Harvard only standing by Claudine Gay as too scared to ‘fire its first black president,’ claims professor she’s accused of plagiarizing
One of the academics accusing Harvard president Claudine Gay of copying her work has blasted the Ivy League school for redefining plagiarism by standing by her — claiming she was only saved because she’s “its first black president.”
Carol Swain, a former political science professor at Vanderbilt University, spoke out hours after Harvard said it was standing by the embattled president — even while conceding some of her academic work needed correcting after an investigation into the plagiarism claims.
“I feel like her whole research agenda, her whole career, was based on my work,” Swain told Fox News Digital of allegations Gay lifted some without proper attribution.
“My blood pressure is rising today because of Harvard’s decision that what she did doesn’t constitute plagiarism, and it doesn’t rise to the level of her removal,” she said.
“My message to Harvard is: You don’t get to redefine what is plagiarism. Most of us know what plagiarism is,” she said.
Harvard Corporation’s decision to stand by the embattled president “is very demeaning to every person, not just racial and ethnic minorities, but anyone who has worked in school, who’s written papers, who’s tried to follow the guidelines,” she complained.
Swain suggested Gay is “getting a free pass” because she was the product of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, echoing claims made by hedge fund billionaire Bill Ackman.
“Obviously, the Harvard Corporation did not have the courage to fire its first black president, someone who should never have been elevated in the first place,” said Swain, who is also black.
“They have decided they would rather lower standards for everyone rather than to hold her — who attended the most, you know, elite schools in America — to the same standards that average Americans are held to.”
Harvard should “apply the same standards to [Gay] as they would apply to a white person under the same circumstances,” Swain also told City Journal.
“A white male would probably already be gone,” she claimed.
Swain still hopes that Gay will “step down” from her position, following in the footsteps of former University of Pennsylvania president Liz Magill who lost her job in the scandal after their congressional testimony about antisemitism and calls for genocide.
“I hope that the pressure doesn’t relent until she does that because she’s harming academia, she’s harming black people,” said Swain.

Here’s a new one: First son Hunter Biden’s attorney Abbe Lowell claimed Monday that his client was indicted because of his proximity to power — not in spite of it.
“It’s because he is the son of the president who’s named Biden,” Lowell told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” in response to last week’s indictment of the 53-year-old handed up by a Southern California grand jury convened by special counsel David Weiss. “Republicans … have tried and tried to say that President Biden has done something wrong. They can’t find a shred of evidence.”
“What they’ve successfully done … is basically saying, ‘OK, I can’t get the president, so I’ll besmirch his son in a way that suggests that there’s something going on between the two of them,'” Lowell added.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if they reach back at a time that Hunter was in a stationery store when he was 11 and took a piece of bubblegum and see if they could charge that,” Lowell moaned about the charges.

"Inclusion cannot be prioritized over safety and fairness," the NCAA legend concluded in her opening remarks. "And ranking member Lee, if my testimony makes me ‘transphobic,’ then I believe your opening monologue makes you a misogynist."
Lee called a point of order, urging that Gaines' remarks to be struck from the record, but the point of order was withdrawn after a brief discussion.

The popular Monrovia, Calif.-based grocer has once again gone viral over a decades-old product-naming practice that has previously been referred to as “racist.”
A youthful TikToker named Kyi (@kyeatdaays) reignited the debate after calling out the free-spirited retailer over the way it chooses names for various packaged foods, based on their imagined country of origin.
Kyi, who currently has just 161 followers on the popular app, managed to snag 2.1 million views, roughly 150,000 likes, and scores of comments on the clip.
She used the popular point-of-view method to illustrate her alleged surprise, upon realizing that a frozen sack of Mandarin Orange Chicken — one of the store’s more obsessed over items — was actually branded as “Trader Ming’s.”
In a caption, she wrote: “POV: U just found out Trader Joe’s does THIS to cultural foods.”
The viral moment calls to mind a 2020 brouhaha begun after a San Francisco Bay Area high school student delivered a petition to the company, requesting that Trader Joe’s cancel the unusual tradition.
Viewers of the new video expressed their own opinions on the subject, many of them lighthearted, with plenty of them expressing support for the retailer.
With more than 560 stores in 43 states, most Americans have already seen the labels, typically found on foods that can be attributed to one specific culture.
“For the Italian food it’s Trader Giottos,” one commenter pointed out.
“Big missed opportunity to call it Trader Zhou’s,” joked another.
Others confessed to enjoying the “Trader Jacques” on various French foods, like the store’s signature wheel of brie cheese.
“As a Mexican, I rather enjoy Trader Jose,” said one happy shopper.
“I thought they were all traders that know each other and sell each other their own foods,” one viewer deadpanned.
Other commenters were surprised that the discussion was taking place at all, saying they thought that the store had halted the naming practice years ago.
“I could have swore they said they were going to stop doing this … omg,” said one, likely referring to a statement Trader Joe’s issued after receiving the 2020 petition.
But after the company’s initial pledge to make the change, it quickly backtracked, saying in another statement that it would be sticking by its longstanding tradition.

Hunter Biden’s indictment on tax charges already is eliciting howls on the left, who feel the case has been “politicized.”
But the details show that the real scandal was the sweetheart deal Hunter was offered in the first place, not what he faces now.
Hunter “spent . . . money on drugs, escorts and girlfriends, luxury hotels and rental properties, exotic cars, clothing, and other items of a personal nature, in short, everything but his taxes,” the indictment states.
This wasn’t an ordinary accounting mistake.
Hunter Biden went out of his way to avoid paying taxes and “subverted the payroll and tax withholding process of his own company, Owasco, PC,” the feds allege.
It was a “scheme” to not pay $1.4 million to Uncle Sam but instead give it to Chastity at the Gentlemen’s Club.
After dithering for years, Hunter was originally offered a no-jail, no-fault misdemeanor plea that would send him merrily on his way.
Why?
The evidence seems pretty clear that the Justice Department was burying it as a favor to Joe Biden.
It took a small number of brave whistleblowers and a straight-talking judge to stop the sham.

Four of the gold bars Sen. Bob Menendez stashed at his home were previously stolen from the businessman accused of bribing the New Jersey Democrat, according to a report.
The serial numbers on some of the gold found by the FBI during a June 2022 raid of Menendez’s Englewood Cliffs, NJ, home match identifiers that Fred Daibes reported to police after a 2013 armed robbery, according to NBC News.
Robbers made off with $500,000 in cash and 22 gold bars from Daibes’ Edgewater, NJ, home during the 2013 heist, the outlet reports.
Police later nabbed four suspects and recovered the stolen gold.
The matching serial numbers indicate that authorities have now directly linked at least some of the gold found in Menendez’s home to Daibes, a New Jersey real estate developer and Menendez fundraiser.

WASHINGTON - A Native American group filed a lawsuit against the Washington Commanders in federal court this morning that upends a long-standing cancel-culture narrative about racism in sports.
The Native American Guardians Association (NAGA) accuses the NFL franchise and new owner Josh Harris of defamation, civil conspiracy and civil rights violations for their role in suppressing Native American history, in a complaint filed in the United States District Court of North Dakota.
NAGA led a viral petition this summer demanding that the organization reclaim its traditional Redskins identity. It generated 150,000 signatures.
"Commanders is a fitting name for oppressors," the suit stated.
The group seeks $1.6 million in damages and "a seat at the table to share Native American history," plaintiff attorney Chad LaVeglia told Fox News Digital.
"We believe the complaint is without merit, and we will address the matter in court," said a Commanders spokesperson.
The complaint also names the powerful National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) for its role in erasing from public discussion the image and history of real Native Americans. The suit claims that the NCAI contributes to a legacy of cultural oppression suffered by indigenous peoples.
"The name ‘Redskins’ carries deep cultural, historical, and emotional significance, honoring the bravery, resilience, and warrior spirit associated with Native American culture," the NAGA complaint states.
The Redskins were, it adds, "the only team in the National Football League (NFL) to honor an actual Native American."
Central to the NAGA argument is that the Redskins name and logo were inspired by real historic tribal leaders who played influential roles in American history and that this factual narrative was obliterated by the NCAI.
The franchise adopted the name Redskins in 1933 and, since 1972, the team logo was a portrait of celebrated late Blackfoot Chief John Two Guns White Calf.

“[A]round 11:58 p.m. … Secret Service agents encountered possibly three individuals breaking a window on a parked and unoccupied government vehicle,” Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said.
“During this encounter, a federal agent discharged a service weapon and it is believed no one was struck,” Guglielmi said.
“The offenders immediately fled the scene in a red vehicle and a regional lookout was issued to supporting units. There was no threat to any protectees and the incident is being investigated by the DC Metropolitan Police Department and the Secret Service.”

“The first-ever head of state summit on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response is a historic milestone in the urgent drive to make all people of the world safer, and better protected from the devastating impacts of pandemics,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General. “I welcome this commitment by world leaders to provide the political support and direction needed so that WHO, governments and all involved can protect people’s health and take concrete steps towards investing in local capacities, ensuring equity and supporting the global emergency health architecture that the world needs.”
The political declaration, approved by Mr Dennis Francis, President of the 78th United Nations General Assembly, and the result of negotiations under the able leadership of Ambassadors Gilad Erdan of Israel and Omar Hilale of Morocco, underscored the pivotal role played by WHO as the “directing and coordinating authority on international health,” and the need to “commit further to sustainable financing that provides adequate and predictable funding to the World Health Organization, which enables it to have the resources needed to fulfil its core functions.”
“The lived experience of people who suffered through the COVID-19 pandemic must be at the forefront of our minds going forward in order to realize the clear direction provided by world leaders,” said Dr Tedros. “We must learn how to protect our communities better and to engage, inform and empower them to be part of the solution. We need to build stronger clinical care systems that can save lives. Doing so requires concrete actions to ensure equitable access to medical countermeasures, sustainable and adequate financing, empowered and engaged communities and robust, trained and equipped health workers.”
“The devastating impacts of COVID-19 demonstrated why the world needs a more collaborative, cohesive and equitable approach to preventing, preparing for and responding to pandemics,” said Dr Tedros.
Dr Tedros said governments and multilateral partners have already commenced building the foundations for a safer world, with the establishment of the Pandemic Fund, the WHO Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence, the WHO BioHub to voluntarily share novel biological materials, and the mRNA vaccine technology transfer hub.
However, Dr Tedros added that the political declaration approved on Wednesday called for further strengthening of the global health emergency architecture to better protect the world from a repeat of COVID-19.
Among numerous measures required, the political declaration recognized the need for Member States to:
- Conclude negotiations on a WHO convention, agreement or other international instrument on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response, otherwise known as the Pandemic Accord, and continue their work to make targeted amendments to the International Health Regulations (2005) by May 2024;
- In line with the Pandemic Accord process, ensure the sustainable, affordable, fair, equitable, effective, efficient and timely access to medical countermeasures, including vaccines, diagnostics, therapeutics and other health products;
- Take measures to counter and address the negative impacts of health-related misinformation, disinformation, hate speech and stigmatization, especially on social media platforms, on people’s physical and mental health, including countering vaccine hesitancy in the context of pandemic prevention, preparedness and response and to foster trust in public health systems and authorities, including by increasing public health education, literacy and awareness, while recognizing that the effective engagement of stakeholders requires access to timely, accurate and evidence-based information and awareness raising including through the use of digital health tools;
- To protect our communities through investing in primary health care and other health system measures, as part of a commitment to universal health coverage, so to ensure robust national health systems are in place to respond to future pandemics;
- Invest in ensuring WHO is strengthened to the level needed to play its role in responding to pandemic threats. Sustainable financing of WHO, and national health systems, is essential for making the world safer;
- Strengthen health workforce and rapid response capacities, surveillance and supply systems, and local manufacturing abilities, to enable and empower all countries to have the ability to meet their own needs to prevent, prepare for and respond to pandemics.
- Scale up health system capacities to address pandemic threats in low- and lower-middle income countries, especially across Africa;
- Counter and address the negative impacts of health-related misinformation, disinformation, hate speech and stigmatization, especially on social media platforms, on people’s physical and mental health, in order to strengthen pandemic prevention, preparedness and response, and foster trust in public health systems and authorities;
- Leverage the potential of the multilateral system and scale up the multisectoral approach needed to improve pandemic prevention, preparedness and response, due to the multifaceted causes and consequences of pandemics, which support attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Following today’s approval of the political declaration by the UN General Assembly president, leaders of United Nations Member States delivered statements on the critical importance of pandemic prevention, preparedness and response and the need for a robust, coordinated and comprehensive global health emergency architecture.

Parents, forced to be isolated with students during the pandemic, found they were able to be a huge part of their kids education and felt empowered being able to positively affect students' attitudes and personal attributes without their kids being exposed to extremely left or right wing leaning teachers that are everywhere in the system. Now the NEA are certainly concerned about that......

A female student-athlete reportedly had two of her teeth knocked out during a high school field hockey game last week after a shot struck by an opposing male player deflected off a teammate’s stick and caused the facial injury.
According to reports, the incident happened during the first round of the field hockey state playoffs between two Massachusetts high schools — Dighton-Rehoboth and Swampscott — on Thursday.

Dighton-Rehoboth Superintendent Bill Runey wrote a letter to families reported by local media, saying a male athlete on the Swampscott girls’ field hockey team took a shot that left “significant facial and dental injuries” to one of the team’s female athletes, which required hospitalization.
“When I stepped onto that bus last night when our girls got back to Regional Road, what I saw on their eyes was trauma,” Runey told a local NBC News channel.
Runey said the unidentified injured student, who had worn a mouthguard and headgear at the time of the incident, has since been released from the hospital.
Swampscott Public Schools Athletic Director Kelly Wolff told local media the player who took the shot is a “4-year varsity player and co-captain, who, per MIAA [Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association] rules, has the exact same right to participate as any player on any team.”
“In our MIAA Tournament field hockey game Thursday, a player on the visiting team suffered an unfortunate injury on a legal play after being struck by a shot that deflected off her teammate’s stick,” Wolfe said. “We are sorry to see any player get hurt and wish the Dighton-Rehoboth player a speedy recovery.”
Under section 43 of the MIAA’s 2023-2025 Handbook for Rules and Regulations Governing Athletics, students “shall not be excluded from participation on a gender-specific sports team that is consistent with the student’s bona fide gender identity.”
Officials from MIAA, which represents 383 member schools and all student-athletes, released a statement that said, in part, that it “strives to create a welcoming, safe and belonging atmosphere for all participants.”
“Massachusetts General Law was originally enacted to protect students from discrimination based on sex, and later expanded to protect students based on gender identification. As a result of this law, and consistent with the interpretive guidance offered by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, athletic opportunities must be afforded to students in accordance with their identified gender, not necessarily their birth-assigned gender,” MIAA officials reportedly wrote.
The latest controversy over co-ed sports fueled Dighton-Rehoboth Superintendent Runey to address player safety.
“While I understand that the MIAA has guidelines in place for co-ed participation under section 43 of their handbook, this incident dramatically magnifies the concerns of many about player safety,” Runey wrote.
Runey told NBC that although he understands the law, he suggested the “hand strung” MIAA should “find a middle ground” to increase player safety.
“If anything, I think a change to the guidelines on protective headgear is certainly in order,” he said.

President Biden made several claims during the 2020 presidential debates that 3 years later are being labeled as falsehoods by conservatives as evidence continues to trickle out in the investigations into his son Hunter’s foreign business dealings.
"My son has not made money in terms of this thing you’re talking about, what are you talking about, China," Biden said on the debate stage leading up to the 2020 election.
Since that claim, Hunter Biden contradicted his dad earlier this year, admitting in court that he received $664,000 from a "Chinese infrastructure investment company."
In December 2013, Hunter Biden traveled with his dad on an Asia trip, which included China as a stop, and introduced him to his Chinese business partner Jonathan Li in the lobby of the hotel where the U.S. delegation was staying. A recent closed-door interview with Hunter's former business partner, Devon Archer, revealed that the elder Biden would have coffee with him too during the visit. Less than two weeks later, Hunter would enter into a joint-venture called BHR Partners, a Beijing-backed private equity firm controlled by Bank of China Limited.
"Lie, deny, counter accuse," GOP Rep. Pat Fallon of Texas, a member of the House Oversight Committee, posted on X on Wednesday with a clip of Biden’s claim about his son’s dealings in China. "The three principles of the Biden family influence peddling scheme!"
Also on Wednesday, the House Oversight Committee released information it says shows that Biden received $40,000 in "laundered China money" from the bank account of his brother and his sister-in-law in the form of a personal check which would contradict another debate claim from candidate Biden.
"I have not taken a penny from any foreign source ever in my life!" Biden said on the debate stage. "I have not taken a single penny from any country whatsoever, ever."
House Oversight Chair James Comer said that even if the check — which was 10% of the $400,000 sent to Hunter's company Owasco — was, in fact, a loan repayment, "it still shows how Joe benefited from his family cashing in on his name — with money from China no less."
While President Biden has maintained he was never in business with his son, text messages obtained by Fox News Digital back in 2020 revealed that Joe Biden, in May 2017, met with Hunter's business associates for the Sinohawk venture — specifically, Tony Bobulinski. The meeting on May 2, 2017, would have taken place just 11 days before a May 13, 2017, email obtained by Fox News in 2020, which included a discussion of "remuneration packages" for six people in the business deal with CEFC.
The email includes a note that "Hunter has some office expectations he will elaborate." A proposed equity split references "20" for "H" and "10 held by H for the big guy?" with no further details.
