Yep.  Used to be a two horse race annually.  Now the suburban schools are not only holding their own, they are winning them too.

Just taking a snapshot of the last 10 years (shared titles are given to both schools)

    CG - 5

    BD - 4

    Carmel - 3

    Warren - 2

    The previous 16 years:

    BD - 7

    Warren - 7

    CG - 3

    Carmel - 3

This doesn’t even take into account the other sports which are now also being dominated by the two suburban schools, or at least were… prior to the strongly worded letter.

As I said in another thread, let’s just call this what it is.

I see what you’re saying but outside of CG’s past two year run I don’t really think you can say the suburbans have dominated… Carmel has one outright title in the past decade and only shared it twice… CG has three outright and 2 shared. Compare that with 3 shared and 1 outright for BD, and 2 outright and 1 shared for WC (and I think it’s worth mentioning that they won the title outright in 2010 and 2011, giving them 4 outright titles in that decade), and it seems like the Big 4 aren’t quite yet just a Big 2. Idk, I haven’t seen the letter nor do I have the inside information you likely do, so I’m not saying you’re wrong. I just have a hard time believing the coaches of WC and BD specifically wanted Carmel and CG out basically because those programs are getting too good.

It's pretty easy to do - especially since it will likely only affect two. Just put the 7-team sectional in 3A & 1A in an area where Chatard & LCC could easily drop in.

Yeah but that would require planning ahead on the IHSAA’s part. And a lack of planning ahead is the reason this is messed to begin with haha

There was apparently some bad data. Have heard from several people the IHSAA has circulated a memo to the schools stating the enrollments posted have some discrepancies and are in the process of being corrected.

Yeah, just from looking it seemed like Andrean’s enrollment was way high. Last time I heard they had about 400 kids in the school, and that sheet had them nearly back to 600.

Call me crazy, but I feel like 5A North is pretty simple.

Sectional 9: Hammon Central, Hammond Morton, Merrillville, Munster
Sectional 10: Chesterton, LaPorte, Michigan City, Valparaiso
Sectional 11: Concord, Goshen, Mishawaka, SB Adams
Sectional 12: Anderson, FW Dwenger, FW North, FW Snider

5A South could have a few options:

Sectional 13: Decatur Central, Harrison (WL), McCutcheon, Plainfield
Sectional 14: Bloomington North, Bloomington South, Terre Haute North, Terre Haute South
Sectional 15: Columbus East, Franklin, Seymour, Whiteland
Sectional 16: Castle, Evansville North, Floyd Central, New Albany

Sectional 13: Harrison (WL), McCutcheon, Terre Haute North, Terre Haute South
Sectional 14: Bloomington North, Bloomington South, Decatur Central, Plainfield
Sectional 15: Columbus East, Franklin, Seymour, Whiteland
Sectional 16: Castle, Evansville North, Floyd Central, New Albany

Sectional 13: Decatur Central, Harrison (WL), McCutcheon, Plainfield
Sectional 14: Bloomington North, Bloomington South, Franklin, Whiteland
Sectional 15: Columbus East, Floyd Central, New Albany, Seymour
Sectional 16: Castle, Evansville North, Terre Haute North, Terre Haute South

Looks accurate. Feel like Anderson could go south and either Harrison or McCutcheon could come up north, but the ihsaa will probably keep the Lafayette school together. Plus sending Anderson south sort of keeps things clean. The first batch of sectionals you have for the south would make the most sense to me. 5A actually seems like it’ll be pretty interesting this year. No team stands out as a clear favorite like the past couple of years.

Dude. You almost quoted the movie correctly. Well done junior.

I never played you. I was never your whipping boy.

I wasn’t trying to directly quote the movie, only play on it for the situation. Thought that was pretty obvious, but I guess that’s asking too much of you.
And yeah, you were just the coach of all our whipping boys. They were soft just like their coach.

Took you long enough junior. Take you that long to think of it?

Your comments don’t change the fact that your beloved niners were our whipping boys.

Anyways. Excited for Coach Kennedy and the Kougars.

You took as long to respond to me as I did to you lol. And without even a witty comment or a good comeback. Dumb and without basic self-awareness is no way to go through life son.

And like I said, I wasn’t involved in those teams in any way nor do I care. I mean jeez man I know you peaked in high school but get over it already, it was 30 years ago. And you guys weren’t even good lol. But I hope that makes you feel better, because the teams you coached and were actually involved with were our whipping boys. And since you coached them, you were kinda our whipping boy too. How did it feel to be my whipping boy DE?  Clearly you’re still a little salty about it.

Lastly, I’d say I wish KK more success than you at KV, but it’s not like that’s saying anything.

  7. I think any team who’s only been bumped up for this past year should stay up for this next cycle. I just don’t think it makes logical sense to bump teams up and make other teams stay up because of the past two years and then let other teams bump down based off one year. As most people on here said at the time, IHSAA screwed this whole thing up last year by applying the success factor but not reclassifying enrollments. Now you’re going to have some schools feeling slighted no matter what happens.

You said never. Facts. Get a refund for the education.

BTW skippy, Andrean was a speed bump for us when I played.

You were never good w facts. ✌️

If you think the best team in KV history going 2-2 against Lowell, Hobart and Andrean, and getting blown out in the most important games, constitutes having the talent to compete, idk what to tell you. 1 team in history went 500 against them. Nice.

And I didn’t go to Andrean 35 years ago, so your comment doesn’t matter to me. Congrats on being the mediocre QB on some mediocre LC teams. All I know is that the teams you coached for in the last decade couldn’t have even been considered a speedbump for us 😉. Probably why you’re not coaching anymore.

And I would say an Andean education would’ve helped you, but really you can’t fix stupid, so it probably would’ve been a waste of money for you.

  9. 5 minutes ago, DE said:

Didn’t say that. You said never. 15 points isn’t waxed.

Just proving your statement factually wrong. 😉

Eh, I honestly forgot it was only 16 points because it felt like 30. Probably the best team in KV history and they couldn’t even get within two touchdowns of the Niners. If you really are proud of that idk what to tell you. We beat Kougar brains in that night. I remember what Mason told us after the game “Tonight, you took those boys to the woodshed”.

And don’t know how you proved my statement “factually incorrect”, but you’ve never been very good with facts, so I’m not surprised.

The potential ramifications of this are very interesting to me.

    1. Can Kennedy build the Kougars into a legitimate threat in the 4A North?
    2. Will the Lowell faithfull turn on Kilmer if their neighbors to the southeast surpass Lowel in 4A North hierarchy?

I'm not familiar with South Lake County and Northern Jasper County. I know Lowell has had some really good individual talent lately, but is there an overwhelming difference between the talent available in these neighboring school districts?

    1. Highly doubt it, even if 4A North has been extremely weak the past few years.
    2. Maybe, but the chances of KV surpassing Lowell any time soon are slim to none.

Not to play Debbie downer, but I don’t see this as a real game-changing move for KV. They’ve been mediocre at best for the past 30+ years. They have never had the talent to compete with Hobart, Lowell, or Andrean. Don’t see that changing. Their ceiling is 4th-best team in the NCC imo. But nice to see KK back in the Region.

Name a school that is over 50 percent free and reduced lunch and is not in the top half of its class in enrollment and has had long term success.

    I’ll wait…

Your point holds, but I think the right coach can make up for some of this. Since Phil Mason took over at MC 6 years ago, they’ve won 3 regionals. They’re one of the smallest schools in 5A and while I’m not sure, I’d bet the house they’re over 50% free/reduced lunch.

IHSAA rules only apply to IHSAA sanctioned sports.  Is it fair?  No.  But it's also not fair that I'm overweight and losing my hair.

“Is taxation without representation fair? No. But it’s also not fair that I’m overweight and losing my hair.”

Apply this logic to almost anything and you see how completely ridiculous it is lol. I get you were joking, but governing bodies making ridiculous regulations should be challenged, even if it’s something as frivolous as high school sports.

Not really accurate. Apart from Jeff blowing out Lake Central a couple times in sectionals, Merrillville is the only Duneland team they have played in the past 3 seasons. 2 were blowout losses while one went down to the wire but they still lost.

But yeah they have certainly struggled with Merrillville

I remember them getting blown out by LC about 5 or so years ago in sectional play too. Either way, they’ve only proven they can beat whoever the DAC doormat is that year

Yes, Michigan City will be a good step for Jeff in addition to adding Cathedral; however, and this is not a knock on Jeff, but more a realization, it will need a tougher schedule than just those opening couple of weeks.  Here's their schedule for next season, but they will basically have about 3-4 opportunities to be highly-tested.  Again, it's not typically the first couple of games that are issues for Harrison and Jeff, but the rest of the season that does them little favor for post-season ... especially for Harrison now moving up to 6A.

    image.png.e61cfc27d5642fbe2e2d5f300ad06d14.png

Both programs are unfortunately stuck in no man’s land in this regard. Too far for both the DAC and the larger Indy conferences. Don’t know how this would be solved other than for both teams to go independent (highly unlikely). Penn and Elkhart have a similar problem as well,  a little too far from both the DAC and SAC. IMO the DAC has the best chance of up-ending Indy at some point, in large part because of the fact it is solely a 5/6A conference. 6A teams playing basically any team below 5A (obviously with some exceptions) is essentially a waste of a game.

  16. Are we to the point where the first team from outside the Indy donut that goes to LOS and wins will be immortalized in Indiana hs football lore forever? Like South Oak Cliff, the team that just broke the 50 year state title drought for inner city Dallas teams? Obviously not anywhere near that length of a drought, but right now the odds seem almost insurmountable for a team to actually pull that off.

Jeff will at least get 5A Cathedral next year, but outside of the Irish and Harrison, its only real competition is likely to be 5A Kokomo.  I'm not sure where Jeff and Harrison could go in terms of picking up competition given that they aren't welcome in the HCC and only get two non-conference opponents are year based on the size of the NCC.  Not sure if they would be welcome in the MIC and not sure who else "welcomes" them in that has substantial 6A bodies.

I saw Jeff is playing Michigan City next year. I’d say that’s some “real competition”. The Bronchos have really struggled with the Duneland’s top teams.
