I do think the game at Ohio State was their last chance to have a shot at the tournament. The announcers said they are a bubble team, but I don’t see that at this point. That said, they also said Ohio State is a 4 seed. I don’t see that either. IU should have walked out with a win in regulation. They did not need 3 point shots in either of the last two possessions. Xavier Johnson will never understand that he cannot drive for layups as well. He puts his team in difficult spots far too often. He played well most of the game too, but then loses it in the last few minutes, and it’s not the first time he has done that. Part of me thinks Woodson is just doing what he can with the guys he has. There is some talent on the roster, and they are young. They play great defense most of the time, a vast improvement over previous seasons. It’s definitely frustrating being a fan. They was WAY too much hype coming into the season.

Are they an NCAA Tourney Team? Probably not BUT again I've said it every year they have played this bubble madness the magic number is 20 , doesn't matter how IU is still a brand and will sell tickets can you imagine if IU is in a first four play in game vs North Carolina in Dayton? Dear lord they would jam pack that place FULL then winner gets a #5 seed game vs UConn? every year IU is in the tourney they are in UNC or UKs bracket coincidence I don't think so it makes the NCAA $$$$$$$$$

The next 3 games are key if IU wins them they will be 19 wins and finish 10-10 in the Big Ten . They are in not because they deserve it or they are capable of even winning a game because they are probably not , but this fan base will flock to wherever they are playing and will BUY BUY BUY and the NCAA will take a good hard look at fanbases a requirement for making this years tourney after the last 2 years .

  2. I had a little bit of a knee jerk reaction to Saturday loss against Illinois as did most Hoosier fans I think. Indiana currently stand solidly in the field for all bracketology most have them as a 7 or 8 seed . A lot of ball left to play but really I think Indiana only need 3 wins to put themselves in the field on selection Sunday .  Anything on top pf that is just icing on the cake . This was all I wanted the last 6 years . A massive step forward under Mike Woodson hope the trend continues . Go Hoosiers

Indiana (16-6, 7-5) has not made the NCAA Tournament since 2016. Here is their remaining schedule:

    • at Northwestern (Quadrant 1)
    • at Michigan State (Quadrant 1)
    • vs. Wisconsin (Quadrant 1)
    • at Ohio State (Quadrant 1)
    • vs. Maryland (Quadrant 3)
    • at Minnesota (Quadrant 2)
    • vs. Rutgers (Quadrant 3)
    • at Purdue (Quadrant 1)

The eye test is a key to see how this program is better. Basically the same kids playing that they had a year ago. But this team plays defense, and they play hard. Poor free throw shooting and a lack of consistency on offense has been their achilles heal. The effort against Purdue last night was great. There were moments I was worried. We knew Purdue would make a run in the 2nd half, and sure enough, they did. When they drained a couple 3’s early, I am sure many fans thought the same that I did…..oh no, here we go again. I am looking for the final stats, because the halftime stats showed some things that were big. Bench scoring was 24-2. If Purdue’s bench does not contribute more, it could be another earlier than they should have exit. Turnovers were 10-1 in IU’s favor. Considering that IU turned it over 23 times against Iowa, and finished last night with just 3 is huge. Rob Phinisee was noticeable all night. Jut seems like he is not a favorite of Woodson’s for some reason, but what a great game he had. That 3 for the lead was huge. Xavier was his usually self though…..still dribbles himself into trouble far too often. On the plus side, he made some huge plays, especially the prayer of a 3 he shot off balance to beat the shot clock. I wish he saw himself as more of a point guard than a shooter.

Bigger picture is it is great to see this rivalry return to where it should be. It was intense, the outcome was in doubt the entire time, and it was a little chippy….made for one of the classics in this series.

consistency will continue to be key for this team moving forward there ability to play defense at a high level will keep them in every game they play this year and if they make it to March they could sneak up on someone , BUT no doubt there has been a culture shift under Mike Woodson IU has maybe not ever had even under Coach Knight its clear this man loves and cares about his players and its beautiful to see .

Biggest question you have a talented but struggling UM team coming to town on Sunday and have winnable home and road games for the next 2.5 weeks . can you refocus and make a run that will cement your resume for March ?

  4. 12 games into a new era with a retooled roster the Sycamores stand a 6-6 (bad loss to ball state) being the only black mark . Had a nice win by 30+ over ODU on a neutral court and a tough road loss by 12 to conference favorite Loyola-Chi . Home game vs Coppin State (1-14) will bring the Sycamores to a likely 7-6 recorded heading into conference play by comparison the last regular normal season Lansing had arguably his most talented roster since his 1 tourney team and entered the conference campaign at 7-4 would finish (18-12). Things off to a positive start in Terre Haute ?

  5. Here we go my hopes are up seen good things and things they need to improve on BUT I'm trying to temper my expectations however its just NOT in me as an IU fan. looking forward to seeing how the Big Ten season plays out

As far as the PG situation couldn't agree more but lets keep in mind X and Woody are both still in a feeling out process. I do wonder what Lander is doing that Woody doesn't like ? Its pretty clear there is something that he HAS to improve on in practice before Woodson will up his mins despite the fact that he played Big mins and his best basketball in the St Johns win and Syracuse loss

Ready to watch vs Notre Dame in the "Archie Miller Crossroads classic" LOL

Let's say the HCC goes ahead and approves both CG & Carmel...and they decide to play a 9 game closed schedule.

How will the MIC programs schedule non-conference games? They'll need 4 non-con games to fill up their schedules. This seems like it'd be a major headache for these 6 programs.

Do they go after DAC schools, Penn, P/Ps, out of state opponents?

For the HCC you could see 2 five team divisions 4 weeks of your division , 2 non con games ,  2 rotating cross division games and then a conference championship week 9 . 1 plays 1 , 2 plays 2 , so on and so forth . Similar to what the Hoosier Conference does.

This would help the 6 MIC schools keep non conference games with HCC schools

I know this phrase “culturally realigned” is a loaded one BUT for schools who have fairly serious numbers of kids in sports outside of football, basketball and baseball (and I’m not sure about baseball in the MIC) there is a problem scheduling the remaining MIC schools for sports.

I realize, for example, that lacrosse and rugby aren’t even IHSAA sports but Chatard and Cathedral have a LOT of kids playing these sports…many of them football players, btw.  Let alone the IHSAA sports like golf, tennis, etc.  I realize NC likely has all of these (and is competitive) but what about the remaining MIC schools?

Even then, simply “having” the sport doesn’t mean it’s competitive.  If you are a great tennis player you likely want competitive matches most of the year for your own self-improvement if nothing else.  Years ago, I had kids that played football and lacrosse.  One was an All-State player in both but his first love was lacrosse.  Despite my love for football, I would not have wanted him to play in the new MIC because of its lack of lacrosse…at least competitive lacrosse.

BTW, I can see something like this being a problem for a school like Avon to join.

Just to play Devils Advocate your saying a 16 year old Tennis Player at Avon and his parents would rather him be the 8th best Men's single player competing in the HCC than a Conference Champion in the MIC?

But Pike and BD can barely field a boys tennis team.  Thats the problem with The MIC.

You save even more money for a cancellation which leads to making tennis a club sport outside of school which is better (mindset of most Superintendents in the state) 🤣 JK. In all seriousness Pros and Cons for sure.

Agreed but by kicking out CG and Carmel (despite the fact they were headed out the door - apparently regardless whether they had a firm HCC deal) the MIC gets all the bad PR in this.

I am still amazed that anyone with even a tinge of PR savvy allowed such a letter to be drafted, let alone released.  It’s as if petty children were running these remaining MIC schools.

To me the real question is who really wants to join the MIC at this point….and why?  What do they have to offer?  It must be pretty bad if CG and Carmel were leaving regardless and didn’t even have a firm deal.

6 years ago I would have laughed at myself BUT Avon makes all the sense in the world. I think across the board in all sports they would end up being in the top half of the MIC . Travel is no issue , and they can keep their rivalry in tact with Brownsburg. I think  Avon, Ben Davis , WC, LN , and LC  would all stand a chance at a title next fall in football not many conferences can say they have a legitimate 5 team race .

Offensively those are better numbers than Jack Kiser had in both of his 15-0 seasons.

the only thing that really stops the chance of him winning is that kiser didn’t come off the field and had like 7 INTs + 6 forced fumbles…..plus was the kicker and punter…..and he did it 2 years in a row going 30-0.

Clay should be in consideration but it’s more about fighting for finishing 3rd in voting.  Which there is nothing wrong with and it still would be a great achievement considering he is at a 1A school

Clay did punt and return kicks for Lutheran, you mentioned career stats should count towards the award . Clay played Safety/WR till this year when he was moved to QB .

he also has 946 career rec yards with 12 TDs

Also 108 career tackles with 13 INTS

I am inclined to agree with you though I do think its a 2 man race (Curry and Allen) but it might be a lot closer than most people think this year between 4 or 5 different guys

For me, it is between 3 players:

    Brady Allen- Gibson Southern

    Caden Curry- Center Grove

    Micah Hauser- Westfield

These are the clear cut favorites and would be fine if any one of them win. They put on performances all year long and put on shows at the State Finals this weekend.

I think you put Montasi Clay from Lutheran in that convo as well he plays for the the only 1A school in the toughest small schools conference in the state (ICC)

    2300 + Passing yards

    1800 + Rushing yards

    61 Total TDs

  13. Coach is also amazing to trade film with! Some guys especially the "Old School" ones can try to be sticklers (Which I don't get because with hudl and YouTube you can almost find any game from any team in the state 🙄

But Coach is always willing to help out a conference school and trades film back and forth willingly and easily made me gain a ton of respect for him and his program this year competing against him in the ICC

I agree, Tech has a phenomenal facility. Not sure it is an option to Cathedral anymore.

Just thought it was ironic for a Roncalli fan of all people to chime in. Roncalli dropped Cathedral after a few drubbings awhile back and now wants to dictate where Cathedral hosts a game?

Interesting seems like a lose / lose if I was Tech I would want a game there every weekend I wasn't at home. I'm sure logistics have something to do with it to which I'm clueless. Just seems like a waste .

Just be glad Roncalli has ducked Cathedral for the last decade and get over it.

The playing surface at Arlington is fine. It is a smaller venue but what other choice does Cathedral have? It's where they play their home games.

Tech is at Kokomo that week. Played there plenty of times in the past , I have 0 dog in this fight just saying I think a game of that magnitude deserves a little bit better and more accommodating stage to all involved.

Just moved to cincy this fall but been to the Pit multiple times with a college buddy who went to Elder. Skyline is either or love it or hate it, I’m hooked on it but what’s really better is the local ma and pa chili parlors around the city. If you ever get back to Elder, check out Price Hill Chili! The St. X game is one reason why I don’t fully hate online presale, game is at X this year so I am glad to be able to buy online.

Mt St Joe grad 2015 , made a few trips to Price Hill Chili just down the road They have some different things I enjoyed . Just never a fan of the sweet Chilli im sure my fellow Cincy classmates would say the same of Pork Tenderloins found around the state to each his own for sure !

Definitely have to go with Linton ribeyes, or if you ever get to Sheridan, you’ll smell the Bud Burgers on the grill from the parking lot. Best high school concession stand I’ve seen period is at Cincinnati Elder, The Pit, they’ve got goetta dogs and hot metts cooking up, and also a LaRosa’s pizza truck parked selling by the slice. Not to mention the coolest high school stadium I’ve ever seen; highly recommend making the drive when one of the Indy Catholics is playing there, or against one of their GCL South rivals (St. X, Moeller, La Salle).

4 years of college / living in Cincy and never developed a taste for it , id eat ANY chain or frozen pizza before touching LaRosa's . Same goes for Skyline in the Chili department . The Pit is an amazing place to watch a FB game on Friday if your going to the St. X game better take a half day from work to get in line in time to get a ticket and be prepared for standing room only.
