chance we can by the population reuniting.

Finally SCOTUS is (IMHO) on the right track.

  3. Hmmm - So, when did Russia get into a war with Iraq?  Was ISF sleeping?

    https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/biden-putin-losing-war-iraq-ukraine-latest-gaffe/story?id=100451751

Twice in 24 hours President Joe Biden misspoke when discussing the Russian invasion of Ukraine, referring to it instead as the war "in Iraq."

The first apparent gaffe occurred Tuesday when Biden was courting Democratic donors at a fundraiser in Chevy Chase, Maryland.

"Think about this: If anybody told you -- and my staff wasn't so sure, either -- that we'd be able to bring all of Europe together in the onslaught on Iraq and get NATO to be completely united, I think they would have told you it's not likely," Biden said. "The one thing Putin counted on was being able to split NATO."

The second mistake happened Wednesday as Biden departed Washington for Chicago, where he delivered a major speech on his economic philosophy. On the South Lawn, Biden was asked about whether Russia's Vladimir Putin is weakened after a short-lived mutiny by Wagner Group leader Yevgeny Prigozhin.

The rebellion, in which Prigozhin's armed forces marched toward Moscow, represented the most significant risk to Putin's authority in his decades in power.

"It's hard to tell, but [Putin's] clearly losing the war in Iraq, losing the war at home. And he has become a bit of a pariah around the world," Biden told reporters.

The White House has not addressed Biden's slips.

Biden's long been prone to such gaffes verbal blunders, even predating his presidency.

Biden's critics and Republicans have often seized on the miscues as an opening to criticize his age and question his fitness for office.

At 80, Biden is the oldest sitting president in history and would be 82 if reelected and sworn in for a second term. Former President Donald Trump, the early Republican front-runner, just turned 77 and would be 79 at the time of his swearing-in were he to win the general election.

As he's faced scrutiny about his health and age after announcing his reelection campaign, Biden's often responded with a common refrain: "Watch me."

Biden previously told ABC News he took a "hard look" at his age himself when weighing whether to run for reelection and respects Americans doing the same.

"I took a hard look at it before I decided to run, and I feel good," Biden told ABC News Chief White House Correspondent Mary Bruce in April. "I feel excited about the prospects, and I think we're on the verge of really turning the corner in a way we haven't in a long time."

  4. Be gay if you want - The overwhelming majority of the US population really don't care a person's sexual preference/orientation until it's waved in their faces non-stop by the fringes.

ISF has 2 very good friends whose wonderful kids have grown into adulthood and are gay.  One is trans (born female - but is identifying male) the other is just a gay guy.  Both are wonderful people who just want to live their lives with their significant others.  Both mainstream, well educated and have enviable careers, but neither want to be affiliated with this fringe left-wing assumption that they are marginalized because of who they are.  Neither has been back to a "Pride" event for years because of the "debauchery"  they both described as being very uncomfortable.  My only issue is remembering to call the cute little girl Mrs. ISF & I remember all the years growing up - "He" instead of "She".  Admittedly it is easier now that "He" has a full beard.  (Which is more than ISF can grow - mine is very scraggly and not at all attractive)

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/companies/anti-lgbtq-backlash-puts-a-chill-on-corporate-america-s-rhetoric/ar-AA1dcHEG

(Bloomberg) -- Anti-LGBTQ protests targeting brands like Target Corp. and Bud Light have cast a broader chill across corporate America. For the first time in years, company mentions of “Pride Month” and other LGBTQ terms were on the decline in regulatory filings and earnings calls, a Bloomberg News analysis found.

References to “Pride Month” in filings, presentations and transcripts from April to June at more than 900 of the largest US companies dropped almost 40% from this time last year, the first decline in five years. Other LGBTQ terms showed similar declines, the analysis found.

“We’re in a toxic stew of a backlash against LGBTQ people, primarily trans people,” said Bob Witeck, a consultant who helps companies such as Walmart Inc. and Marriott International Inc. craft LGBTQ-friendly policies.

Protests against brands with LGBTQ-themed merchandise or marketing campaigns escalated ahead of this year’s June Pride Month. Target reported violent attacks against employees and beer drinkers boycotted Bud Light for its work with trans influencer Dylan Mulvaney. Witeck referred to this rise in violence and anger directed at the community as the “Spring of Ugly.”

While some companies, like Target and the Danish food ingredients maker Chr. Hansen Holding A/Scapitulated to the threats, many others went ahead with unchanged Pride Month plans. But, Witeck said, “they were less vocal about it.”

Are you sure? Took me a 10 sec. Google search to find this. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/sex-redefined-the-idea-of-2-sexes-is-overly-simplistic1/  There are many such articles in reputable scientific publications.

Problem is, many people don’t care about the science. They only use it when convenient to support their real ground of immorality.

So the previous teachings of chromosomes are now considered "overly simplistic"?  It's more complicated (biologically) than that?

I believe their perception of the “enemy” is not common sense, but bigotry, ignorance and prejudice.

So at what point does ISF's position (backed by decades of scientific proof) that there are only 2 genders make me an "enemy" (ie - a prejudiced, ignorant bigot) to the LGBTQ + -  constituencies?

I don’t let terms “offend” me. They’re just words.

    Good to know.

Yes, an enemy of the various constituencies that make up what a lot of ignorant folks refer to generally as the “homosexual community.” The point in this context is that “Ts” have been lumped into the same category as “L’s,” “Gs,” and “Bs” by the bigots who fail to distinguish between them, and object to them all on basically the same [moral] grounds. All of the alphabet constituencies have, in certain situations, grouped themselves together to fight a common enemy.

The ISF (Ignorant SwordFish) doesn't object to anyone's sexual preference.  However, I was brought up under the scientific rule that there are 2 biological genders.  Just because an individual CHOOSES to dress a certain (flamboyant) way, identify their character in a certain way or is attracted to someone else outside of the ordinary male/female coupling doesn't mean they get to redefine genders - BTW, Sorry if the term "homosexual" offends you.

The problem with the philosophy of “the enemy of my enemy is my friend,” is that it doesn’t require any critical analysis of your new “friend.” All you need to know is that you have a common enemy. Nobody thinks about whether the “cure” is actually worse than the disease which, in this case, it actually may be, IMO.

Ponder this: If we had never had a Trump presidency, do you think we’d have to deal with the Biden-Kamala disaster now in progress? Beware the Law of Unintended Consequences.

True.  It took a Carter to bring us a Reagan.

In other words, there was no critical thinking involved in your support of Mr. Trump. It’s merely reactionary.

BR finds a way yet again to call me an idiot utilizing his always eloquent prose.......Impressive as always my friend.

Actually prior to the 2016 election I had hoped there could be a candidate that had no political ties, was not corrupted and easily influenced by the lobbyists and easy money, but was principled in management terms focused on cleaning up.  After he was elected, every interaction I had with his administration and the personnel (Dr. Ben Carson at HUD) was at the utmost professional level and actually with people experienced in getting results.  Much, much more than the 2 previous administrations.  Again - the only President that personally lost money for being our President, and the establishment continues to fire volley after volley to keep him away from DC.  My level of skepticism that either party (for the most part) is able to accomplish anything meaningful other than occupying an office and tossing a few minor league bills around I think is very warranted.

You want to tackle a real issue like abortion, put some real legislation that could garner support from the middle of both parties and get it passed so you can move to the next issue.  Speakers Mcarthy, Mcconnell, Schumer or Pelosi have no interest in solving any real divisive issues, they just want to keep the wedge issues flowing so they can continue to divy up the votes and stay in Washington.

So again, the fact that they don't want him there tells me he is the guy.

The weaponization of DOJ. Does anyone think that if Trump had announced a year ago he wasn’t going to run again that this would be happening? Even after his term — in which he won the title of “Most Divisive President Ever” — is over, he continues to be an incredibly divisive force. He should just go away. The country would be better off.

BR - absolutely correct.  However, even with all his faults - The FACT that the Washington establishment DOESN'T want him there and has employed every weapon in it's arsenal to bring him down convinces me that he is needed more than ever.  The "checks and balances" concept is corrupt in today's politics - broken at the least and for the most part, (IMHO) the foxes are the ones guarding the henhouse.....

So he/she thinks nudity on the White House lawn is OK......And also thinks popping his/her tits out in public is nothing wrong.......

I get that a large percentage of the LGBTQ population just want to live their lives under the radar and I fully support them, but when you have the over-flamers like this person really pushing the envelope all the time and calling anyone who questions their public behavior a homo-hater, it's really tough to be a supporter.

Thankfully the WH Staff had the sense to ban this dude/chick for their inappropriate behavior......

    https://au.news.yahoo.com/topless-photo-at-white-house-sparks-uproar-as-trans-model-banned-224125365.html

A model and social media influencer has reportedly been banned from the White House in the US after posting a video online which shows her posing topless moments after meeting President Joe Biden.

Rose Montoya, a trans model and activist, was among many who were invited to a Pride Party on the South Lawn on Saturday (local time) where the president gave a speech to mark Pride month. However her actions during the gathering have subsequently been slammed as "inappropriate and disrespectful" by the White House.

Following the event, the 27-year-old posted a video to Instagram that included her meeting with the president and First Lady Jill Biden. "It is an honour. Trans rights are human rights," she said posing alongside the US leader.

The video then flashes to the influencer dancing in front of the iconic white building with two shirtless men as she cupped her bare breasts with her hands, covering her nipples as she danced.

The controversial move caught the attention of White House officials, NBC News reports, after heated backlash online.

    White house slams 'disrespectful' act

In a statement overnight, a White House spokesperson told the US news channel that Montoya and the other people featured in her video would be banned from future events organised at the White House.

"This behaviour is inappropriate and disrespectful for any event at the White House. It is not reflective of the event we hosted to celebrate LGBTQI+ families or the other hundreds of guests who were in attendance," the spokesperson said. "Individuals in the video will not be invited to future events."

    Model defends act of nudity

Montoya has since responded to the backlash and defended her display of nudity in another post on Instagram. She said flashing her breasts "is perfectly within the law of Washington, D.C".

While technically true, the White House is considered federal land where local D.C. laws do not universally apply.

"I had zero intention of trying to be vulgar or be profane in any way. I was simply living my joy and my truth and existing in my body," she said.
