  1. Huge S/O to NW for blowing an 18 pt halftime lead now the Boilers have a chance to clinch vs IU Saturday probably not gonna be a fun road trip to WL for the Hoosiers .

oh well you get the last 2 at home in very winnable games win 1 or 2 in the Big 10 tourney and your sitting at a solid 5 maybe sneak to a 4 seed on Selection Sunday and let’s go from there !

  2. Tough one tonight for more reasons than 1 . The emotions will be high in that building tonight tough ask for any team to go in the Breslin center and win under normal circumstances.

2-2 in the last 4 will be fine with hopefully 1-2 wins in Chicago you never know ? should keep a favorable 4 or 5 seed in March . Just glad I can go into selection not sweating / excited for the first time since 2016. Enjoying this stretch run for sure !

  3. As far as the Men’s go another big game tonight in Evanston . Not a must win from a NCAA tourney standpoint a must win for other reasons

    1) sole possession of 2nd in the Big Ten

2)I don’t think PU runs away with the title and suddenly that match up in Mackey gets real interesting especially if Maryland can clip them on Thurs.

    3) road wins continue to show growth of your program and helps NCAA tourney seeding seeing IU as high as 3 seed . Should help avoid long flights and early round upset match ups . ( I want NOTHING to do with Oral Roberts and Max Abrams !)

no matter what continues to be the most fun I’ve had watching the Hoosiers since 2016

Teri Moren has built and absolute buzz saw in Bloomington . Also I don’t think you can overstate the importance of Sydney Parrish transferring back to IU , shows top instate recruits that Indiana is a desirable destination instead of being lured away by top programs like UCONN or Oregon

though I will say seems like South Carolina is a totally different animal after beating #3 LSU by almost 30 points . We shall see come April hopefully

  5. For sure , however in college basketball and especially Indiana it’s a what have you done for me lately business.

Rutgers has had your number the last couple of times you’ve met , last year after a massive win vs Purdue they got ran off their own home court by Michigan.

I feel like Indiana under Mike Woodson has at times taken 1 step forward but then also taken 1 step backward ending right back up where you were .  Reality is this is a very big game Tuesday night . A win ties you for 2nd in the Big Ten and might solidify you as the only challenger to the Boilers in the Big 10 this year and set you down a course to be very comfortable on Selection Sunday

  6. 12 years , 3 coaches , dozens of different players . Last night they looked like the same old IU Big Ten road performance. 1 step forward - 2 steps back it’s sad I want them to succeed I like Mike Woodson I get these are young college kids but as a fan it’s just so darn frustrating to watch it time and time again

i realize the glory days are long gone and so do most rational fans . I just want a program that can consistently compete in the top half of the Big Ten . Win 21-25 games a year and be a solid presence in the NCAA tourney and who knows when a run can happen ?

your roster is comprised of an All American , 2 5-star freshman and multiple seniors and you can’t win a road game against a team that is 0-3 in the Big Ten and lost to Eastern Illinois at home ?

I know it’s early January BUT these next couple of games might decide to fate of the Hoosiers this season they could dig themselves a hole they won’t get out of like they almost did last year

I don't know about biggest threat, Linton will have something to say about that i'm sure, TC will be really good i agree, but so will Linton, they bring back a lot as well!

Linton might have lost more than Triton Central but in my opinion they were a far superior team to begin with. The regional championship game MD played against TC was never in doubt and had a running clock the very beginning of the second half. The MD game with Linton was a slugfest and a nail biter to the end. I would give the edge to Linton right now but I guess that's why we play the games. We will see it all on the field soon.

Can someone point out to me which team gave Mater Dei there closest game in the Southern half of 2A 🤔 I’m having some trouble

That is not correct. Any time the defense possesses the ball in OT, the play is over.  OT rule 5-1-1: “If the defensive team gains possession, the ball becomes dead immediately and the offensive team’s series of downs is ended.”

Gotcha thanks so much for letting us know! We really weren’t sure so we took there word for it . Overall they were a solid crew . A few late game PI calls 😉 wish we wouldn’t have seen but a good crew in a high stakes emotional game

  10. On 4th and 15 , Speedway intercepted Cascade in the Endzone and the play was blown dead immediately with no chance of a return . speedway has yet to posses the ball . Was this the right call or should the speedway defender been allowed to return the interception and end the game ?

    Some bad takes here:

    - Brebeuf at #1 in 4A

    - East Central only at #10

    - Any 4A North team being ranked higher than a 4A South team

    - Zionsville over HSE

    - Whiteland at #3 in 5A

    - No Valpo in 5A

    - No Norwell in 3A

    - No Park Tudor in 1A

    - No Heritage Christian in 2A

    - Triton Central at #4 in 2A

Triton Central is absolutely loaded they have everyone back off a Regional team that lost to Mater Dei . They are the biggest threat to Mater Dei in the 2A South . Plus a great coach in Tim Able . 3-6 range in 2A

2021 was more disappointing for Harrison than the 2020 season vs. Zionsville.  Harrison is still on a rise as a program and still is feeling out the start/stops and sputters that often hit a team as they make that transition.  My boys have only been on the inside of the Harrison programs for about the last four years or so, so my understanding of the inner-workings is somewhat limited.  From what I've seen, however, the program is in an ascendancy and should see, hopefully, increased productivity in the coming years.

I don't know that Harrison is better equipped to take out Decatur Central ... I'm not very familiar with DC.  What I have seen with the Harrison program in just the last few years, from a behind the scenes perspective, is increased competition at the undercard levels in building the pipeline.  A couple of seasons ago, Harrison had the largest freshman football class in the history of the school.  That team closed the gap with Westfield to a TD.  Last season, that freshman team as JV squad, forced Westfield to come from behind and kick a 40+yard field goal to escape with a 1-point win.  Historically, those games were never anywhere close with Westfield being heavily dominant.  I was looking forward to the Harrison-Westfield matchup season this year as a measuring stick to see if that idea of undercard moving through the pipeline pays dividends or not; however, Westfield won't have Harrison this upcoming season as they are going in a different direction facing off against Lawrence Central and New Pal while Harrison will faceoff against Plainfield and down-the-road foe West Lafayette.  In the past couple of seasons, Harrison's undercards have played a modified schedule rather than the NCC undercards.  Harrison's freshman squad played a couple of games against JV squads in the NCC rather than freshman counterparts and also played non-NCC when varsity played NCC.  Harrison's JV squad did similar a couple of times, since the NCC counterpart was playing Harrison's freshman squad, and played non-NCC competition like Chatard.

Where all of that will take Harrison is still to be seen.  Realize that it was just about a decade ago that Harrison had three back-to-back 0-10 seasons, so Harrison is still very much in a building part of the program.  Nonetheless, there's a lot of excitement as to where the program is and where it can get to.  The biggest downfall in all of this for Harrison, at least from where I see it, is that they are making good strides and doing well, but they are going to get thrust up into 6A before they likely get the chance to "stabilize" the growth that they've been seeing.  It is what it is though and you take the hands that you are dealt and move forward from there.  Hopefully the buy-in and momentum remains ... a good showing in 5A these next couple of seasons could go a long way feeding that fire.

Thanks for the write-up I appreciate it! I will definitely be keeping an eye on that sectional this fall should be a fun one !

It's about three years late and they got the benefit of a pair of visits to LOS in the interim.

Harrison's in the same boat in that they have a two-year two-minute warning that 6A is coming and a couple of seasons to do what they are going to do in 5A before heading up to a new bag in 6A.

Genuine question what makes Harrison better equipped to take out Decatur Central vs Zionsville ? Especially after 2020 season seems as though that Harrison team was loaded with talent and had it not been for a couple of late scores wouldn't have been within 3 scores of the Eagles.

Most Indy Area teams would agree the talent gap between Zionsville and Decatur Central is razor thin if there is one at all .

Geography. The WIC is largely Cascade's old WCC neighbors - their division would likely be the four Putnam County schools + West Vigo. That's much more appealing than sending teams to Triton Central and through Indy traffic to get to Beech Grove and Lutheran for baseball and volleyball.

You may be right, I have a hard time believing this decision is made solely with that  idea alone, but you probably know more than I do (being married I'm used to never being right ).

Personally I believe that a portion of the decision is competitiveness for their Football program I wouldn't think people are stupid for thinking so. Especially when you drive out to Cascade and see their Football stadium which would make many 3-4A schools blush .

Honestly I could careless what the real reason is or trying to convince anyone on here I know anything at all . Its almost impossible to be a fan on this site anymore people so desperately crave the conflict of old can't tell you how many time I start to comment then just think why bother? but I don't donate so many I deserve it .

I don't see this for WeBo... Going to Triton Central for a Thursday Night Freshman Basketball game makes zero sense... Football wise, maybe.  not for the other Sports.

As opposed to traveling to Greenfield Central like you did this year? Personally I think travel itself is under a drastic change in HS Sports in the age of COVID, Bus driver shortage, and stricter budgets . Carpools are becoming much more common .

Just a reminder for those playing along with DT's thought exercise - football is only one of 20 IHSAA-sanctioned sports and a school that may be struggling in football may still be a good fit in a conference in terms of geography, school population and competitiveness in other sports.

Cascade currently sits atop the overall sports championship for the ICC , yet they are leaving? a school switching conferences despite being competitive in a majority of sports is not unheard of 🙄 *condescension noted

Why would Webos leave the Sagamores?

This is where this site gets exhausting , I'm not saying they have even looked into it, but why does any school cooperation make any decision it does (and this is coming from an educator) ? I do think the Sagamore is very top heavy in football maybe they would enjoy a little more balance? Lets not pretend like its the craziest thing that would have happened in HS sport besides the Milan Miracle .............

  17. Cascade will depart from the Indiana Crossroads Conference at the conclusion of next season and return to the WIC . Candidates have been discussed but nothing official has been announced. Teams simply mentioned via word of mouth who might be interested and would be good fits (Again I'm not saying these teams have even applied for membership just more merely discussed among coaches and member schools) .

    1) Covenant Christian

    2) Western Boone

    3) Park Tutor (rejoin)

    4) Indian Creek

    5) Lapel (rejoin)

IMO Covenant would be the best fit . It would give a balance of private and public schools . Geography makes a lot of sense. Would maintain a competitive balance beneficial to Covenant and the other member schools.

  18. Personally I would flip Triton Central and Scecina . The Crusaders are definitely top 10 worthy in 2A and have some pieces coming back but TC has EVERYONE back off a regional championship appearance. The playmaking trio of QB Stucky , WR Schultz, and RB Crawford will give teams fits . The ICC will be Fun and deep as always (TC, Scecina , Lutheran, Speedway, and Monrovia) all have a shot at the conference title IMO .

Agree Lutheran from south. Not sure it'll be close (admittedly don't know what CC returns). Just to talk about someone different ill be watching Providence closely. Coming from 2A they have a good style. I assume they replace Perry Central in sectional 48. They could be a quietly good team and they play a good schedule.

Covenant returns more playmakers IMO , but a Dave Pasch coached team will always be a tough out in November . Covenant has also done a better job of beefing up there schedule ( Speedway , Adams Central, Heritage Christian, and Park Tutor )  but you can't replicate the schedule of the ICC absolutely brutal conference.

  20. Administrators ego's are effecting this as well . It used to be when a teacher came in for an interview one of the questions asked was what sport could you coach ? Now I told a fellow young coach/teacher , don't even mention coaching unless they bring it up and most won't anymore . Head coaches need guys in the building and principals refuse to help, principals want to find a teacher on there own. I've seen numerous times were guys coach at one schools and teach at another and get constantly passed over for multiple positions in the district , good teachers already a little extra invested in that districts students can't get a sniff because there name was brought to an admin .

its funny the misconception around many Football coaches . I've always said could you imagine the way the administration and the school cooperation as a whole would look at a teacher who - lets say was say "in charge of the year book" or the "Sophomore class sponsor and they spent even half the time outside of school with the students that Football coaches do?  They would win teacher of the year every year.

Its sad but I've always said most go into Administration for 1 of 3 reasons

    1) The are tired and/or not very good in the classroom

    2) They want Admin level money

    3) Both 1 and 2
